The CSU game showed us certain things. It showed us that our OL isn't turribul. It showed us that we have some weapons on offense, and that Connor Wood can be a pretty good QB for us. It showed some of us that CSU really sucks. It showed we need work on special teams, but that we also have a pretty good kicker and punter.

So, what will this game tell us?

If we win by 20+, are we setting up nicely for a run at bowl eligibility?
If we barely win, are we still looking at solving a lot of problems?
If we barely lose, have we taken a step back?
If we lose by 20+, was the CSU game an aberration?

Not asking for predictions on the outcome. I'm asking for what kind of lessons do you think we'll take from this game, based on how the game turns out.

If we barely beat them I think that shows more of an indication that we are heading in the right direction but still have a huge hill to climb
If we win by two or more scores I think that shows us that we truly have FBS/BCS level talent and that coaching is finally maximizing it.
If we lose, I think it shows how bad CSU is and how good UCA is and that we have a long way to go before we will be successful

Buffs win the game and it's not a 'nail biter' then we know our coaches have the players attention.
DII Danny could never really build off of any positives. One step forward then two or three steps back.
Win Saturday night and CU will have taken a small forward step after last weeks' huge step.

If we win by 20+, are we setting up nicely for a run at bowl eligibility? - Yes. Bowl game certainly a possibility.
If we barely win, are we still looking at solving a lot of problems? - Yes, but still a step forward.
If we barely lose, have we taken a step back? - No. So long as we see effort and competence we can be patient.
If we lose by 20+, was the CSU game an aberration? - Yes. Uphill climb and culture of team still a real problem. I assume this type of loss will happen only with poor effort.

If we win by 20+, are we setting up nicely for a run at bowl eligibility? Nope, only if we beat Fresno will this be true.
If we barely win, are we still looking at solving a lot of problems? Not necessarily--only if we continue to struggle with ST coverage or if we take a step back on defense or offense.
If we barely lose, have we taken a step back? Yep.
If we lose by 20+, was the CSU game an aberration? Yep.

This week, a loss by any score tells us that the psychology of this team still needs a ton of work since they wouldn't have handled some success & praise.

A win answers that question. A big win shows continued progress and also gives the coaches an opportunity to start building some depth with opportunities for the young pups to get extra game snaps.

Favored by 15+ with the Folsom home opener any loss is a step back and tells us that there is still much rebuilding to do.

Any win is another great next step for the team to build confidence and get energized to keep working harder each week.

Does a big win change the Oregon State game from the 75% no effin way to a 50% maybe?

Veering away from the original questions, but keeping with the intent:

    - it will give us a much better indicator of the speed of our defense

    - it will tell us if we should / should not be looking for a new special teams coach

    - we should get a different view of this staff's abilities to adjust in-game since our opponent will have seen us on film

    - it may give us an indication of interest from local players; how many attend and who

If we win by 20+, are we setting up nicely for a run at bowl eligibility? - Prolly not, but it probably will show that MM & Co have the ability to keep guys focused, which may bode well for later in the season
If we barely win, are we still looking at solving a lot of problems? - Yes, but that's probably the case anyway.
If we barely lose, have we taken a step back? - No, we just have to remind ourselves of how very BAD we were last year and remember that CSU is a terrible team.
If we lose by 20+, was the CSU game an aberration? - Yes and no. It would show us how very far we have to go, but it might also remind us how terrible CSU is. A good marker will also be if CSU gets crushed by Tulsa.

Win by 20+ gives us momentum towards the Fresno game.Thoughts about bowling might surface.
Win by 1 in a sloppy manner, hopefully its humbling and reinforces the need to never let up in practice/preparation.On the flip, win by 1 in a well executed battle, its a reminder every week only gets tougher going into conference play and reinforces the need to commit to getting better every day.
Lose by 20+ WTF went wrong!?Week 1 was likely an aberration.
Lose by 1 likely means we lost more than they won,if that makes any sense.

CSU really sucks under all the above scenarios.

No bowl game for this team, and we will be looking at solving problems all year, win or lose. Step back from where? We're still close to the bottom (CSU doesn't say a lot, except these kids can execute against a poor team, and the coaches are capable).

Again, which ST coach do you want replaced: The one whose players missed tackles, despite good coverages? Or the one whose players were responsible for 15 points, essentially the margin of victory? Uh, hint...........Same guy!

Just stop the Debby/Nancy BS on Neinas because of his name....gets old......no, got old----real quick.

I can live with the ST issues when we play so well in the other two phases. One thing I want to point out-----Oregon State became a very winnable game the minute they lost to EWU. That's the kind of loss that can ruin a football team's season. As far as this game, I think a win by any margin is a great sign. Tomorrow is the classic trap game. We played so well against little brother. In addition, we've got a team coming in next week who handed us probably the most embarrassing loss in the history of the program last year. I think a win tomorrow would show us we're a very well coached team.....and I don't see MM allowing these kids to "eat the cheese" or whatever goofy line he used earlier in the week. A loss? That just shows us how far we still have to go.

UCA has some very athletic players (QB among others)! Lot can happen in any game! "Just win, sing the anthem, and on to the next challenge." Too early to judge where we are in total... But I really like what's going on per this team and program!

    Keep grinding forward Buffs!

I don't give a damn what his name is. If the coverage team doesn't break down and come under control early enough to be able to react and tackle, that's on the coach. If the opponent shows different schemes and you're not prepared, it's on the coach.

I will give credit where credit is due -- the staff realized that something needed to change, hence the squib kicks and rugby style punts. Kudos for making an in-game adjustment, something we haven't seen for a while.

I want to see effective changes in kick coverage this week.

Win tomorrow, find a way to beat Fresno, and then bowl talk will abound.

Til then... well just win tomorrow.

The truth is any bad FBS team has at minimum 20 to 25 players that an FSC team didn't bother recruiting because there was no way in hell they even opened the letter, or took the phone calls. CU and specifically Embree's staff did one thing positive, they recruited bona fide D-1 talent. That brings us to the coaching, after Barney was fired obviously the FCS teams we lost to out classed us there. I said last week better talent combined with good coaching = WINS. CU 1-50 has superior players, not a guess here, fact. With Mac II we now have superior coaching, this wont be easy but CU's depth (yes I said that) over the lower classification will start to show itself in the second half. End result is CU wins by 2 touchdowns, were 2-0 and bring on Fresno.

It will show us how the players handle a liitle bit of success and how the coaches are able to focus them in on the next game.

If we want to compete with the big boys in Pac-10, we should win easily with at least 2+ touchdowns. I'd like to see us improving our running game/better pass rush.
