I got really pumped about news last October that Ted Turner was going to donate 20 buffaloes to the city of Boulder . What team across the country could have that type of a greeting to recruits on visits or fans driving in for game day?

But I've tried to find any updates since the beginning of December, when the City of Boulder said they needed to do studies figuring out the overall costs and environmental effects they'd have living out here, and can't find anything. I believe it all said it would take up to three months to figure it out, and here we are with no word at all.

This is as big a no brainer as I can think of for everyone, fan or not. Do any of you have insider updates on what's going on with this and when we'll get to see a real buffalo in Boulder?

Would be totally rad. If we can have a herd of buffalo in San Francisco, the City of Boulder should be able to find a way to house on there.

Still being studied by the city.

The city of Boulder would probably grind them all up to feed the homeless.

Heard the idea was shot down a couple months ago. Fears over buffaloes getting free and whatnot.

Might be the best argument for Boulderites. "look! The people in San Francisco are doing it!"

As a proud Boulderite, I find that statement offensive. We feed our homeless a cruelty-free diet of tofu, couscous, and locally-grown organic vegetables.

Man, we need to have a Ralphie housed in California (for California games), Arizona (for Utah games too), and somewhere in the Pacific Northwest for games against the NW schools. I'm sure the Pac-12 fans would love that not just CU fans.

Beat me too it. Homeless in Boulder eat only a vegan diet.

Edit: if Ted is donating us 20 buffaloes, there had better be a great ****ing reason to say no.

Seems ridiculous - Boulder environmentalists should want to restore the wildlife residents of the county. So a few Buffaloes run free in Boulder County.....it would be like Moose near Grand Lake!

Tear out the bricks on the Pearl St. Mall, replace it with natural grass. I've always hated it. Beware Naropa students!

The CU President's house used to be on the N side of 36, a little before Williams Village. I'd bet CU still owns that and other property on 36, where they could put the buffaloes.

Heheh, I was thinking about the Buffalo again yesterday and sent a letter to the Daily Camera writer that released the story in October. Here is what I got back:

    Tim,

Thanks for your note. The buffalo story is on our radar. I just checked with our reporter who covers Boulder city government, and he said he asked about it the other day and they think it'll be another 30 days.

    Thanks,

    Matt Sebastian, city editor

Not sure if 30 days until a decision is made or something else, but I think now would be a great time to prod your reps or make a push for this before they potentially shut it down...

Tax collections for 2011 ended up being much higher than the city had expected. Boulder's flush. Good time to be trying for approval on this.

If Boulder doesn't want 'em, we can put 'em in my back yard. It'll piss the dogs off, but, what the hell?

That's funny UBL. Since the beginning, I've heard the James McMurtry song in my head every time. It's a ****ing amazing song, and fits really well here (though I'm more familiar with the Live Aught Three version).

There's the land for CU-Boulder South, which is South of the on-ramp to 36 from Foothills Parkway. There's a random building with a sign on it that reads "CU-Boulder South/Serving the needs of future students." It's in the flood plain, which is why CU has never developed it (city won't let them).

Can Buffalo swim? I feel like I should know the answer to that already.

If you've never seen a Buffalo swim, you will in 2012!
