Who had a better college career: Alex Henery or Mason Crosby?

A lot comes down to whether you place more value on Crosby's kickoffs or Henery's punts.

They're both great and I'll always be partial to Crosby at least partly because of my biases. I'll leave it at that.

Stats are only as good as the opportunities to earn them. Mason was a lock from inside 45 and had the best long leg I ever saw from a college kicker. He was also a better kick-off guy. Henery is very good at KOs but Mason would get touchbacks kicking against the wind. He was also very good at placing kickoffs away from the dangerous returners.

Henery is very good and I would be happy with either one of them but as a pure college placekicker I would take Mason.

Henery doens't kick off at all. Kunalic does. Henery, however, does punt.

Crosby=longest FG at sea level

Both are good, Henery is a little pencil dick though. He annoys me. Crosby is a mean texan!:smile2:

Damn it Unleash, here you go again. How the hell do you know anything about Alex Henery? You call him a "pencil dick" and probably haven't even met him or heard him in an interview.

He is a great kid with a temperament any Mom or Dad would want their daughter to bring home for supper.

Now don't give me any **** as to what I know about him. I have met him, he is acquainted with my son who had classes with Alex and they spent time together playing inter mural (out of football season) sports together.

Next time think before you spout off and put your nonsense into print.

Good luck in the 12-Pac! Oh, and I wish the Buffs luck in their bowl game this year.................come to think of it, there is no bowl game for the Buffs.

**** off for the final time....

Henery and crosby were both great kickers. Henery was also a great punter, crosby on kickoffs. There, both are great.

Both of these guys are great at what they do. They definately spotlight the kicker and how important they can be in the game. They've helped show that they aren't just there to kick extra points. Henery's only drawback is since he doesn't kickoff and Kunalic does instead, the last I remember he was average at kickoffs. He didn't have nearly as many touchbacks as Kunalic has had. Now that was two years ago and it's from memory, but I distinctly remember Husker fans talking Kunalic up for the power in his leg. Crosby is a helluva a kicker and its been shown so far in his professional career. I think the stats could be more comparable once Henery goes to the NFL. Then you could compare their first 3 years or whatever and get some answers. We're gonna miss Henery next season.........

Both players make you realize how awesome it is to have a great kicker. Seriously. We win that game at NU if not for that 57 prayer back in 08. Meanwhile, our kicker hits so many goalposts during his tenure I hope our next coach emphasizes good punting and kicking. So many games won and lost.

I also have footage of Mason attempting a 70 yard fg. He had the distance, but missed it by about 3 feet. ****ing incredible if you think about the margin of error from 70 yards out. A millimeter here or there and it would have gone in or been wide right.

And not to discredit Mason, but he did kick off was at the 35 when he was here and now it's at the 30. Harder to kick out of the zone. Now, don't get me wrong, we all used to go nuts in the student section when he would kick it through the uprights on kickoffs. Sooooo badass. Miss him for sure.

From Mason's wikipedia page:

During his senior season at Colorado, Mason Crosby became the first player in Big 12 Conference history to be named player of the week eight times.[3] In late 2006, he also became Colorado's all-time leading scorer, with 308 career points. The previous record holder was Eric Bieniemy (1987–1990) with 254.

While enrolled at Colorado, Crosby displayed extraordinary leg strength, making a school record 60-yard field goal against Iowa State in 2004. Crosby’s 58-yard field goal against Miami in 2005 was the longest ever kicked in NCAA Division I-A football at sea-level without a tee.[4] In all, Crosby holds 31 school records. Throughout his Colorado career, Crosby retained his accuracy, connecting on 66 of 88 field goals in total, and 30 of 34 inside 40-yards.[2]

During college, Crosby developed a reputation for kicking in the clutch, making 12 of 13 field goals in the fourth quarter, and a perfect 10-10 in the final 8½ minutes of games. This bent was most evident when Crosby played rival Colorado State University, against which Crosby made kicks of 55 (2004), 48, and 47 yards (2005) in consecutive years to win the Rocky Mountain Showdown.

Crosby also served as the Buffs' kickoff specialist, where his knack for forcing touchbacks after touchdowns made him a fan favorite. Overall, 138 of Crosby's 203 career kickoffs were touchbacks, including an 87-yard kickoff touchback from the 20-yard-line against Iowa State in 2004.[2]

His stats are better than Crosby's.

Come on, proove it. I want to see the stats for a good comparison between Crosby and Henery. Otherwise go back into your cave and drink beer.

I can't tell if you're serious here, Surveyor. Daaah said the nebraska kicker had better stats and you're demanding evidence?

As far as I'm concerned, Alferd has the final say in this matter. Whomever he says is better, I'll agree with. The man has made a life of studying kickers and punters.

Anybody associated with Nebraska football is a pencil dick. Ohio state fans are calling you to their boards.

No contest.

O.K. Walrus, you brought me down to earth. Unleash got way overboard by calling a kid a "pencil dick" and I fell into it. My bad.

I know Crosby is a stud kicker and Buff fans should be proud he is a former player. We sometimes need to tone down the insults and name calling, and even trashing players. No matter what team is their favorite team.

I also don't know Alferd as you do, but if you say he is "the man" regarding kickers, that's good enough for me.

Have a good one.

Still got to end it with: Good luck in the 12-Pac!

Henery has been a great money kicker for Nebraska, Crosby has the cannon though, both have been incredible weapons for their teams.

This is simple. If I had to choose between the two, I would take Crosby every day of the week and twice on Sunday...where he happens to be doing very well right now by the way. End of discussion. Thanks for playing all.

I tell you what Mr. Buff Fan, anybody who starts a thread like this on our board needs to have his loyalty questioned.

I'm sorry, I didn't know objectivity, honesty and reality weren't allowed....

and I wasn't bashing Crosby at all...he is one of the best kickers the sport has ever seen....I just wanted to know who people thought was better.

no need to call my fandom to the carpet....it isn't as if I said something like "screw mac".....

Calling out one of the all-time Buff greats is out of line, take this **** to Fuskerpedophelia

On being a pure placekicker, it's gotta be Crosby, he was great. If you take into account how good Henery is as both a punter and a kicker, then it's a tougher decision.
If I had to pick a guy to take & make a FG (and handle kickoffs), without a doubt I go with Crosby. If I want to skimp on scholarships, I would go with Henery.

How was I calling him out exactly?

IMO, this is akin to trying to compare an all-time great to anybody else. You ever hear anybody compare Jim Brown to ANY other RB; Emmit Smith, Walter Payton, OJ Simpson - of course not. My feeling is that we as Buffs do not draw comparisons of our all-time greats to other players, ESPECIALLY fuskers.

Ruff has always been especially cozy with Fuskers over on pedophelia. Not sure if you are really a Buff at all, especially given threads like this.

Oh please. I'm not cozy at all. I'm done posting over once there my membership runs out this year. I've been a member over there for several reasons....

A) to defend the Buffs
B) Having gone to a small college in NE and having lived out there for almost 8 years I follow, but always root against the Huskers
C) Since my college friends are Husker fans, I like to keep up with their squad so I can talk football with them and not have them BS me and I become a "knowledgeable fan"

I'm a BUFF fan through and through and those who question it or get pissy for comparing kickers from the two schools need to get a life and get over it....seriously...lame

Just shows a disregard for Buff traditions.
