This is the most important thing to me. For the average fan, the biggest problem with our position now is that CU is rarely on a common channel. With this new conference, will the average Joe living on the front range be able to turn on one of the common channels like ABC/CBS/FOX/NBC on a Saturday afternoon and be fed Buff Football? I know everyone says we were on TV a lot last year but to me it doesnt count unless it is on a common channel in the Denver area. There should be no reason why every CU football game isn't shown locally on a standard channel that everyone gets with antenna or basic cable/dish.

To me, this is how a school develops and keeps a following. If we are playing ASU or WSU and the UT/USC game is on TV in the Denver area over a CU game, CU as a school has lost.

Probably not a common channel, rather as a choice of one of several games shown on a package of all 16 conference teams playing every week on a conference network.

If a Pac-16 network works like the Big 10 Network, it won't replace the games that would be televised otherwise. It would just ensure that all the games are available somewhere. I'm sure the ABC tie in would continue, that's been the Pac-10s main outlet for big games. And I would expect they'd keep some games on some Fox regionals, just as they have been in the past. That's probably where you'd find some buff games - since we're sadly unlikely to push for major ABC appearances at this point. But for games that don't get picked up in the cable package, there will be a Pac-10 network option added, if you want to pay for it.

    CBS does SEC games
    NBC does Notre Dame games
ABC does Big XII & Pac-10
Over-the-air Fox doesn't broadcast any college football, except BCS games

I'd say the chances aren't any higher than they are now.

CU hasn't been on TV as much due to the stink that Dan Hawkins put on the football team. If CU starts winning again, the Buffs should be on TV more often.

I think I saw 5 or 6 Buffs games on DirecTVs basic package last season in Denver, aside from the Kansas and Wyoming games that we went to.

Well this sucks then. Back in the day all the CU games were all on TV in Denver if I remember correctly. I can continue to see many locals drift away and newbies not ever care if this is what will continue. Hell, I am a die hard and I have a hard enough time finding the games on channel six hundred something and hoping my satellite provider carries that channel.

Well, at least down here, your statement is (unbelievably) false. I was able to view all but two games last year. Same with the year before.

The CU broadcasts on Denver stations died when the Big XII started. Part of the conference TV deal was that schools couldn't have their own broadcasts. I assume the Pac-16 would have a similar deal, although it would kick ass if local broadcasts could come back...

And, by the way, every time I look at my avatar I feel a sense of calm, as well as a feeling that we are about to win the national championship that he talked about when he was first hired. All is right in the world!

Something that everyone gets from Pueblo to FOCO wether you have a coat hangar attached to your TV or the basic cable/satellite package. If CU wants the locals to support this school they need to make sure locals know there is something out there they can follow. If not, then the only time they will pay attention is when another scandal hits or a coach is fired and costs too much money.

The Broncos are on that free common channel here locally, why can't CU be on it instead of another infomercial about a blender?

This is what I am talking about and to me is the most important thing. I would rather have those local broadcasts back and be in a lesser conference than to have 98% of the locals never see the team because they don't get that channel. If you don't have support at home, you don't have real support!

Well, this thread assumes that the "average Joe on the Front Range" has a TV.

Maybe I'm wrong, but in the 16 years I lived in Colorado, the only local games that drew alot of viewers where Bronco games. Everything else, including CU, CSU, and Air Force was an afterthought.

No, I think you are absolutely correct and that not being on TV locally just as the Broncos are, is a huge reason for this. Since the B12 started in the mid 90s less and less people are watching or even able to watch all the CU games on TV. When you have no idea what channel the game is on, and most weeks don't have the channel that they are on, you start to not watch the games. Once you stop watching the games and you combine that with losing like we have with Dan the past few years most people just don't care anymore and will be at best fair weather fans.
