TENNIS COMPETES ON FIRST DAY OF ITA REGIONAL
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – University of Colorado freshman Kyra Wojcik won her first collegiate tennis match with a straight set winner on day one of the 2014 USTA/ITA Mountain Regional Championships, Wednesday at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque.

CU is one of 20 schools competing at the regional tournament over the five-day event featuring a 128-player singles draw and 64-team doubles draw. A regional title is not the only thing that these teams will be battling for as the singles champion and doubles pair champions will also receive an automatic berth into the 2014 USTA/ITA National Indoor Champions being held Nov. 8-10 in Flushing, N.Y.

In singles action and in the Round of 128 women’s draw, Wojcik, a Goodyear, Ariz. native, defeated Laia Hernandez of Colorado State, 6-2, 6-4. It was Wojcik’s first fall tournament. She did not compete three weeks ago at the CU Invitational.
