MAKING RANK
In the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings released Nov. 9, 2011, Ohio State moved up to the No. 22 slot. The Buckeyes are led by junior Rachel Rohanna and freshman Kendall Prince, who are the No. 79 and 92 individuals in the country, respectfully. Of the 14 other teams competing at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge, all hail from the Top 50 of the rankings. The competitive tournament also posts nine Top 25 teams, including UCLA, the No. 1 squad in the nation.
THE FIELD
Of the 14 other teams competing, the Buckeyes have already faced and placed higher than Florida State, Michigan State, UC Davis and Wake Forest at least once during the 2011-12 season. In the individual standings, Duke's Lindy Duncan is the top individual in the country, while Arizona State's Giulia Molinaro sits in the No. 5 slot.
WEATHER FORECAST
High temperatures for the tournament will hover in the mid to high 60s, with lows in the mid 40s. Partly cloudy skies are predicted for each day of play and the only threat of rain is a 10 percent chance on Monday.
LOOK AT THE LINKS
The host of the 2012 Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge will be the historic Palos Verdes Golf Club in Palos Verdes, Calif. Built in 1924, the par 71, 5,912-yard course boasts a course rating of 70.4 and a slope of 131. Designed by architects George C. Thomas, Jr. and William Bell, the course was built to attract residents to the Palos Verdes area. In 2007, a two-year renovation of the clubhouse was completed.
COLLEGE AM
Kicking off the Northrop Grumman will be a College-Am tournament Sunday. The event, which serves as a preview of the course, will pair competing athletes with members of the public.

AYE, AYE CAPTAIN
Ohio State has elected junior Amy Meier as its captain for the 2011-12 season. Meier, from Rochester Hills, Mich., currently posts a 75.58 stroke average after 12 rounds of play. Her best finish this season came at the Lady Northern Invitational (Oct. 10-11) where she tied for eighth.
For her performance on the course, Meier was also named the Golf Association of Michigan Women's Player of the Year. She was the top point-scored among all women golfers in the state.
NEW BUCKEYES
The Ohio State women's golf team is pleased to welcome Kendall Prince, Jan Chanpalangsri, Sheridan Balyeat and Claudia Lim to its roster for the 2011-12 season.
Prince is from Lake Oswego, Ore., where she attended Lakeridge High School. She was a three time first-team all-state and first-team all-league selection as well as a Future Collegians World Tour (FCWT) First Team All-American in 2010. Prince was the FCWT Co-Player of the Year for the West Region in 2010 after winning four of five tournaments that season. She also picked up her first AJGA win in Wenatchee, Wash., after rounds of 71-73-72 to win by three strokes.
At Lakeridge High School, Prince was undefeated during the 2010 regular season to earn the Three Rivers League Player of the Year award. She was district champion that year, never shot over par the entire season and was runner-up in the Oregon state championship after a third-place finish in 2009. Lakeridge finished third as a team in 2010 and second in 2009. Prince has earned a total of eight letters in high school while also competing in soccer and basketball.
Chanpalangsri is originally from Bangkok, Thailand, but attended St. Andrew's School in Boca Raton, Fla. She fired rounds of 68-69 to claim the 2010 Florida State High School title. Chanpalangsri also had two runner-up finishes during AJGA action in 2010, taking second at the Golf Pride Junior Classic and at the Accusport Championship after closing with a 68.
From Lima, Ohio, Balyeat was named the 2010 Lima Junior Golf Association Player of the Year. While attending Shawnee High School, she helped the Indians to three league crowns and a third-place finish at the state tournament in 2011. For her efforts, Balyeat was a first-team all-district selection in 2009 and '10.
Lim, who joins the Buckeyes from Bella Vista, Australia, attended Gilroy Catholic College in Sydney. Lim won the 2011 South Africa Junior Masters and was the Champions Trophy junior champion in 2010.
COACHES CORNER
The 2011-12 season marks the 21st year the Buckeyes are led by head coach Therese Hession. A former LPGA professional, Hession has molded the Ohio State golf program into one with a strong tradition of excellence. In her tenure, she has led the Buckeyes to seven Big Ten championships, 12 NCAA championship appearances and 17-consecutive NCAA regional appearances. Hession is an NGCA Hall of Famer and six-time Big Ten Coach of the Year.
