Women's Lacrosse news- Pac 12 conference starting in 2018, and a couple other general items

This news is actually over 6 months old, but can't see where I or anyone else had mentioned it already or not. So, I wanted to at this point note that the Pac 12 will begin its own women's lacrosse league for the 2018 season, which is when ASU has announced it will begin fielding a D1 team. This which will bring the number of Pac schools having the sport to the magic number of 6, which is the minimum # of teams needed for a conference tournament and NCAA auto-bid. For those who haven't follow lacrosse too closely, the 6 Pac teams are/ will be the Buffs, ASU, USC, Stanford, Cal, and Oregon.
(The 1st article (written last October) I could easily find about the newest Pac conference league is at http://laxmagazine.com/college_wome...5_pac_12_adds_womens_lacrosse_for_2018_season .)

Especially with the MPSF now having even more issues (See below re DU), It will be interesting to see if the Pac also allows some other MPSF teams in as lacrosse-only members. (For example, I know the San Diego State already competes in the Pac for Men's Soccer, although it looks like they are the needed 6th team in that sport, so it might be a different situation. In 2018, as it stands now, the remaining MPSF teams are SDSU, UC Davis, St. Marys and Fresno State.)

A couple other women lacrosse- related stories. (Props to the Laxpower.com forum (http://network.laxpower.com/laxforum/viewforum.php?f=2) for being my initial source for these.)-

Assume at least partly because of the Pac teams leaving the MPSF, DU has just announced they'll be switching to the Big East effective next season (http://www.denverpioneers.com/sports/w-lacros/spec-rel/050316aaa.html) . The Big East is where their men already play, so assume it was a natural move with the MPSF losing all the (generally stronger) Pac teams.

HOPEFULLY, the Buffs and Pioneers will still play each other EVERY year, as it's been a great and fun rivalry so far. (Was kind of hoping DU might join the Pac for lacrosse, but I have no idea what Pac rules or precedent is for allow non-Pac colleges into the conference for only one sport.)

(2) Assume not a big deal to the Buffs, but after having the same coach for the last 12 years, looks like the Ducks are in the market for a new one after theirs stepped down yesterday. (http://www.goducks.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=500&ATCLID=210928801)

This is great news.

With all but 1 player returning next season, our WLAX team is well positioned to win the first Pac-12 Championship.

It's 2018 when the Pac starts, so that might (???) be a rebuilding year with the big inaugural class graduating after next season. However, the Buffs have been getting some great production from other classes***, so hopefully they'll stabilize at a HIGH level quickly. (***For example, this year's leading scorer Darby Kiernan, #3 point producer Carly Cox and 1st Team All-MPSF defender Sarah Brown will be seniors in 2018. Also, last season's #3 goal scorer, Blair Sisk, who was out all this season with a leg injury of some sort, will be either a junior or senior in 2018.)

Before I forget, I wasn't sure when the NCAA Championship selection was, so looked it up. Although from what little I know it doesn't sound too promising for the Buffs this year, the (video stream) selection show is scheduled for 7:00 PM MT tomorrow evening, and will be available through http://www.ncaa.com/liveschedule/2016/05/08 . Once selection is announced, I assume there will also be an article quickly out at ncaa.com, and a bracket populated with the selected teams and match-ups, both of which I assume will be available through http://www.ncaa.com/championships/lacrosse-women/d1 .

So, as thought likely, Buffs weren't selected to the NCAA tournament. Still a great season, and they should be a force to be reckoned with next year with a strong senior class, augmented by some great freshmen (hopefully), sophomores and juniors!
