they were giving away tickets this morning on 950 the Fan. I guess this is one reason why Invesco wasn't sold out last Saturday.

Honestly, it saddens me more than anything. Why Colorado collegiate athletics arent more supported by the public really is mind-boggling.
Ever since the late-90's it seems like the fans in Colorado have become more apathetic towards college football. Even at CU we've seen some major dropoff in attendance after the peak during the McCartney era.
Is it all the damn Californians moving in who just dont give a **** about Colorado sports or is it the fact that so many alumni from out of state just dont come back to spend their time supporting their alma mater that makes things look so bad for attendance? Ugh

I think it's a combination of factors. Neither CU nor CSU have been particularly good the last couple years. CU never, until recently, cultivated a connection between alumni, students, community and the football team. I believe that's starting to change with Mike Bohn. But it takes time. He has a huge task ahead of him and he's taking it on little by little. This is a great year to be a CU season ticket holder (and we, as our own little community here at allbuffs.com IS a a season ticket holder, btw). With games against CSU, Fla State, Oklahoma and *ebraska, it's hard to find a better home lineup. I fully expect to have several sellouts this year.

What a joke, can't fill-up that Jeffco Stadium North for a top 10 team? Maybe they'll be shamed into buying some more tix, not that I give a ****.

Not to mention-- the tickets are EXPENSIVE AS HELL!!!

Even student tickets are expensive these days.

The entire season's worth of tickets were $10 when I was in school. Granted, that was almost 20 years ago, but still!

Regular tickets to the games now are what, $50 a piece? So to buy tickets for a family of four is $200! I don't know about you, but I don't generally have $200 to spend on a 3 hour football game, especially when I can watch it at home for free.

Buff student football season ticket is $100, which is a screaming bargain in my opinion.

I agree with Sacky I think that the school has really done a poor job connecting with alumni in general and especially for athletics, the out of state thing also factors in if I lived in CO I would hold season tickets ad go to most games, hell I do here for UCLA.

I agree, but is it still the case that they limit the number of student tickets I remember a number of people not getting them my freshman year.

Why would Ram fan go? Their super bowl and season are over. All this talk about getting ready for the mtn. weenie division is shown to be the farce it is when they can't sell out a top ten opponent game.

They do cap student tickets, not sure what the allotment is each year.

    CSU-here's hoping

I have no ill-will towards CSU.

After reading the article in teh Post today about their lack of ticket buyers in Ft. Collins, I sincerely hope that they can get some of their fans back.

They'er playing a huge game this weekend, and they can't sell out their stadium. What a sad state of affairs.

Her'es to hoping that they can sell out the stadium adn get their season tix sales up. I honestly hope they pull out the upset over Cal, but I'm not betting .05 on that game.

    Re: CSU-here's hoping

as far as the great CSU fans are concerned, they play a ONE GAME season.....you hear them on the radio in the week leading up to the CU game...ram this...ram that....the sports talk show hosts have their annual ram-a-thon love fest.....and then POOF...win or lose the RMS and its as if they have disappeared....sad (kind of) but true.

The CSU media lovefest is always rolling; was listening (briefly) to Clough yesterday who was proclaiming a case could be made that the lammies should be 8-1 against the Buffs in the past nine games. No wonder I don't listen to sports radio anymore.

CU still has 4,500 tickets remaining for the FSU game. You'd think that game would sell out:huh:

That's pathetic. Hopefully, that number drops dramatically over the next week and a half. Hell, if I'm still up in Colorado then, I'll make my way up to Boulder with a few others.

Well before we judge let's see how attendance is at Folsom for the Florida State game. We'll have at least 45k there. I expect the Okie and fusker games to be sold out, or at least over 50,000. If things are going well then the Mizzou game will be a big game, and lets hope we have close to a sell out for that.

    Re: CSU-here's hoping

last week, scott hastings was rambling on about how schools such as arkansas (his alma mater), KANSAS and CSU have such great gameday atmospheres and CU has so many empty seats and disinterest....i wanted to crawl through the radio and punch all 3 of his chins.....of course al wasn't on that day to defend CU....he was giving a pep talk to the buffs.

Just out of curiosity, I went over to RamNation, there is a recognition of the lack of ticket sales and Natalie Meisler's article about the lack of ticket sales.

One thread even has lengthy analysis of why JiffyLube should hang it up after this year. Many posters agree, although they consider Sonny just a rung beneath the Apostle Peter. Sad times in goatland, I think that last loss really took it out of them.

Bottom line is, gotta win games to fill the stands around here. Sucks, but its the truth. You would think with the number of alums both CU and CSU have in the area both stadiums would be sold out for every game.

    Re: CSU-here's hoping

It's funny, cause I remember in an earlier thread we were discussing with the Ram fans here about who has teh better fans. One guy said how a radio show stated that CSU was teh flagship college in Colorado...

Isn't it CU that keeps selling out their stadium? CSU isn't even selling it out for a game against the #10 team in the nation...pathetic.

This gets back to the Universities connecting with their students and alumni at a very early stage. You have to develop a passion for the school once the kids step foot on campus. CU has done a horrible job of this, but it is changing. You can tell there's a difference in the attitude towards CU athletics. I don't know what CSU is doing to change things around. In any event, this transformation doesn't take place overnight. It's a long process - 10 years or longer. But once done, it feeds on itself and is easy to keep going. Look at places like Alabama, where their football team has been decidedly average the last 10 years or so. Their fan base is ingraned in Tide Football. LSU, until the last few years, was also pretty average. But they never had any problems filling their stadium, even when their team went 5-6. That CAN happen here, but it takes a commitment from the University to ingrane a sense of pride and commitment to the university after the students have left campus.

    Re: CSU-here's hoping

I really think, for some reason, all the local infotainers have been told to pump CSU. That is the only reason I can come up with for the goat lovefest. It would be one thing if they were rational about it. But the stuff they are saying, like Clough allegeing CSU could be 8-1 is ridiculous.

    Re: CSU-here's hoping

Even in a 2-10 season, CU filled Folsom to 86% of capacity last season, on average. CSU was at just over 70% of capacity for the season last year.

While CU's attendance should be better, sheep fans have no room to talk. They drew just 24k per game last year. CU was over 46k per game.

FSU probably won't sell out, but will be very close (within 1-2k, I would wager), and they're not even ranked. CSU will still have several thousand left for Cal. There will only be 30k there to watch a top 10 team. But that won't stop them from talking trash about CU every chance they get.

Thats all very true. CSU has started focusing on kids, case in point was (err, was) letting them on the field for the spring game, and this new "Ram Town" venture. Now they just need to do a better job of getting the alumni involved
