I'm thinking of picking up either a xbone or ps4 soon. Is there any reason to consider this model if I don't have a 4k TV and don't watch movies?

It has some color enhancements that future games can take advantage of. Much smaller console as well.... but other then that... probably not.

Unless there are also general performance enhancements. My xbox one is sluggish as hell with lots of the apps.

Wait for Scorpion next fall unless you are in a position that this is the best way to deliver 4k content to your 4k TV.

Considering a the Samsung UBD-K8500 4K HDR Blu-Ray player is over $300 at best buy, the XBox One S seems like a good deal.

That would be the perfect reason to get one.

how can the updated console still be laggy? Glad I'm apparently over video games.

My guess is crappy app optimization. I don't notice anything in the games themselves, but the UI has become laggy and I think a lot of the apps just aren't optimized for the X1 and the developers don't devote much time beyond making them work (and even that doesn't happen all the time).

If you are anything like me, you will drop $50-$150 a year on new games, telling yourself, "This, this will be the one that gets me back in to enjoying video games - I"m buying it!" You may never even fire up said game upon receipt, and if you do, you will spend maybe 30 minutes on it never to return.

That really surprising me that is happening on the Xbox. I would assume it is just an extension of Windows OS.

Apps probably neglected from the patches. PS4 has almost all my streaming apps but they are all lacking, I still use my Roku. The only thing is PlayStation Vue. The UI really sucks on Roku and rocks on PS4.

I hadn't caught Roku now has a Vue channel. Get that UI tuned up, get the Pac 12 network, and I am pulling the plug.
