If true, Hello PS4 (in about a year)... or maybe I will return to PC gaming...

Serious question. Why is the always on thing such a deal breaker for folks? When I use my current xbox it is always connected to the internet.

It's just a stupid thing to require. It's been a terrible idea in Sim City and Diablo and I don't see it working for the Xbox. They're gonna lose a lot of business.

servers go down. internet goes down. **** happens. when that happens, I don't want my xbox to turn into a really expensive brick.

not to mention, I am liking what I am hearing about the Ps4. Sounds like Sony "gets it" finally. Not to mention they are the only ones with good exclusive games that we know about.

There are rumors that Microsoft is going to ignore Japan with this release too. That would be really dumb.

xbox did terrible in Japan. They sold 1.5 million units there, compared to 11.5 million from the wii and 6.3 from the playstation.

only reason to have a console is for exclusive games these days. The advance of technology is really starting to blur the lines between gaming console and desktop/media center. And if you like their controller. I don't love the dual shock, but it does the job.

Btw, ignoring japan would be a death knell. I effing love RPGs, and so do the japanese.

The technology is starting to merge, but the prices are pretty far apart.

I guess I don't understand. If they aren't making money doing it, then why should they sell in Japan?

When it comes to exclusives and things that are console specific why would any game company make an exclusive for Microsoft when it wouldn't be sold in one of the most video game loving countries?

But a console gaming system is markedly cheaper than a gaming pc. Also, I don't see an allbuffs pc ncaa football league.

not really. not anymore. for 500$ you can build a gaming PC that should last quite a while. Not to mention you get a huge catalog of games that are markedly cheaper (Steam sale FTW).

as for the league... plenty of things like that online. The one area I'm pretty PC gaming loses at is sport gaming... for now.

Totally agree on ignoring Japan. It's like Microsoft is already declaring defeat in Japan without even trying.

While I love PC Gaming, I still love the draw of a "popcorn" console game. Meaning, I love picking up a quality console game (Tomb Raider, God of War) and plopping down in my easy chair in front of my HDTV with my controller just like I'm about to watch a movie with popcorn.

I know that PC games can easily be connected to an HD TV, but the keyboard thing really isn't the same.

As for always on internet connection, Microsoft is pulling a Sony from the PS3, XBOX 360 console release days when Sony didn't listen to their customers and released the PS3 as they felt it should be. It took them a long time to start making up lost ground.

As a consumer, I don't want "always on" as a requirement of my ability to play single player games. Microsoft is going to learn the hard way that you don't piss off gamers. I'll be getting the PS4 at launch, but very unlikely to pick up the 720.

So, I was talking to a family member who is very high up at MS this past weekend. She was cagey about the whole topic, but she didn't seem to think that the xbox would be non-functional without the internet. She expected games to to continue to work offline.

She isn't in the game division however (Bing) - so TIFWIW

This. I've had a couple of ****** wireless routers in the past that I had to reset/power on every day as they would freeze. This kind of **** would really screw with the gaming, especially when if only a 3 minute internet disconnection is allowed.

Xbox 720 to be "always on" DRM requiring internet - coming in November

The 720 is supposed to be the total entertainment system. I've heard a full deal with Netflix, Hulu, and Internet explorer is complete. So I can see why they are pulling out from Japan's market. Also rumor is games will be bought over the Internet and stored on a cloud.

I really hope you are right... competition is good. and Always On DRM will lead the xbox to doom.

Wow so building a htpc is comparable to buying a system off the shelf.

the next generation of iphones will be more powerful than your xbox 360. and no, its not the same, but if you are willing to deal with the negatives, it's not bad. Especially since those negatives are disappearing as tech improves.

and ya, it is pretty easy to build a system if you know what you are doing. Not for everyone, to be sure.

The current iPhone is nowhere the 360. Maybe the iPhone 8. The gap is just to big now and batteries are holding the phones back and will continue to do so.

care to say anything else wrong?

battery power is a limitation on how long the power can be used, not how powerful those devices can be.

one one side, we have tante, random internet poster of an unknown level of intelligence, training, and knowledge. On the other, we have a senior VP for Nvidia, the leader in graphics technology.

Show me some proof, as you are losing the credibility battle.
