The practice bubble thread got me thinking, what's you wishlist for facilities? I've listed a few based on what I've seen mentioned & discussed. My order of priority would be:

1 - indoor practice facility - would benefit recruiting & practices in the winter. This would seem to be something that could improve recruiting which should improve the W/L record, which should improve donations/fan excitement, which should improve funding for other projects.

2 - upgrade press box/flatirons club - currently just looks old and crappy compared to the East side. I'm only basing this ranking off the rumor I heard that we sold out club seats on the East side? If so, it'd be nice to improve flatirons side to have more $$ club seating. Plus, it really does look crappy from the east side stands.

3 - improve CU's South Boulder "campus" and build a facility with baseball/softball fields, etc.. Probably wouldn't bring any real money into the AD, but would be great to have. Eventually, I think we need to add these sports now that we're in the Pac.

4 - upgrade Dal Ward - would provide improved offices & weight room & ??? Not sure I'm sold on this really being needed, but I've heard it mentioned, so I'm putting it in here.

5 - closing the north end of Folsom - would increase stadium capacity & noise. This would ideally be my #1 choice, but we can't sell 53K worth of seats, so I don't know why we would add another 10K(?) seats. But, the noise increase and more fans in the house would be sweet.

If anyone knows financial estimates for the projects, that'd be good to hear. The only one I've heard is a rough $50 million estimate for the indoor facility.

Am I missing any others? Remember, this is a facilities wishlist, so a new HC is not part of this discussion :smile2:

In the ideal world where money is no object, I'd like to see the fieldhouse completely torn out, along with the pressbox, and have a second deck added to the South side of the Stadium, and a mirror image of the East side along the West side of the stadium. Close in the North side. Combine the current rec center with a new fieldhouse that includes an olympic sized swimming/diving facility along with a water polo facility. Indoor track and indoor football practice facilities, regulation ice rink with seating for 5,000 +/-. My estimated cost of this little project is about a half a billion dollars. Get it done, boys.

Indoor practice facility is a no-brainer, ISU, K-State, KU, I think Baylor even has one. I know it will cost a lot of money, but how the hell do the bottom feeders afford one?

Burrito stands at every gate entrance in Folsom. This is feasible, IMO.

This minus the ice rink. Use the money for the ice rink for bigger scoreboards.

A high def large video board is high on my list. CU's scoreboards are embarrassing compared to the video boards in a growing number of B12-2 stadiums. CU's video board is on par with Cal. But then again, Cal will be upgrading their stadium and I'm betting that includes a newer, state of the art video wall.

I'm not asking to out do Texas or Nebraska. But CU ought to atleast keep up with Kansas.

I also would like Folsom to have some radio engineers figure out how to make Folsom one giant Wi-Fi hot spot, where any fan can get use their smart phones to have highspeed access the internet.

The fieldhouse is old and in need of a major overhaul.
I'm fine with keeping the exterior as is. But the inside should be completely redone.

Make the press boxes state of the art. Make some luxury boxes that are luxurious. Make a second floor and put in a killer weight room. This could free up some space in Dal Ward. The bottom floor of Balch should be a well lit hospitality and concession area that includes a sports bar with flatscreen TV's and food service. New bathroom facilities that don't gross people out would be nice.

The track team would need a new indoor running facility and locker room area. If volleyball can have a new facility by CSC, then surely the track and cross country team could get a new locker room and indoor running facility by Potts.

CU and Boulder has a huge cycling and triathlon community. CU could also stand to have a velodrome and swimming facility that is competitive in the Pac12. Oregon has done a good job taking the title for being the center of the running world. CU needs to grab that back.

We need to get going on the North end. I believe we should expand Folsom Field because we have been consistent with the crowd despite nearly five crappy seasons under Hawkins. If the Buffs only filled up half of the stadium, this wouldn't be necessary at all but we need to be prepared once the Buffs start winning like crazy in the Pac-12. Utah has plans to expand RES to 65-70k and from our Ute friends, they should have everything in place by December.

The next step is to build the indoor track facility because that will get the running teams out of Balch Fieldhouse...are we able to demolish that building so we can expand the west side of Folsom Field in a big way?

Step three is to expand Folsom Field on the west side. I believe we will be at 65k when it is all done. Folsom Field will be LOUDER than ever.

The west side expansion will be able to help pay for the indoor practice facility and Dal Ward improvements. That expansion will also help bring baseball back.

I believe more west coast Buff alums will want to be visiting Boulder sooner than later so we got to get going on the stadium expansion.

I agree but how much more needs to be done with our facilities? I believe sooner than later, we will be able to turn our focus to Folsom Field.

Quite a bit I think. Indoor practice facility for one. Isn't our weight room kind of dumpy? Let's fix that as well.

Folsom has been getting some treatment. The east side was redone. They got the new lighting and gate system outside.

I've heard that before on the weight room needing improvement, but I walked through it a few years ago at an open house type of deal and it seemed fine to me (wasn't a palace by any means, and IMO didn't seem like a dump). Maybe my standards are low for a weight room though? Maybe it needs to be larger to accommodate upwards of 100 guys at a time?

Major press box and video board overhauls. Behind most big programs in those areas right now. Probably a few high schools too.

I also request leaving the south end zone untouched. Adding too much to the south or west sides of the stadium will ruin the view of campus buildings and Flatirons for fans/TV. Would really detract from the unique setting of Folsom and what makes it such a great setting for football. I've seen ambitious expansion projects at other college stadiums and it ruins the feel of the campus stadium, and blocks previous views of campus/downtown settings and makes the stadium like any garden variety college or professional venue.

If they want to expand the capacity of Folsom, they'll have to do some major expansion on the South and West sides of the stadium. No getting around it. Look at it this way - you don't go to a football game to enjoy the view.

i think in the Glorious Pac 12 Future, when we expand for more D-1 sports (say, baseball or hockey) a smallish, multi-use stadium out on the east campus like DU has for lacrosse and field hockey, maybe soccer too....would be nifty to help with Title IX (along with swimming/diving, i think the cost of field hockey can't be that high. DU's is a very nice, but not extravagant facility. sport grass, nice one side stone bleachers and edifice. simple, well-done. i can't imagine the pricetag would be so high for such a solid mult-use facility. Who knows, maybe that's what goes in Franklin Field with the Folsom/CU Campus quarrystone brick edifice.

I would guess that when you are talking about recruits looking at USC, Texas, Oregon facilities-- it does look like a dump.

I would support building out the north end of the stadium and the press box and leave double deck on the south end for very last. We can add some good capacity on the north and west sides before closing out the south. And video boards need to increase in size and quality.would like to see the norht end closed and Dal Ward increased in size and quality and the press box redone and leeave south of the press box open to views.

Anything that is attractive to recruits. Practice facility, great locker rooms (with video games and such as these kids seem to like), outstanding weight training facilities, etc. Gotta have all the glitz and glamor for kids these days. We may never have the money to do this, but it must be some type of priority. We are one of the few major programs that has not done this.

Then once our football product becomes relevant again we can focus on stadium improvements and everything else.

When Dal Ward was considered the cream of the crop in terms of facility we were kicking **s in the recruiting department (obviously mostly because of Mac and his staff). We will never be able to compete with many of these schools in terms of facilities now and ever, but we need to do our best to get as close as possible.

Due to the number of athletes the Buffs have compared to Nebraska, the need for a bigger weight room isn't there. With the new VB/BB practice facility including a weightroom for the volleyball team and basketball teams, it frees up the weightroom's schedule for the other teams. I don't know about the other athletic teams but they will eventually get their own weightrooms or something like that and the football team will be just fine.

An indoor practice facility can house the future weight room facility as well. I still like the idea of CU's weight room facilities being above Folsom Field for the football players. It wouldn't cost that much to replace the equipment in the room compared to building a new building for that very purpose.
