I'm getting excited for this. My sports addiction apparently knows no bounds...

"The level of distribution we already have by virtue of the agreement with the cable companies is unprecedented," he said. "Any fan that is in our footprint will have an opportunity to get our service at launch. Not any but the majority, which is very rare for a new network to be able to say this far in advance. Rather than focusing on what we don't have, the real focus is what we do have. There aren't many channels that launch with this much."
Suck it LHN. Looks like no movement with the satellite companies though.

What about fans outside the footprint? I'm not expecting the Buffs to get picked up for many games in the top two tiers, which means if you don't get third tier access, you don't get to see your team.

I know, I'm focussing on what we don't have.

you will need to call your cable provider and ask for the channel. Hopefully it will be on direct tv or something.

Unlike the LHN, the Pac 12 Network does not alienate anybody within its footprint. It demonstrates the solidarity of the conference, and leverages that unity. Sure, I'll pay five bucks a month to support USC (****ers) but I'll be supporting my team too, and my conference so it's okay.

The LHN only favors one team, so naturally fans of other teams in the region don't want to support it. Passionately. Also, they obviously failed to negotiated distribution in advance, relying on the "We're ESPN and The University of Texas...everybody ****ing loves us" strategy.

I wonder if sometimes, as he's drifting off to sleep, Larry Scott doesn't chuckle a little as he thinks about the LHN.

As a Duck fan I was not the biggest supporter of Larry Scott when he expanded the conference and gave the 4 newest schools a division with the So-Cal schools. My opinions have changed now seeing how much he has changed this conference for the better. The Pac-12 went from ACC money to better money then the SEC and with all the negotiating still going on it may very well get better. The conference as a whole has never felt more secure and strong so at this point I trust anything Larry Scott does.

**** you Duck fan. I'm going to withhold your .25 dollars from my cable bill. Solidarity can lick my balls.

I love you too and I get .25 dollars from the Pac-12 TV deal? If so that will increase my bank account from 0 to .25!

Not Candian money either...I'm talking about the real stuff (hopefully TBD doesn't venture into this thread).

This. I love me some DireTv but I have to have the Pac12 Channel.

My DirecTV contract is up next summer. If there is no P12 Network, they either are cutting my rates in half or my ass is going to switch to Comcast.

If you look at how the Big Ten is distributed, they charge cable/sat companies something like $.05-$.10 per sub out of market AND they let the station be in a 'premium' tier. You have to buy the $5 a month sports pack, but there's not much resistance to a company paying that little for the channel - consider big ten charges cable the $.05 only for subscribers to the sports pack which is a really small subset of total subscribers. Big Ten gets something like $1 for EVERY cable subscriber in market, just like ESPN does or Altitude does - that's no small amount of money, and you'd expect cable to balk at it... and that's why p12 rollout being so smooth is a great job by larry scott.

bad thing is right now none of the sports pack channels are HD in cable. but there is no good reason people shouldn't get the p12 network out of market.

Also, the pac 12 is planning for all football and men's basketball games to be nationwide - so not just the local schools. The third tier or Olympic sports will be the regional ones featuring mostly local schools. Not sure how you'd watch, say, an out of market volleyball game and mostly I don't think many people care that much... but i'd think a internet streaming option would be available.

Also mentioned is the fact that the network will be based in Northern California, which should help make things less LA centric. Though that means they will slobber the knob of Stanford non-stop.

The main point here is the following. When you start up a network you have 2 options - a) team up with a TV channel to take care of content or b) team up with some cable providers etc. to take care of distribution. UT chose a), the P12 chose b).

OK, so I called DirecTV. Apparently, since I've been a subscriber for something like 10 years, they pretend to think highly of me. Anyhow, I was directed to send an e-mail to some person in charge of programming. I later got a call from her (or probably somebody who works for her). I told her that I want my Pac 12 network, dammit. She surmised that the team I wanted to watch was CU, so she asked me if I bought the NCAA gameplan. I said no, I don't want the gameplan, I want to watch CU.

Anyway - if you have DirecTV, give them a call. It's worth a minute or two of your time to ensure that we're included.

The Pac-12 network should be readily available on DTV like the Big 10 Network is. If not then it's a colossal mistake by the Pac.

It wouldn't be the Pac's mistake. I'm certain that Larry Scott and his people are working very hard at securing distribution on DirecTV. If they don't get it, it'll be DirecTV's fault, not the Pac's.

I don't think the B10 network was available on DirecTV right off the bat, but I could be wrong. I do have it now and I don't have the sports tier. It would be awesome if that happened with the P12 network as well.

I realize that Larry Scott can do no wrong in many people's minds, but there 2 sides to every negotiation and if Scott truly wants national distribution for every team's games then availability on DTV certainly needs to be part of that.

I haven't seen Larry Scott make a single mistake in the time we've been associated with this conference. I'm confident that he'll make every effort to have the Pac 12 network included on DirecTV. The more pressure we can put on DirecTV to distribute the Pac 12 network, the more likely they will be to strike a deal that is favorable to the Pac 12, and by extension to CU.
