ASU to hire....

They actually offered it to Craig James first they just have Sumlin as a backup

Everyone is going full spread in the P12. It's going to be us, Stanford, and USC that run a traditional offense, and that's about it.

I see a lot of high scoring offenses in the Pac-12's future. Will be interesting to see if Chip asks for a raise since he is no where near the top and a better coach then Leach, RR and probably Sumlin. Although if I was the University I would make Chip win a damn BCS game before giving him a raise.

Lots of conflicting tweets out there. Some saying he hasn't talked to ASU at all. Some saying it's basically a done deal. Definitely a lot of smoke and I wouldn't fault him for taking it (then again, is he just using it to pry the biggest raise he can out of UofH?).

For sure the spread is coming to the PAC12 (where Oregon already runs their version to a T).

I wouldn't call it an arm's race. This is where salaries are at, and the PAC12 now has some TV money to compete.

It still is very different than the Big12 was where they will spend anything on facilities and coaches because CFB is all they got.

Talk radio in Phoenix reporting that Sumlin is more likely to go to Aggie after Sherman gets fired than come to ASU. I hope that is true.

If the aTm gig were to open up as some have speculated, I would think that would be better for him.

Is Embree the lowest paid coach in the conference now? Hell, I guess he may have been the lowest paid coach in the conference before.

ASU throwing around real money. Glad we got our guy cheap so we can put the money into facilities

Sumlin to A&M? I just don't know if that's a good fit. Sumlin is a good coach, maybe a very good coach. And Aggie might want a new coach to go with their fresh start in the SEC, but I'm not sure I see Sumlin's spread offense as a good fit in College Station. Throw in the fact that Sumlin's defense isn't anything special and I'm not sure the Wrecking Crew is going to approve.

Staying in Texas would enable him to keep his recruiting connections and I think A&M has a higher ceiling than ASU, but it also has a much tougher road ahead of it in the SEC.

Maybe Aggie is really going to do this. A pretty connected Aggie has tweeted within the past 30 minutes saying that Sherman is being told tonight that he is out. And that they would only move this fast if it was to get a specific coach, which makes me think they are worried about ASU getting Sumlin. I think this is going to play out very quickly. And that would be a VERY awkward thing for UofH (conference championship game this weekend and a subsequent BCS Bowl game, all coached by....who?)

Is anyone else concerned that he would be on anyone else's list? Why didn't we spend Pac12 money on some else. Anyone? Concerned?

Embree is now the lowest paid coach in the PAC-12. There is a possibility David Shaw makes less(Stanford and USC don't release salaries), but I view that as highly unlikely. Before Paul Wulff made less than Embree, but he is gone. So Embree is the last man standing under 1 million a year at 725,000.

he also voluntarily took less money so that the assistant salary pool would be higher

So, now that they are going to the SEC, are they allowed to lower their admission requirements for athletes? Because, if not, they will be getting their asses handed to them. BTW, aTm's Prez is a PUTZ!

This is a known certainty regardless.

GG...sounds like Sumlin has a bidding war going between ASU and Aggy

Just told by source w/ knowledge of the situation that ASU prepared to offer Sumlin $4 million per year

:wtf:...Didn't Sumlin inherit a Houston program on the rise and Keenum from Briles? I'd rather hire the guy that built them back up then the guy who inherited that effort.

So you'd rather have Hawk than Peterson?

This has aggie being aggie written all over it. Aggie outbids ASU to pay Sumlin top 10 NCAA head coaching salary. He bombs in the SEC. Hilarity ensues...
