I try not to get too caught up in stats, especially with tight ends, but 3 catches for 13 yards as a senior?

Really surprised he hasn't committed to Boise St. if they truly have offered.

Dude's got multiple Ivy League opportunities and you're surprised he's not going to a glorified juco? :smile2:

Iowa State is an AAU institution, so I would assume they're our biggest competition if we decide to offer and he wants to play big boy football.

Good points. He may also have the desire to play big time college football. Boise has been highly ranked but they are still playing in second rate conferences. He may not be excited about playing road games in front of 20,000 fans in stadiums that are a 4 hour bus ride from the nearest airport large enough to handle a team plane.

Visiting this weekend (12/9).

I could only find his stats through the first 6 games and didn't find any highlights.

9 catches for 67 yards, 1 TD and 1 2pt conversion.

Is it possible to get a review from somebody who can see his highlight video?

Plays with a very good pad level, loves to hit, catches with his hands, and accelerates well off the line and after the catch. Looks like he understands blocking angles and defensive coverages and would be a guy who would move the chains. Played more in the H-back / Move TE role than he did lined up tight. Very limited amount of film, so it's hard to know.

Offers from Brown, Cornell, Harvard and North Texas.

One of these things is not like the others, one of these things is not the same.

With JCF looking like a longshot, it looks like we may end up offering Stevens, but I think it would be a better decision to just take two TEs next year instead.

Not sure if you are advocating using the scholly on another position or for holding it for 2013...

I'm convinced that Embree is thinking this way though:

1. Take extra guys at positions that require guys to play immediately (CB, DL, TE, RB). Competition will bring out the best and we are desperate for a couple guys at each position to emerge (ala Rodney Stewart)

2. Do not hold scholarships back for next year if you can get good football players now. Next year's numbers look light now, but that could change. It will be tough to be very competitive in 2012 (see above item 1) and frankly, when a team plays badly in year 2, it's tougher for recruits to overlook. Not saying we won't be competitive but if we are, it will be because we found about 8 freshman who were very good on day one. We got some holes on the depth chart.....

UTSA bound.

Safe to say we told him we would not have room for him in this class.

Best of luck to Trevor. Seems like a great young man. Thought he'd go Ivy, though.

Recruiting is not always about filling out the depth chart. Seems the coaches will go hard after another couple TEs in next year's class. Our depth chart should look good to elite recruits.

Best of luck to him. I would have gone Ivy over UTSA but if this is the best situation for him can't fault the kid. UTSA plays their home games at the Alamo Dome and they sell beer at the regular season games. Should be fun for the family. Wish they still sold beer at Folsom :)
