Hawkins to Fresno

buffs

Ringo's latest post has Hawkins as possible Fresno candidate:

"Hawkins reunion? I've heard through the coaching carousel that former Hawkins has expressed interest in the Fresno State job. No word on whether Fresno State officials have interest in Hawkins. If Hawkins was hired to lead the Bulldogs, it would make for some fun story lines in September the next two seasons. The Buffs travel to play at Fresno State in the third game next season and Fresno State returns to Boulder in 2013. Hawkins was fired by CU in November 2010 toward the end of his fifth consecutive losing season in Boulder. Prior to coaching the Buffs, he helped build Boise State into the top-10 juggernaut it is today. During his five seasons at Boise State, he went 4-1 against Fresno State in the Western Athletic Conference. Fresno State is scheduled to become a member of the Mountain West Conference next season, which would mean regular trips back to this state for Hawkins."

Mods: merge to coaching thread if needed

When they stop laughing, they might call him back. Just a courtesy, ya know.

According to the Fresno Bee (gotta love that name), the job is going to be offered to Texas A&M defensive coordinator Tim DeRuyter

Pleeeease let this happen. Of course if it did, and we lost to them next year, I'd have to kill myself.

"Well Pat's a great guy and did a great job bringing in a bunch of awesome kids and getting that program to such an awesome place. I'd be fired up at the chance to get in there and get some fire going and get some momentum going," stated Hawkins when reached about the Fresno State opening. "Let's throw a little Hawk love out there," he added, "and let's get going."

I'd rather him go to ASU or one of the other open PAC jobs.

That ASU job does remain tantalizingly open as more and more candidates go by the wayside. C'mon Sparky, you know there's no other way. GIVE IN TO THE DARK SIDE AND HIRE HIM. What's the worst that could happen?

Fresno really isn't far enough down on the food chain to take a risk on DII...everybody knows what went on here while he was merrily corkscrewing the program into the ground for the benfit of his son. No AD in D I is going to put their neck out for a [insert term of endearment here] like Coach Care Bear.

Is Hawkins one of Sarah Palin's speechwriters?

DH's rep is shot. I'd be shocked if he got another BCS program job. More likely, a low end D1 or a D2 job, if any.

Dan is as likely to get a div 1 job as is JoePa at this point.

fify

Actually it may be a slight posibility. There may be some AD and/or university president out there who buy his shtick but highly unlikely.

Again, this comes from my heart more than what anyone with a valid opinion of the situation would probably express: I truly believe the plane crash that was the hawLkins era at CU may have coached him out of the profession. The way he interacted with outsiders and (from stories I've heard) insiders coupled with the results on the field were so abysmal I can't see anyone with half a brain giving him the keys to another D1 program again. The kind of players Pat Hill recruited to Fresno would probably kick the **** out of him the first time he tried to sing koombaya after getting their ***es handed to them

Being on TV has a way of making people forget your coaching pedigree. Also, several coaches let him onto their practice fields after he got sh1tcanned.

Id like him to get the head gig at Penn St, that would be great. Keeping our horns out in this time of crisis, can hear that douche already.

Actually D II would be a good fit at PSU...you could be sure he would not be molesting anyone, he'd be too busy effing up he FB program...
