Women's lacrosse is the most likely sport to be added to the Colorado athletic department later this spring based on startup costs, annual costs of funding the program, a growing local recruiting base and the ability to compete regionally and with other Pac-12 Conference opponents.

I think this is a very worthy investment and more reflective of lacrosse being the hot sport compared to softball in this state. To build a strong program, it has to start at the local level and DU already has a team and I could see the Front Range schools adding that sport sooner than later.

I heard that lacrosse is the #2 varsity sport in Colorado behind football and is still the fastest growing varsity sport in the state. This makes perfect sense.

Women's lacrosse is a bastard child of real lacrosse. No helmets, barely any pads, and utterly pointless. All they do is wear goggles, run down the field and shoot at a net with no defense allowed. Ugh.

If the Lacrosse team can draw 10K/game they are making money. With the growing popularity of the sport I see this as completely achievable in the next 10 years.

If basketball can't draw near 10,000 a game, how is lacrosse going to? I like lacrosse and played it myself in high school, but I just dont see it as a big time sport. I vote baseball.

Sure, why not. If I don't get a baseball team by the end of the decade, however, I'm gonna be pissed.

What team did you play for? I played a couple Austin teams in state tourneys when I played for the Cy-Fair Ironmen (DII).

UVA gets 8-10k for the biggest men's lacrosse games and draws well for women too. You'd be amazed.

I'm not enamored with Ringo's article. He starts with the premise that women's lacrosse will be the next sport that CU adds, and that it's his job to sell that to the masses.

There is no material discussion about the merits of WLAX versus gymnastics, swimming, softball, or other women's sports that are supported by a majority of P12 peers. Is lacrosse even an Olympic sport?

If everyone but CU has women's gymnastics or swimming, then shouldn't CU prioritize those sports ahead of WLax?

If revenue is important, then a case should be made as to why gymnastics is ruled out.

According to this site, Utah averages 10K fans and sells out their 15K arena on occation.

Alabama has a similar attendence story as Utah

Lacrosse isn't going to do that.

Here's why...
