CSU stadium

On my lunch break I made my way over to ramnation to see what's going on with them with the news of navy going to the big east.

I see a lot of thread talking about a petition for an on campus stadium. I thought it was going to happen. Does anyone know what's going on? I'd love CCsquared to fill me in. This isn't a troll thread. I had a change of heart and I'm actually hoping with our big announcements that CSU has some of their own. Let's make college football big in the state.

They're getting community pushback. Basically the same thing we should expect when/if our plans are announced. Apparently there is a townhall meeting about it on Feb 3.

****, that would piss me off. I'm definitely going to any townhall meetings if the Boulderites get up in arms about what happens on campus.

Did you read the comments in the BDC about Yuri? These people are ridiculous.

Unless Boulder has changed dramatically over the past 10 years, I can almost gaurantee it will happen.

The good citizens of Boulder can put up as big of a stink as they want to. Doesn't matter. CU is a state institution and does whatever the hell it wants to do. Same for CSU, actually. CSU can tell Ft. Collins to go jump in a lake.

Isn't it true that since CU is a state institution it doesn't have to abide by height restrictions etc or any other BS Boulder ordinance they might try to push on us?

It's even worse if the people in Boulder try to bitch. Nothing CU is apparently looking at changes anything for the citizens of Boulder. At least some of the people in Fort Collins would stand to be impacted by the stadium moving on campus with traffic, parking, etc. None of that would really change in Boulder...

I assume you've seen Will Vill, The Gamow towers, and the club level/luxury boxes at Folsom, right? Yes, CU doesn't have to comply with any Boulder ordinances. Where it gets tricky is on the South Campus, where any expansion would require city water, and the city isn't willing to sell it. As for campus renovations & expansion, what the city wants is irrelevant. I'm sure CU will take it all into consideration, and maybe even let some city folks in on the design, but in the end, the final decision will be with CU.

Correct.

Haven't looked recently but based on the comments in the Ft. Collins paper the support for an on-campus stadium is far from universal. Lots of people concerned with traffic and parking, some with the loss of open space. A lot more are wondering about the financial cost (even though it is supposed to be privately funded) and the idea that they heard that with the impovements to Hughes that attendance would go up and instead it has gone down.

Based on the history and performance of their program and the support (or lack of) they have gotten I'm not sure that the opponents don't have a valid point.

The opponents have no say in the matter.

From a purely legal standpoint you are right but from a political standpoint they have a lot to say about it.

Some of the CSU faithful may think this is a done deal but it is a long, long way from that.

Oh no there may be extra traffic from 2000 vehicles for 1 hour on 5-6 Saturdays a year!!! People from outside may actually visit our city for once. Wwwaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh

That's the other thing that amazes me. Traffic concerns. They're really going to be up in arms about traffic for six days out of the year? Saturdays, no less? Really?!?

Keep in mind this is the same Boulder City Council that spent endless amounts of time debating changing "pet owners" to "pet gaurdians" around 10 years ago.

From what I have heard the opponents are just being more vocal at this point, but are certainly in the minority. CSU has stated that it is going to make the development of the stadium plan as transparent and open to public comment from Fort Collins residents as it possibly can, but as Sacky stated, ultimately CSU has the authority to complete construction as it sees fit. At this point nothing is off track. There is a public meeting on February 3 on campus and students, alumni and Fort Collins residents have all been invited to comment. Overall, since the stadium plans were announced, the response has been extremely positive with a few vocal critics (i.e. one former mayor and the Coloradoan's editorial board). To answer your question DPLY, CSU appears to be aggressively moving forward with its plans.

Good to hear. You guys mught just be trailblazers for our future expansion plans.

There's a BIG difference between CU adding a practice facility and improving buildings that are already on campus and CSU building a new stadium. If it's funded, there's not much Boulder can do since CU is using CU land and there reallywon't be any major impacts noticeable to the community.

CSU is facing questions about traffic, noise, waste management, and everything else that comes with adding a stadium in the middle of a residential area. To be fair, I don't think Fort Collins has much of a leg to stand on. The impact of adding 15k fans for 7 weeks a year is nothing. This is where CSU should really emphasize that they'll never actually attract 50k people to a stadium.

Rumor has it that CSU will be imposing a cover charge to attend the public meeting - $300,000 a head. So if half their season ticket holders show up, that's like....$3M for the stadium fund.

If you ever read the crap they spew about cu on a daily basis.....I want CU to be BIG, csu I could care less.

This is why you don't announce your facility plans when they are still in the "wish" phase.

CU's being smart. Get the lead donors. Have final plans and costs. Secure all or most of the financing. Then you make bring it to the Regents and the public. At that stage, everyone with a cause isn't able to gum up the works.

Based on what one of our recruits said about our facilities and big changes coming, it sounds like, like other posters have said, we are getting close. If its true they are showing off drawings or the initial program for the facility, then we would be probably looking at a finished facility in 3-5 years Most of these recruits probably won't get to use it as students, but I think it shows a big time commitment to football that helps push them over the edge.

I'm guessing maybe we will hear something from the AD in May after this deal goes through with some news of additional private funding for some upgrades? I hope so. Mr. Solich has been a great alum so far. He's already given a lot to all the campuses already.

CSU Prez already said if there was enough opposition they wouldn't go through with a new stadium
