Some CU MBB players transferring out this summer?

If you caught wind of Kyle Ringo's web chat today on BuffZone, he did say a few players could transfer out this summer. Any idea who that might be?

Logic would be Shannon Sharpe who has not recovered from his injury sufficiently to complete for PT with Ski and the Mayor plus all the new guys coming in and Mills who is looking at two freshman bigs coming in following a year where he barely got off the bench.

Mills and I think Sharpe retires. The way I understand it is if Sharpe retires, he can still have his school paid for but it can open up his scholarship. Can someone confirm this or tell me I'm an idot.

Wouldn't Sharpe be eligible for a medical hardship waiver?

Mills is the other guy I heard talked about.

Confirmed and you are an idot.

Transfers are going to happen. When you're a program that wins 20+ games a year and has coaching stability, it's not a bad thing. Guys want minutes. There are quality D1 players who won't be able to earn them here. It's a really good group of guys and I'll certainly be following and cheering on any Buffs who decide to move on to a situation where they'll have fun playing a lot of minutes.

Am I the only one who thinks that Mills leaving is a crazy move on his part? Why on Earth would he do that? It's not like he's going to get a bunch of minutes someplace else.

I actually think Mills leaving would be a perfect scenario. I would much rather have us be able to recruit three players (2013 Scholarship, Mills Transfer and Shannon Retired) for the 2013 cycle than just one. Even if Shannon comes back to the team, that would leave us with two. We would be able to potentially bring in a high profile guard and a more skilled big man in replace of Mills.

At CU with Gordon and Scott coming in and SHT returning and improving Mills is likely to be the odd man out getting no time at CU.

He doesn't fit Tad's system, he doesn't have the bulk or the footwork to play man to man post defense. He doesn't move well enough to play in Tad's uptempo offense.

On the other hand he is seven feet tall and has some skills. There should be a bunch of mid-major teams that would love to have him as at least a key back-up who can play the middle in the zone and use his height in a more set type of offense.

He isn't going to get much attention from power conference teams but there are over 300 teams playing D1 basketball. For many of these teams a seven footer who can play some, even if he is skinny as a straw would be very welcome. How would he fit in at a school like DU or in Greeley. I doubt they would release him to those schools but schools in the MAC, the Missouri Valley, etc. would be interested.

Those are fine for us (fans of CUBuffsMBB), but Sacky was asking the benefit for Mills. To answer that, he can find a smaller program where he can have a better chance to earn minutes. He has very little (almost zero) chance to earn them here, so if he really wants to see court time he needs to look at smaller schools as options.

Mills would start at a number of Big Sky or Horizon teams. Sharpe would, too.

*cough* Wisconsin-Milwaukee *cough* No info, just a logical guess.

If he wanted to go home this would make some sense. I think he could actually start for some higher profile teams than this if he wanted to go there.

He was also getting a ton of interest from Creighton, Indiana, Marquette and Minnesota. If he'd wanted to go to any of them, they would have likely offered.

His biggest drawback is his lack of bulk and strength. He hasn't developed in those areas the way that some had hoped he would coming out of HS. That said, seven footers who have some skills and athletic ability aren't exactly common. I don't think he would get much interest from power conference schools but I think that a lot of schools from the next level would have a real interest.

If Sharpe wanted to transfer he could get similar interest. With the knee he is no longer a top level prospect but his skills are still good enough to compete at a mid-lower level D1 school and I would think a number would be interested if he wanted to go.

I definitely am not versed in mills' high school resume, but surprised to see that indiana and marquette were in the mix.
