Frank Martin to South Carolina?

There goes K State recruiting. After Huggins and Martin, I don't know who they could possibly go to who is willing to play as dirty to get players into Manhattan Kansas. Maybe they could hire Tim Floyd away from UTEP. It's been a few years since he paid OJ Mayo's handler. Most folks probably won't remember and, besides, the NCAA seems ok with Floyd still being the head man at one of their member programs.

This seems like a really odd move, but what do I know.

I love how Tim Floyd was when of the first guys that came to Ben Howland's defense when that SI article came out. I am sure Howland love that.

South Carolina is obviously a much nicer place to be than K-State (Columbia sucks, but their campus is pretty nice). They've got decent facilities (Colonial Life is a huge arena, but only fills when Kentucky fans take it over). Very little basketball tradition to speak of though -- they've had a nice season here and there, but only 8 NCAA Tournament appearances total (last appearance was 2004, last time they won a tournament game was 1973) It's a sleeping giant of sorts given the fertile recruiting territory it's near (Charlotte, Atlanta, and of course Martin would hit south Florida extremely hard). That's probably the main draw for him -- much easier to bring talent out of south Florida to South Carolina than it is to K-State. There's also certainly room for another solid basketball program in the SEC. It would be pretty manageable to move up the SEC pecking order relatively quickly and get established as a perennial NCAA Tournament-caliber team right behind UK and UF. Vandy is solid, but they wouldn't be clashing with Martin for the same type of recruits, that's for damn sure..

South Carolina has no basketball tradition. Seems like a lateral move to me. Frank should go for the Illinois job. Right next door to Chicago recruits.

I'm sure he would if he had Chicago connections but he has South Florida connections so the South Carolina job makes sense for Martin.

Highly doubt Floyd makes that move....met him this year as my Cousin plays for UTEP, he's well liked and supported at UTEP already and seems to relish where he's at after the USC debacle....UTEP will have a very good team in a year or two

Is Martin still banned from having contact with Florida high school kids or was that only a ban on him coaching high school basketball there?

I don't have a link to an official story but what I always recall hearing was it was coaching high school. K-Juco had 3 south Floridians on the roster this year.

we can change the title of the thread and remove the question mark.
Kansas State coach Frank Martin has accepted the head coach position with the South Carolina Game****s, he confirmed in a text message to ESPN.com.
Martin met with South Carolina officials Monday and said conversations first started between his party and South Carolina on Saturday. Martin had texted Friday night that he had not spoken to South Carolina officials.

Has the feel of Bzdelik leaving us for Wake.

Except unlike Bzdelik walking into a hornets nest at Wake Forest, Martin is walking into a job with very low expectations. All he has to do is get South Carolina to the Big Dance once or twice a decade and typically produce an NIT-caliber product (~18 wins) most years, and they'll build a statue to him. The truth is Game**** basketball died when they left the ACC.

According to the world of twitter, Bill Reiter (foxsports.com writer) seems to think Tad Boyle is a frontrunner for the KSU job. Seems unlikely that Boyle would leave for Manhattan, and I hope not as it looks like CU is headed in the right direction under Boyle.

Sorry, didn't mean to come off as a troll. I'm a CU fan, new to the forum/long time browser. Had just heard of the rumor, and didn't know if anyone else here knew more about it.
