Which true freshmen contribute on offense this season?

It seems that the consensus is Wood will be our quarterback and that guys currently on campus will fill out the OL, but the picture at RB, WR, and TE is much murkier.

The question is which true freshmen can make an impact. McCulloch played quite a bit last season, but his overall impact was negligible. Luckily we had a stellar second half from Clemons to offset that lack of production. I think Jeffrey Thomas at WR, Gerald Thomas at returner, and Austin Ray are the three guys I see having the biggest impact.

Thoughts?

One of the RB's (I'm guessing Donta, but I know I'm going against the grain there).

Otherwise, spot on.

Payne and Norgard are going to blow some people the **** up.

Austin Ray is going to be a star.

You didn't hear it here first, but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Forgot about the fullbacks. Norgard probably has the early edge there with getting spring reps.

Gonna be interesting to see what happens at RB. I think Jones will get every opportunity to get a lot of the carries. But you have to think Payne stands to get some playing time, and possibly Abron as well. It may all depend on how the fullbacks are used in the running game. Harrington only had two carries last season.

Hopefully

Daviene Payne- FR RB
Clay Nogard FR FB
Donta Abron Jr FR RB
Gerald Thomas FR WR/returner
Austin Ray TE FR - I have my doubts about Nick Kasa
Hobbs TE FR
Powell FB FR

Defense

Kisima Jagne DE
Dejon Wilson DE
Solis DT
Topou DT
Keneth Crawley CB
Yuri Wright CB

Harrington became a weapon in the passing game towards the end of the season. I think being able to catch and run out of the backfield may be what ultimately separates Norgard and Payne. Both look the part and both seem like incredibly tough guys that can handle the blocking aspects.

Hopefully three or four guys on the defensive line. Otherwise, this will be a long painful season.

At a minimum, I believe that we need (at least):

-1 RB
-1 FB
-1 TE
-1 WR
-1 OL

-2 DTs
-1 DE
-1 CB

freshman to step up and earn regular playing time in the two deep. On the DL, we simply have no other options.

That being said, on offense I predict that Jeffrey Thomas, Davien Payne, Christian Powell, and Austin Ray will get the most PT.

out of necessity:

the corners play.

one of the rbs plays.

a te probably plays.

other than that, it will be based upon readiness and development.

Norgard, Pow
Both Thomas boys
Payne, Abron
Ray

That said, sometimes you get a surprise. We had one on defense last year, maybe we'll get one on offense this year.

Both Offense & Defense

From your recruits, Solis, Jagne and Wright - assuming grades are ok and they learn the system in time. Possibly Powell if the injury bug returns to your running game like it hit your secondary last year. Just a troll guess and all but I'd bet at least two of these guys play this year and contribute.

RB: Payne or Abron, possibly both
FB: Norgard or Powell, hopefully one can redshirt so we have some class separation.
WR: JT and GT
TE: Ray, hopefully Hobbs and Irwin can redshirt
OL: Seems like the coaches are high on Jeromy Irwin, but hopefully he's allowed to redshirt. If he plays, it's because our OL sucks and that's not good.

Wood is not a true frosh

I think that was BB's point. He doesn't see a true frosh at QB or OL. I assume he also sees PRich as a lock at one WR spot. Everything else is up for grabs.

I actually disagree on the OL. I think Alex Kelley could win a starting job (true frosh grayshirt).
