If Connor Wood is not the starting QB come the first game of the season, how does your outlook on this season change?

From Bowl game bubble to no bowl game. It has been awfully quiet from the Wood camp this Spring

It means our true frosh QB is the greatest QB of all time and we will win all our games.

If its Webb I would guess 4-5 wins as opposed to 6. If its Dillon or any of the others, 3 wins

Hypothetically, I would step away from this board for a few days and avoid melting down.

Hypothetically, is there any reason to believe that Connor Wood will not be the starting QB on opening day?

Every look back and think what the mood would be right now if Woods hadn't transferred? We'd have a 4 way battle between an injured Hirschman, Shrock, Webb, and a true freshman. Guh.

So Wood = Brian White, Hirschman = James Cox, and Webb = Bernard Jackson?

Oh, boy.

Honestly, BB, I don't have an opinion yet. I haven't seen any of them play much (if at all) in games. Webb's the only one there's a lot of D1 game film on and he looks like he kind of player who can QB a 6+ win team if he's got a good OL and other help around him. On paper, Wood seems to be the one guy who might have the ability to raise the level of the team. But I think that's something he'd grow into as a junior and senior... not something I'm putting much expectation on for his sophomore year, which is also his first year in the system.

It wouldn't alter my expectations at all. There is no one with more incentive to win next year than Embo. The team's focus has been on making a bowl game this year (note the use of the phrase, "bowl game" to conclude pactices). He wants (and needs) the reward of a bowl game as validation that the team is headed in the right direction and that his way works. I trust that he'll pick the QB that gives him the best chance to acheive the objective that he selected.

QB battle? May the best man win.

except for the guy from ku, we don't know if any of them can actually play well in a real game. i won't melt down until i see what happens on the field. wood has the annual hype that we Buff diehards give whomever is the latest qb savior in a long line of qbs. we've danced this dance before. because i can't help myself, i'll envision him playing like andrew luck, right out of the gate. but, we've not had a difference-maker at qb since klatt. and, some folks would even argue whether klatt was a difference-maker. hansen might have been good had juicebox not ****ed him up over his whole career, but we'll never know.

all i know for sure is that the easiest path to a quick turnaround in college football is to have an elite qb at the helm.

ZERO change in my outlook!

Probably explains why I'm more pessimistic than others. I don't have Wood penciled in for much at this point.

Is Wood the guy Rivals had as a top 3 Pro-Style QB out of HS? Or is he the guy who was beat out by a true freshman for the #3 job at UT? Or was that just "politics" and not a true portrayal of his abilities? Hard to tell. I've watched him throw all of zero times... About the same as others here I suspect.

My baseline assertion until I've seen something different is that Wood is not going to set the world on fire from day 1. In fact, I'm not assuming he will win the QB job. If he does, I'm assuming he will struggle early like any other inexperienced Sophomore.

If he does win the job and plays great, that will all be upside. Too many transfers have broken my heart. Makiri Pugh was "the answer" at CB if I remember right.

I'd expect a close battle between Wood (rookie mistakes with more upside) vs Webb (less mistakes, less upside). I personally don't feel NH is in the competition at this point. But all of this is a guess.

Either way, low expectations on my end and if we have hit the lottery with Wood, we'll be a lot better than I'm currently preparing for.

It would definitely change it by a few wins. I do know this though, it wont be Hirschman starting, sorry BigBang.

I'm with buffaholic here. Sounds about right.

If Connor Wood is not the starting QB come the first game of the season, how does your outlook on this season change?

Depends on whether it's due to injury or selection. The former means we settled, but assuming you mean the latter, it could mean good things for us.

I've only seen Shrock throw in person and that was last year. He really impressed me. Granted it was practice but he was really composed. He through a great fade to the corner to McCullough and a nice bomb down the middle to hit Richardson in stride. I believe he also had a pick on the right side (looking from the defensive point of view) by Moten but it had been tipped by the receiver.

Wood has all the hype but I think Shrock has the skills also. I'm with Nik (and others) on this one. It wouldn't change my outlook either way. I'll be behind whoever the coaches choose.
