I'm curious.

For those of you answering "No", no explanation is really required.

If you answered "Yes", why?

Is it because you are worried about your taxes? Maybe because of it likely having an affect on our annual game (either moving back to campus or getting nixed entirely)? Maybe because you hate CSU and don't want this for them? Or maybe you think it would be good for the annual matchup or the state if CSU stepped up its game?

Nope.

Friend of mine is a CSU alum. Last night he was saying there is no reason to build a new stadium. He likes the tailgate options at Hughes and pointed out that they are never sold out at Hughes so why build an even bigger stadium.

I like how Fluff fans think that when CSU has a good basketball team its good for the rivalry and the state. Yet they claim CSU having a good football team has no effect on them. I would like for CU to have a good football team as the rivalry and football in the state actually means something then. The matchup was much better when both teams were good (late 90s and early 2000s).

Bottom line CSU having a good program is good for the state and us having the stadium would hopefully get the RMS back onto college campuses where it belongs.

I said that I care.

For me, it's entirely a matter of two things:

1. Taxes (or potential tuition increases to CO residents) when the university has to pay off the AD loans for the project.
2. Annual football game. I hate it being in Denver. I also hate the idea of doing home-home with CSU every year. My dilemma is that those attendance projections had to include them playing CU at their new stadium and Buff fans delivering a sell out to bump up the numbers. Without it, I'm back to #1.

 no

The CSU football game is a double edge sword for CU, and neither are good for CU.

I actually want CSU to get a new stadium just so I can watch it fail massively.

I also like how people say they don't care yet there are hundreds of posts on CSU's stadium on this board.

So obviously you care or you wouldn't post about it.

Please enlighten me on how a new stadium would "fail massively"

OMFGasm - you do realize that there is overwhelming support from the CU fan base to end the football series with CSU, right?

What happens to the plans if you don't have that game every year? Aren't proceeds from the "RMS" a big part of AD revenues?

If it sits half empty while creating a huge, unfunded debt.
A new stadium funded by private donations that is going to cost a substantial amount less in maintenance over Hughes is going to create "huge debt?" Not to mention a lot of the revenue isn't even reliant on attendance #s.... Naming rights, multi-use etc.

FAIL

you are the dumbest ****ing moron alive... it will not be completely funded by private donations... if you believe that... which it seems like you do... you probably need to be fitted with a helmet and a drool trough... tell me do you believe everything you read????

Private donations, naming rights, and sponsorships

And yes I will believe it until it is proven otherwise.

The cynicism from the fluff fans is comical

If it is half full for the next decade, it is a huge issue going forward. All of those "all-time high" Ram Club donations evaporate and it trickles down through the entire athletic department. There is no freaking way CSU can afford to have a half-empty stadium if it indeed gets built.

(Before you jump in with "derp" or "FAIL", I am not saying a new stadium will be a failure)

How is this so hard for you to grasp?

I really don't want CSU to disappear. I would love for them to somehow get into the big party. It seems unlikely but a new stadium couldn't hurt their chances.

I don't hate CSU. They are like an annoying little brother. I like to beat up on them but still want to see them succeed. They are family.

And yet that isn't any different than how it is not at Hughes. But we would still get the financial benefits of naming rights, multi-use venue and a cheaper to maintain facility than what we have now at Hughes.

A half empty new stadium on campus is better financially than a half empty Hughes. Thats what I'm saying

I want it built for two reasons: 1) To get the RMB out of Denver once and for all. I've made no secret of my utter disdain for the Denver game. I hate it. 2) football should be played on campus.

The thing that's crazy is that if they do build it, gasm will come around here and tell us that he told us so. In reality, it won't be until 4-5 years after it's built that we'll see the full impact of the new stadium. It's a risky move, and I don't think gasm fully understands the risks involved, even though we've been more than patient with him in pointing them all out.

Sure, but it needs to be more than just "better than Hughes" if you guys want it to be a true success for the AD and the university as a whole. I admire the ambition and I have no idea how it all turns out, but I think far too many CSU fans think it will be a success merely by being built. It is part of the journey, not the overall destination.

FAIL

If you have private funding secured so that this thing is nothing but a cash cow once built (all revenue, after maintenance costs, able to go into the budget as profit)... then make the official announcement. You're ready.

If, however, you're looking at needing to secure loans based on revenue projections that stem from a huge attendance increase, full sales of new luxury suites, an unsecured naming rights deal that's equal to what Bohn has been looking for the past few years without success, great profitability from the RMS and increased season tix sales by moving it to campus (not sure CU will agree to that), new revenue streams from events that are going to be held at the new stadium year-round, etc.... then you have debt to service based on projections/assumptions that may or may not come to pass. I would assume that the university would step up to pay the tab.

Except for what was spent to build it.

Now I know how people get sold on paying to install expensive "energy efficiency" systems for their homes that will save so much in electric bill that they'll pay for themselves in 100 years.

I own my own business. Why would I be more interested in advertising at the new stadium than I was at Hughes?

Oh, there's plenty of reasons to believe it won't. Like 100 years of CSU football for instance. The CSU athletic department is a poster child for how NOT to run a successful program. There are a lot more reasons to believe it won't work than there are reasons to believe it will.

For all the reasons allready stated in this and other threads I think a new stadium for CSU would fail massively and result in the school picking up the bill.

I think that would be bad for CSU, it would also be bad for CU. While we know that the CU athletic department is independent from public funding and the football program in fact pays the bills for the other sports and the opportunities those sports present, the general public does not know that, nor do they care.

The failure of the stadium at CSU to pay for itself and the resulting millions coming from non-athletic sources would do nothing but further embolden those who oppose athletics at CU, despite the situations being completely unrelated. We have to deal with enough garbage now without having little brother throw another heap on top.

I could even see a call from some out there to have CU athletics "assist" CSU in paying for their error. Before you think it couldn't happen think about why we have the contract with them that we do for the Rocky Mountain Beatdown series now.
