And it gave me a warm Fuzzy feeling. The offense actually looked a lot like our O in 2007. That O-line had all sorts of issues throughout the season, but was pretty talented, and had some young studs on it too. I think our talent on O next year will be comparable to that O, and we may have more talented RBs now than we did then (Marlon Barnes would have been a stud if he could have stayed healthy).

The D, at least through the 1st 3 qtrs was flying around making plays. the one thing that team had was speed, speed and more speed on defense. Sykes, Fred Jones, Navies, Wheeler, Kelly could all fly.

What a fun game to watch, CU made so many huge plays, opening kickoff returned for 93 yards, Wheeler's pick for 6 of a screen pass (looked just like Jimmy Smith's pick off of the knu play last year), a bomb to Stiggers and Chiv.

Oh, and Akili Smith was awful, and it should have been a warning to the bungles. Absolutely terrible.

Was that the Aloha Bowl with the horrible locker room scene where Slick is imploring guys to "say Merry Christmas with our headgears"? It's always fun to get a look inside the locker room for pre-game, but that was awful, with most guys just looking around or staring into space. Neu didn't seem to have their attention. Maybe it was like @ Mizzou and they lost their energy on the bus ride over...

found this text on the cubuffs.com DVD store.

"Just Becuase your DVD isn't listed, doesn't mean it's not available! Due to the number of games and highlight packages in the BuffVision library, we are unable to post all of our titles here at the DVD Store. If you don't see a certain DVD, and you would still like to get your hands on it, please send an email to the BuffVision Help Desk at BuffVisionHelp@gmail.com or call 303-492-8051."

Just got confirmation from BuffsVision library - all of the games listed are BuffVision "productions," in other words sideline/endzone camera angles w/ KOA audio. They did say that they are working on an arrangement with TV networks to get access to televised games.

I'm pretty sure that was another Aloha Bowl, against Fresneck St. The game where Trent frakkin' Dilfer threw for about 50,000 yards.

That "wish them Merry Christmas with your headgear" line was the first thing that came to mind when I saw this thread title, though. My cousin and I watched that game together and still laugh about how utterly embarassing that line was... :sad1:

I have the game on DVD and "wish them merry christmas with your head gear" opens the game. Lame. Thank god for Ben Kelly taking the opening KO to the house, it helped me forget all about it.

98 was a weird team.. At times you thought the team was about to break out and then they would lay an egg against a Kansas or Missouri.. I thought the best games they played as a team that season were the two losses: the one against KjSU and at Nebraska.. But gosh, they struggled against San Diego State and Utah State and heck even Baylor when they needed Bledsoe to come in and complete a pass to win the game.... And that TTech game was awful even though we won.

The Aloha bowl performance was so surprising because they had trouble scoring points all year and bam, they score over 50 in that game.. Looking back now because of that performance in the bowl game I think they were overrated coming into the next year with a new coach, etc, etc.

That wasn't my Aloha Bowl ('93). Mac was still coach and I don't believe Neuheisel joined the staff until '94 anyway. That was Les Steckel or Elliot Uselack. Neither one of them would have done the "Merry Christmas with your headgear" schtick.

The headgears (yes, there was an s added to headgear) comment was from 1998. And Spiff memory is pretty good regarding the locker room as well.

Glad you picked up on the "s" because I thought it just added to the awkwardness of the moment. I thought it was especially weird because, from the beginning, Neu was hailed as this "players coach" and media whiz. What we saw in there was anything but.

You are absolutely correct, of course. Hard to believe the Fresneck game was THAT long ago now. I had it placed in the Neu era, which is why I thought the quote came from that game.

The guys who played in that game have got to be getting old now. Sad, really.... :smile2:
