Is there anyone who didn't make the team that surprised you? Anyone who is on the team that's surprising? One thing that I found interesting is that neither of the school's all-time leading scorers are on the team. I wonder how many schools would have that situation?

Shawn Vandiver deserved more love. Still, this ends up as a fantastic starting 5.

Harvey is the one that I'm most bummed about. I think he makes my five honestly as the school's only 2x All-American. But I can understand him not making the list because of the fact that no one here (DBT?) saw him play, and very little stats were kept from that era. Vandiver & Boyce surprised me. I thought they might sneak on.

I'd take this 5 against any of the old Big 8's all-time teams. KU would kick our ass, but we'd be in the mix for second-place.

mos def top half of the league....prolly have to put OU and maybe Mizzou as the #2's. though neither has the straight up star power as Billups. Way Tisdale was a dominant college player but a little undersized at his position in the NBA. also, always on crappy teams.

OU was my first thought too. K-State would be another contender IMO. Jo Jo White, Rolando Blackmon, Mitch Richmond, and their more recent mercenaries like Beasley.

Beasley would be Big XII....but Richmond and Blackmon would be a sick sick scoring combo. hard pressed to think who would play post positions for the KSU allstars. ironic they both played for the mavericks.

i think jo jo white played for KU.

the OU team would be really good but very little NBA star power. Tisdale was a double fig guy and led the Dream Team in rebounding IIRC (!). Mookie. Stacey King, dunno. Tim MCcallister was a good player for them in the 80's. skeeter henry? Najera is Big XII. with OU, depends who's coaching them as far as personnel after that. if it's Billy Tubbs, then it's his guys. if it's Sampson, you got a bunch of grinders and 60 point games instead of 100.

anyway interesting to think about, but this is a Buffs thread. carry on my B&G brothers.

edit: alvin adams would be on the OU team. i never saw him play but he NBA rookie of the year and is ESPN classic in some super-overtime playoff game with the upstart Suns and a vintage Celtics team.

Beasely = brainfart on my part. I knew he was Big 12. I knew we were talking Big 8. And yet I still included him.

According to the CU Media Guide (Cliff Meely section, page 7), White was a Wildcat. So for some reason I ran with that, but you're right. He's a Beaker.

What about Blake griffen

Big XII. no doubt the OU team gets better there maybe with Blake and Hollis Price was a really really good college guard. if you want to go Big XII, KU is still prolly #1 but Texas is pretty tough with Aldrige, Durant, TJ Ford, Brandon Mouton helluva college player, etc.

CU has a number of players to be proud of. But I think it's a stretch to believe that an all-time CU all-star team would beat anyone from the Big 8 except for Nebraska. If I'm wrong, sell me. I'd love to be wrong. And I'm certainly not a Big 8 basketball historian.

you are just driving business here. advocatus diabolis. CU with Billups and Humphries could play with most teams from the 8. i think KU, MU, and OU are out. i think they are 1, 3, 2. ISU could be tough but like KSU....lotta scoring potential. most people don't know the alll-time single season Big 8 per game scorer was ISU's Jeff Grayer. 26 a game, nor even Manning or Tisdale got close to that.

avging 26 a game. everytime you score 18, you got a 34 game. that guy could play.

that Eustachy Fizer/ Cato/Tinsley should have beaten eventual champ MSU team that was Big XII i think. having a hard time coming up with great Big 8 players from OSU? Until Eddie Sutton came back from cheating at Kentucky.....they weren't good. he had two final four teams but i think they were both Big XII. BIg Country team may have been Big 8.
