Saw this from Kensler

Among the newcomers, Embree said Abron and Crowder are a bit ahead of Payne.

“The guy that has had a very good camp is Christian Powell,” Embree said of the true freshman. “He can run and catch. He’s physical. He came in here about 12 pounds lighter than he did in his recruiting trip. He’s a legit 235, ripped up. I mean, he can lift the world. He’s not stiff. He’s very athletic, real fluid, got good hips, can run and catch, run routes.

Just speculating - but I wouldn't be surprised to see Payne and Creer redshirt.

Won't Creer get a medical redshirt for last year? If so, then he plays this year I suspect. I liked what I saw in his limited carries last year before that nasty knee injury.

Good news about Crowder. Between the injury rehab and the lack of a senior season, he was a real question mark.

Because Creer's injury happened well into the season, he appears to not be eligible to use any sort of RED shirt for last year.

Speculating here, but believe Payne may have not had the coaching these other kids had. He may be getting a lot of new information and there's a lot to learn about assignments, pass blocking, route reads, etc. Should NOT be construed as not having what is needed to get there, just may not be as ready to play at this level yet.

I have a hard time believing he won't be eligible for a medical redshirt.

He would have already been granted a redshirt for last season if the conference and NCAA were going to be willing to grant a medical waiver and count it as a redshirt year. I'm not sure if they even applied since his injury happened too late in the season for him to be eligible under the rules. If he redshirts this year, then there would be a good case to be made after his 5 years are up for him getting a medical hardship waiver and a 6th year. Similarly, Jack Harris should get a 6th year if he wants one.
