Post Scrimmage Comments from Embree - Rivals

Thanks. Been super keen to watch/hear the reaction to the scrimmage.

Summary-Webb did play well, as well as other QBs. Daigh, Henderson, T Jones, DLine played well. 100 plays. Physical. No injuries!!!! Way better according to Embree than last year's scrimmage. Sounds like Mosley is playing very well and returned a K/O. Run game is "Night and day" compared to last year but more work to go.

Punting was very good-no opportunity for returns (although they didn't allow punt returns). Overall team depth is much better and attitude is better.

Sounds like there is room to be cautiously optimistic, despite our youth b/c our schedule is easier and our overall team quality is much improved (although we are young).

Decent interview. Lots of comments about how the team is better, better than last year, getting better. I hope he is right.
His indecisiveness when it came to field goal kicking was some pretty awful political speak. Not that I expected him to say anything to the media. I hope he has a good gut.

Great interview. Best part for me was his indirect bashing of Hawk and his staff when describing Will P's technique after seeing him for the first time....

After listening to this, (thanks Dio) I'm more optimistic about the team. When he said the QB's did well, I was hoping to hear a little about the play of the conerbacks. I'll assume what positions he didn't talk about are the areas that need more work.

I was thinking the same thing. Basically threw the entire Hawkins staff under the bus. Its a wonder we won any games.

That's gonna get old fast if he doesn't start winning more than the hawk did.

I'm worried about our running game. His comnens didn't exactly inspire much confidence there.

Disagree. He said it is very close.....or so I thought.

You guys have to be joking.

You watched a different vid than the rest of us! Embo was pretty clear that he was pleased with the run game. You don't praise the O-line, your #1 TB and state you're very close to the running game ID that you want, without being pleased with how things are shaking out. If he was not happy it would have been obvious.

Exactly, bitch.

bold. the question was "what range would you feel comfortable" (or some such thing) to send out the kicking team. meaning basically, can your kicker make it from 50 or 60 yards out?

lets say the first game of the year comes down to CU with the ball with 1:40 to play and CU has one TO and is down 2. embree is on the tape saying that he does not like his kickers at any more than 40 yards out....

changes the strateegery for the D. it also tells them about the chances of a 4th and inches at the 29 where the buffs may try and draw an offsides with a hard count at an earlier point in the game. you dont try the hard count, you have a 44 yard FG attempt. you are okay with that. but, you are on tape saying you dont like your kicker at 50? if you try and draw the D off and no TO's, its not going to work. you have to go for it or its now a 49 yard FG. may as well be 50. if i were the opposing coach, i would roll the dice on that and tell my kids to play for the fake count and them stuff the run because they cant make the FG.

he absolutly can not answer that question directly. unless he has a mason crosby going into his senior year. then he just calls them a dumbass and goes on to the next question.

he turned that question on its ear and did a nice job of it. personally, i just would have said, "I have no idea." and moved on.

Sounds like we should expect Bieniemy to take some big steps forward this season if the offense is coming along as well it sounds.

You have it right actually and I do not care if people think I am being overly harsh on this staff or not. I am putting a lot of pressure on EB this season. Time for him to step up and earn some of that sizable paycheck.

Sorry guys. This sounds like pretty much every preseason coach's interview I've seen since I started watching this stuff 6 years ago. At this point, I'm in a show-me mode.

Who were the old farts, the old man and lady, at the beginning of the interview? How come they got to be there, the old farts? No fair!

Good interview. Not a ton of info. The thing I took from it is that the physicality of the team is much better and their willingness to work hard is much better than last year. What he said about the running game is that it is much more physical. I was thinking that the fullback play may have had something to do with that. Did he mention receivers? I don't recall hearing much about our receivers. That is a concern.

I think the general consensus going into camp was WR was our biggest area of concern. Haven't heard anything to change that opinion.

If they want to be the running team they keep telling everyone about, might want to average more than 108 yds a game...200 would be a nice goal.

Seems to be more possession type guys than p-rich types. Hope the thomas duo can help, but you can thank kennedy's lack of recruiting also.

2nd time I've heard Embo flat out trash the old DL coach (Romeo Bandison).

That's completely fair. The position, more than any other, where players did not progress over their CU careers was DL. I can look at DBs and LBs who did very little their first 2 or 3 years and became excellent players as upperclassmen. At DL, it was the opposite. Guys who could play got tons of reps as freshmen and either didn't get better or actually got worse and we didn't hear from them their final season or two. Bandison was completely awful. He was a lazy recruiter, too.
