Went to a kick off classic(preseason high school) football game where my daughter is now a freshman. This is only the second time since I was in 8th grade that I am not playing for or coaching a team. I can't remember enjoying a game more.

I am really excited for the start of the Buffs season. My younger daughter and I went to Publix(think king snoopers but clean and nice) sporting CU shirts just to let the local gators, canes and noles that we are here.

This team will take some lumps and have some growing pains as the frosh gain experience. I'm gonna chug some koolade, but the first 3 games set up real nice for a much improved season. Like I mentioned in an earlier thread, speed and talent will make up for mistakes, and playing less talented teams early also helps.

A little momentum can go a long way for these guys, they gain some confidence and watch out. They may beat a better team or two. A bowl trip would make a great Christmas present.

It's weird. I know we are going to suck this year, but for the first time since the HaLk's 10-win prediction I am excited. I expect this team to be competitive in all but 2 games this year and show grit even in those 2 almost-guaranteed losses (to UO and USC).

I expect to still be in the game going into the 4th. I think we still lose quite a bit due to youth and lack of quality depth, but I'm not expecting a UCLA type of letdown this year where the team packs it in after the first 5 minutes to a non-stellar team. Loses should be within 10 instead of 20+ like last year.

This team needs to make a damn bowl game though and get the young guys more practices (18 with a bowl game right?). This team is going to need to develop chemistry to stand a chance in the upcoming years.

That said, if we lose to CSU I think I will give up all hope on Embree.

These two statement are incompatible - suck implies yet another losing record.

By the end of the season - I see us being an "average, up and coming team in the bottom tier of the Pac-12" in the nat'l media's eyes. No doubt we deserve the crap pub we're getting now, we haven't proved anything. It will be fun to make that UCLA grad on the preview show eat his words, especially when we mudhole UCLA in Boulder this year.

But in our Buff faithful eyes, by the end of the season I see us being elated with making the New Mexico Bowl and bringing a BCS bowl type crowd to Albuquerque as we start to turn the corner. I'm really hoping to see this season be like the Insight Bowl season back in 1999-2000.

NM, Mac lost the opener to csu in 86. I'm glad they didn't give up on him. That said, we bring a lot more to the table and should beat the lambs handily.

I like all the PAC-12 bowl choices, I would be pleased to go to any of these places as none of them are where I've ever spent much time. I hope we have the opportunity this season and I don't think it is unrealistic

If they make to a bowl game within the rocky mtn. region I might be deathly sick and need to take some time off to road trip it there

I was not yet a Buff but first heard of CU later that season when they beat NU.
You bring up a question. As a recruit, was CU always on your radar, or did they show, woo, and then you committed? Are recruits open to hearing people they may not be familiar with?

I knew nothing about CU other than the win over neb in 1986, recruited in 1987. I was focused on UGa., UVa, Duke(with Spurrier), Navy and East Carolina. But Oliver Lucas was a helluva salesman, he visited, my folks, then I visited CU and fell in love, then Mac and Lucas came to my house the evening I got back from ECU. Mac could win the moms, it wasn't even fair. Dad wanted me to go somewhere I could grow, like he did leaving Kansas for Florida State. You have favorites, but those can change as new information comes to light.

I disagree. If we win 6 and go to a bowl, it was because we beat Sacramento State. Counting on beating a team like that for bowl eligibility still sucks.

A bowl game will depend on the first four games IMO, not just Sac State. We really need to go 3-1 at the worst then beat ASU, UA, and Utah, which I think we will, maybe there's an upset in there.
