CU Upperclass Leadership

We don't get a chance to see what goes on at practice. I remember Hartigan as a bad ass motivator for the defense. Who is the voice and leader of the team these days? Polk? Major? Rippy? I don't see any clue as to who the players are that are leaders. Coaching aside, the effort wasn't there against CSU. Someone needs to step up from this team. As much as I hate to say it, a Tebow type statement is needed. The coaches obviously can't inspire this team. Who steps up? It might need to be a soph or frosh, someone needs to do it. I thought Polk was the obvious answer. Listening to the post game interviews on the KOA site, they all sounded like a bunch of excuses from pussies who were looking for someone else to solve the problem. That is the most troubling problem of all.

It doesn't excuse crapping all over themselves Saturday but I have been thinking this some myself.

This is a team with very few Seniors who even play and much fewer who play well enough to have any credibility if they do speak up.

The defense has a couple of guys who could do it. I think Polk has some quality leadership skills and although the defense played decently the whole game there was a big drop off when Polk left and it wasn't just in the guy taking his position in the line-up. Pericak is another senior who plays hard and well and could speak up. Don't know if he does much.

You usually look to your LBs for leadership and I know Rippy tries. Hard there though since he and Major are both battling just to get themselves back from their injury problems.

Offensively the void is huge. Kasa is the only senior who is a starter without a co-starter attached to him. He however is basically a rookie in his first year on offense and looked lost a few times out there Saturday. The other seniors are either back-ups or deeper on the depth chart. Not even a lot of jrs except Bak who seems like a quiet guy, Handler and Harris who each got their butts kicked on Saturday, and Webb who is busy being a QB and is new to the team.

I am still hopefull that Embree gets it figured out and turns the ship around. The leadership question among the players is a valid one as well as the fact that we had a lot of freshman and some green sophmores playing against guys who had two or three more years of college experience than they did. Even though our players were better athletes at almost every position CSU's players played smarter and more consistently hard than ours did.

It is Polk - which is why the defense went in the ****ter when he and Hendo went down.
