i think most folks are justifiably upset at the 0-2 start and the bad year last year. and, i think that the hawkins disaster after the shell-shock of the end of the gb era have left a real negative mark on our collective pysches.

it is clear from reading the boards that fan support for this staff is at a nadir.

still, i have a request and i point back to the TOS as well... please try to be constructive and level-headed in your posts.

pretty much everything that the staff says and does now is subject to intense negativity. i am not sure that is going to help anything. i share all the concerns and i think there are real problems to be addressed, but jumping on embree for the way he's handling this qb thing, for example, just strikes me as petty.

the level of discourse is never going to be great after an 0-2 start and this is especially true when you lose 2 games that you should basically never lose. but, i would ask everyone to try to temper the vitriol.

I have had season tickets for the better part of 18 years. I told my wife after we left Folsom on Saturday, I am giving this one more year. I love going to the games on a nice Saturday afternoon. What I don't like is watching us match a Sac. St. team yard for yard.

I was behind them bring Embree and his crew in here but obviously something is not clicking. I hate the player rotation that we are in both on offense and defense. How can a team run an 8 yard slant all day long and no adjustment is made. Nothing against Ebner but why is he in as our only wideout in a two te formation. Have Gerald Thomas in that role so at least you get the defense thinking there is a threat on the outside.

I think at this time you need to bring EB down onto the field. Embree has tried to keep his emotions in better check this year. I hate it, that's not who he is. This team has zero emotions out on the field. That emotion is then brought into the stands also. After CU went up 28-24. It was golf claps all around. I want the frenzy of Folsom back in the 90's brought back and I thought this crew was the crew to get it done.

Great points! Thanks.

Kudos for the use of the word "nadir". Positive enough?

I kinda miss that guy. I wish he would get back in the race this year....

And Liver makes a good point. As frustrated as I am with where the program is, and feel like the coaches may be in over their heads, the personal attacks on them kind of bug me. If there has ever been a staff that did not come to Boulder wanting to lose, it's these guys. They care. They're trying. That doesn't make them good coaches, but at least for me it's enough to keep me from having some kind of personal hatred for them (the way I may have for the last fool, for example...)

i agree with the OP. c'mon, no doubt this is an all-time low....i'm speechless about the last two weeks. but we are still Colorado.

we made some bad choices thinking we were only good by going back to the past to hire a staff. some asshole was going to hire Hawkins, turns out the coaching carousel made us that asshole.

here we are.

we have some TV revenue and it ain't over for us.

I would prefer to see us get schooled by a school like USC or Oregon as opposed to a Sacramento State type school when I am at Folsom.

are you speaking on behalf of 'Liver' or an Admin ?

I think the vitriol on this board has been pretty tame considering that we just lost to an FCS school (and a bad one), and an FCS equivalent - back to back.

The vitriol here is nothing like what I saw on the Husker boards during Callahan's last year.

People are expressing their opinions. But I don't think they are backed by hate. I see a lot of sadness. It seems the consensus is that Embree is liked and almost everyone wants him to succeed. It has just become painfully obvious, to some here, that it's not going to happen.

I get being a supportive fan. I am a 2004 CU grad and partially came to CU because I grew up a CU football fan.
I get coming out to games, buying merch/tickets, through thick or thin.
But how much are we expected to take?
Two losses since 2005 to FCS teams.
Soon-to-be seven straight losing seasons.
It just sucks...people are mad, and should be. Is it early to have a big thread on who our next coach will be? Maybe...but that's what we're reduced to.

... not asking anyone to be supportive or to not be upset...

just pointing out that subjecting every single thing that embree or any of the staff say or do to intense negative bashing is not going to help anything.

they want to win. i, too, really doubt whether they will be successful. but, not everything that they say or do needs the equivalent of "YOU HAVE TO BE KIDDING ME! THEY ARE INCOMPETENT!!!" level of response.

we appear to be headed to a very rough season and as the losses mount, it would be good if this place was not rendered a nuclear wasteland of craptastic Buff cannibalism.

I see what you are talking about. I had not read those threads before my post. I don't want to see this place devolve into the Pol forum either.

I think most people would like to think that we hold ourselves to a higher standard than the Nubs... I agree though. Most of the talk has been aimed at the staff's performance not them personally. I think that is completely reasonable banter for a site like this. Obviously most people who come here care far too much about football (myself definitely included). I think the majority of people in the world would argue that most talk online about football is petty.

we're one star mods, but we bring our lunch pails every day. we've got our horns out. we just need to work on the little things. this thing is going to pop. we're only about 3 posts away from greatness.

must. not. neg. rep....:argh:

I don't hate Embree personally it just bugs me that Webb got the starting job when wood was the forerunner in spring practice. If Kansas says to a kid your chances of starting are very slim ,why are we going to start him?

Can you recommended a site where such sentiments are welcomed and appropriate?

It seems clear that Embree to a degree is paying for the Hawkins years. There is no tolerance left for poor results. I don't think there is an easy answer to this. Patience may help, but how much? What is that "Kansas game point of no return" where the indignity of it all was even too much for administration to swallow? Losing to a team like Sacramento State brings us dangerously close to that point when you couple it with a CSU loss and what we have to look forward to for the rest of the season.

It is generally out of the fans hands anyway. All we get to do is gripe and hope. Maybe that privilege shouldn't be impinged upon too much because we really don't have much more than that - especially after the last 6+ seasons. I've forgotten what is like to truly gloat over having a great team.

Yeah, me too, but USC and Oregon only get to come here every other year. Sacramento State will come here every year to school us if we pay them enough. Sometimes you have to make a road trip if you want to see us get schooled by USC or Oregon.

great point, we need to get Bohn to alternate when USC and Oregon come here.

My give a **** meter is used up for this program until the admins show me they are serious about winning again. I laughed when we lost to Sac state while enjoying a nice day fishing in the mountains.

We used to play Nebraska and Oklahoma the same every year (home/home away/away). we changed that in the mid 80's. We should do the same with SC and Oregon.

at this point every school in the PAC looks like a powerhouse, so it probably doesn't matter.

Embree is suffering from poor PR that is entirely his fault. His decisions to close practices and scrimmages is understandable in these days of instant internet feedback but it's also a very dangerous game to play. It distances the people you need for support when the chips are down.

I expect good/great seasons from: USC, Oregon, Arizona, ASU, UCLA, Stanford.
I expect decent seasons from: OSU, UW, Wazzou, Cal, Utah.
I expect a disastrous season from: us.

^^This^^

I don't know if Embree is going to be successful or not, odds are heavily to the not side of things right now. That said I don't care which supposed miracle worker we had brought in or were to bring in today this team was in way to big a hole to be anything but terrible for at least a couple years. When Embree took over there was very little talent and not much leadership. Now there is virtually no leadership and while the talent has improved significantly most of it is very young and still needs development.

This doesn't excuse losing to an inferior CSU team and a much inferior Sac State team. Some changes need to be made very soon. Marshall needs to be freed up to pursue his "Dan Hawkins living of past success that may not have been mine" award. The OL is the most experienced unit and has been the most dissapointing and Marshall has also been a recruiting disaster. Brookhart is doing his best Riddler imitation with bad decisions on the special teams as well.

With all that it is clear that Embree does care and losing bothers him very much. He is learning on the run and may never catch up but he does deserve at least some of the patience that other new coaches normally get in similar situations. All our acid comments and negative twist to everything he does aren't going to help the situation.

I had expected this year to be the low point from the start. I had hoped that a weaker schedule and some enthusiasm could give us a much better year but I was way wrong. We are paying dearly for Hawkins getting the extra year with two classes of upperclassmen who are almost devoid of talent and leadership. While other teams are mostly upperclassmen with a few sophs and fewer freshman sprinkled in we are starting a majority of kids who would be on a bench developing in other programs.

It may be that the damage already done to this staffs era is to much to recover from. Will the kids listen to the message after losing to two teams that there is no excuse in normal circumstances to lose to. Will the focus and attention be even more lost as we get beat up week after week in conference.

I do know that even if Embree ends up failing and being replaced the next coach will find a much better situation that Embree had coming in. Our talent is virtually all young and at least composed of PAC level athletes instead of the band of slow midgets Hawkins left us. Even if he doesn't convince them to share it the players will have seen a coach who cared about winning instead of spouting a bunch of zen BS to cushion the losing. They will have an idea of what hard work is.
