Embree & Boys Earned Right to See this Season out Atleast

No more talk from me about canning them midseason. They actually outcoached Leach & Co. in the 2nd half. And I'll say Webb proved me wrong at the end too.

D stepped it up in the 2nd half. Several player stepped it up too.

Let's slow down on this kind of stuff.

It's a great day for us. But people are going to react to what they see on the field every week. The vast majority of us are fans of Embree and this staff. We all want so badly for them to succeed in a way we were never behind Hawkins or even Barnett. But it's a bottom line business.

Couldn't agree more nik. GREAT win today. Build on it moving forward. Anything can happen each week and trigger reactions are based off of one game.

I know in the heat of a crappy loss, which we will have many, I am going to feel like the staff needs to go. It's not like we should be happy with a 1 win season, ever.

All I am saying is I think they earned the right to finish the season with that victory. I say that because:
1.) We were actually competitive most of the game
2.) The Buffs showed heart coming back a few times from 14 plus point deficits
3.) The coaching staff actually outcoached WSU in the 2nd half on several occasions including that time Webb caught them in a switch-that was awesome
4.) We just one a Pac 12 game on the road, after a 55 point loss to Fresno.

That's enough to show me that Embree + Co. have potential to turn this around. Not that they will-time will tell-but I was waiting to see one demonstration that they have it in them to eventually turn around the program and today's come from behind win, and they way they played, on the road, suggests the potential is there.

If there is no more progress by the end of the season (with or without any more wins) than many of us will be back saying a change is needed. But let's let them prove to us on the field what they can do through the course of this season.

Well, at least that is my new plan anyway. We'll see if I can stick to it after some likely future embarrassments this season.

I'm good with giving them the rest of the season. Still not sold on a 3rd year, but good progress.

look, absent some really unforeseen events, the staff was going to get the year, win or lose, imho.

after the first 3 disasters, the question is how they would make a case for themselves in the last 9 to be retained for next year. this was a most excellent first step.

they earned this one, big-time.

a lot of likely heartache on the road ahead this year, but i'll take this win, right now, and enjoy it.

great job, coach.

I'm not sold or back on JE bandwagon. Good win, showed a lot of heart and a gritty effort to win the game. However, one game does not make the season, and thus far, those terrible coaching efforts during those first 3 games still have me questioning whether he can coach at this level. I'll shut up for now and enjoy the win, but I want to see this kind of effort the rest of season and maybe another couple of wins.

Congrats, GO BUFFS!

Wow how far has CU football fallen ? Hanging on our hat on a win vs the cougs?

Atleast with Hawkins it was a #3 Oklahoma.

Had we had another night where the team just didn't show up like we had in Fresno then you would have had to question the immediate future of this staff. I am surprised they did it but this game shows that at least for this week the players are still listening to the coaches and still believe that winning is possible.

After a win like this it will be easier for the coaches to keep the focus and attention of the team so improvement is certainly possible from here out. We still have a number of games on the schedule that no amount of effort, attitude, or coaching will help but this game shows that the coaches are still in charge. Now they can continue through the season and an evaluation can be made after the season is over.

did you also notice how many CU players were wanting to celebrate w/Embree after the last TD ?
I saw players who genuinely like to fight for their coach-

I say he has earned at least year three. McCartney's team won one game in 1984. He eventually turned it around.

I won't go that far just yet.
Wazzu is not a very good team and we may have witnessed CU's only win. I want to see how the team reacts to adversity the rest of the season.
USC and Oregon are going to beat the Buffs real bad. There will more lows than highs the remaining season. Lets see how things finish.

For those calling us flipfloppers, I think that is unfair. I was one calling for Embree's head because there was no progress on any front and it appeared we were literally going backwards as our youth was gaining experience.

Despite the fact that WSU is not a great team, we beat a Pac 12 team on the road, at a homecoming game, coming from behind with 3 TDs in short order, and really did outcoach Leach @ Co in 2nd half.

That was unexpected and changed my opinion-up until today-we had no real evidence this staff could coach on game day or get their team fired up, or have our team show resolve when their backs were up against the wall, etc.

Let's hope they can show some progress in other games on the schedule this year, regardless of the W/L

I think the challenge of keeping the players engaged is a lot easier after losing to Oregon/USC. Those games don't worry me much.

Did Embree and CU turn a corner? Or was that just a dead cat bounce?

Either way, its sweat relief to no longer be in a free fall.

Please let Fresno be the moment CU hit rock bottom and Wazzou the moment Embrees team turned this mofo around.

Given the way they played with fire and heart, I would have still been happy if we lost today but I do like the win.
Where I'm at now is I need JE to show me this was not just a flash in the pan. If we can bring the same level passion and resolve when we play Fucla (and the rest of the season) then I may get back on the JE wagon otherwise, I still think he's not the right guy.

With a win on the road behind them and a home crowd pushing the buffs forward, I think it should be a pretty competitive game next week.

Also, seeing Embree after the game was something i could not put in to words... Even if he doesnt make all the right calls, this guy bleeds for this program and that will be important to helping us get back on the right track in years to come.

I agree. I am happy that they won and we should not be negative this week. I don't think this win earns him the rest of the year, I think he should be given the year unless he does something morally wrong (highly doubtful) or creates a locker room that they can't keep him. I never liked the idea of a coach being fired after 2 years for wins and losses. The coach needs a few years to implement his players and system to get a fair shot.

Agree but they had to have this win. Had they gone out and worked that hard only to come home empty handed it would have been very easy to switch into why bother mode for a number of guys. It doesn't take many of those to kill everything the rest of them are doing.

This win gives them a clear illustration of the connection between what they do and the reward.

That is exactly what this win means to me.

C'mon Embree and Co. You showed us heart and a few flashes of talent, now lets focus this week for a pissed off fUCLA team. A win there and at least we know we are going in the right direction.

Agreed that psychologically this win is gigantically significant for our young team and will hopefully be a springboard for the rest of the season. I just don't have enough faith in JE (yet) that he will get the team to show up every week like they did yesterday. (but I'm hoping JE proves me to be just paranoid)
