Mid Season Review: Positives

Just had a thought that despite how ****** this year has been, is, and will continue to be, there have been a few positives to go with all those negatives. So I'm gonna try and list a few of the positives to go with all the negatives, thus far.

Positives:

Kasa - really coming on strong and developing into one hell of a player for us.

Other Te's: we've had guys make some plays for us here.

Development of the OL - weak positive, but it is getting better (of course, it was awful to start). Gives me hope for next year (hahahaahahaha, I'm gonna cry).

Vigo - wow, from almost off the team to a contributor (when healthy)

Kyle Washington - making plays, if undersized. We need him against the spread teams. too bad also injured.

Crawley's development - he's coming along nicely, even though he was terrible to start because he played so off of guys. had his best two games in the last two games. I really liked what he did against ASU.

Spruce - Guy is being forced to play out of position and doing good things; he's consistent.

Gerald Thomas. - Not being utilized as he should, but he's also showing that the game is slowing down for him. Gonna be a player for us.

All the frosh DL - Wow! What a class this is. All of those guys can play, and Tupou is a beast. If we can keep them, they will anchor our defense for a solid four years along the line.

Henderson - when healthy, he's back to being a solid pac12 starter. No soph drop off.

punt return coverage/kicking - punting is good, and the coverage is solid.

Parker Orms - he's stayed health and contributed, although he has disappeared at times.

Pow! - Nuff said.

Alex Wood at FB - nothing spectacular, but he has played solid.

Josh Ford - contributing when given a chance. Every time. GIVE MORE CHANCES!

Poston - still weak against the run, but turning into a decent DE when we all thought he was never going to contribute.

CUD - makes a play or 2 a game.

Pericak - wow, he's been our best player on D.

Nembot - shown flashes of potential, gotten invaluable game experience. Could be great down the road.

All in all, after looking through this list, there are not a lot of pure "positives" to take away. Way too many caveats. Nonetheless, there are positives!

On the meh (not positive, but not all that negative either) list:

Mosley - he's out there, but getting picked on and hasn't really made many plays. Hope it comes together for him soon... I can't take another year of terrel smith starting.

Tony Jones - had a few good plays, and one great play, but also has had a lot of bad ones. meh.

T. McCullough - does what he can. meh.

Crawley as returner - doesn't get a lot of chances, especially lately. Hasn't done anything terrible, but also hasn't done anything great. meh.

Anyways, what do you guys see? Anything I miss? Any disagreements?

I would say that Orms has been a tremendous disappointment because, to compensate for his athletic deficiencies, he should absolutely be a team leader... instead he makes freshman mistakes and does not demonstrate particularly "heady" play.

I would elevate Mosely to the positives group. He has gotten picked on a little, but has shown that he can makes play against the pass, run, and blitzing. He also shows more emotion than just about anyone else. I think he will be a starter next season and eventual team captain.

I would throw Brady Daigh into at least the Meh pile, as he has shown a knack for being around the ball and for being a right place/right time kind of guy.

oooh, should have put Brady Daigh in the positives pile. He's been solid and will be good for us. I knew I was forgetting someone!

Good points on Mosley.

As for parker, most of the "positives" thing comes from 2 things: staying healthy, and that WSU game. He was a baller in that game.

Orms gets way too much benefit of the doubt. He has not been good enough this season.

Great list. Mine isn't as exhaustive.

I see improvement in the following:
O line - had a great half against ASU
RB - I think Powell is the guy
Discipline - I see fewer turnovers and penalties than years past
Uzo and Pericek - badasses
Gerald Thomas - get him and PRich on the field with a functional QB and we could be respectable.
Kasa-fulfilling potential. Maybe his success will convince Parsons not to switch. Bad teams produce NFL draft choices.
Spruce-pretty good. Way better than McCullough IMO.

That's about all I got. If all the potential on the team played well at the same time, we could be pretty decent.

Go Buffs!!!

"Flashes of Potential"

I am not totally sure what the hell that even means, but it doesn't sound like a positive!!!

1. I guess it's a positive that we could be improving. We're seeing individual and subsequent team improvement.

2. A-Basin opens tomorrow

Mid Season Review: Colorado Football sucks donkey balls worse then they ever have in over 125 years of history.

Just lost 51-17 after a bye week at home during a primetime game, some think there has been improvement. This makes me sad. Very sad.

2012 recruiting class has been very positive. Best complete class I've seen here since early 2000's. Two key areas that are always hard to fill are DLine and DB. We got guys here in abundance. If the two WR grayshirts work out, this will be really good. Oline was thin, but that's one area I worry about less. Agree with just about everyone mentioned above and especially like that Poston, Vigo and a few others have come out of nowhere. Also have noted some guys like Moten are leaving it out there on special teams.

Exhibit A:

Participating in Colorado’s weekly media luncheon, Buffs junior safety Parker Orms was asked about the psyche of the team considering the 1-5 start.

“We have a lot of guys that are discouraged,” Orms replied. “But we have the coaches that are pushing us every week. … ‘Why did you come to Colorado? What does the fight song mean to you? What do those words, fight, fight (pause) fight, fight fight mean to you?’

“Some guys are going to get that. Some guys it’s going to go in one ear and out the other. They’re thinking about their future. I try to tell the freshmen that it goes fast. You never know if you’re going to play next season or when your career is going to end.

“The first half of the season didn’t go well,” Orms added. “But we have six more games left. You can either try to turn that around or you can just give up.”
This is his fourth year in the program - he needs to be more vocal and getting the younger guys to be thinking about the next snap, not the next season.

Good call on Moten. He's doing very well for us on special teams. Hope that translates into performance on the D. we need more guys to step up there... badly.
