Honestly, can Embree survive this season?

You don't go out and get beat like this and expect to keep your job, do you? Even the notsogreat triumverate of Benson, DiStephano and Bohn can't possibly keep this staff around after this, can they? This is damaged beyond repair. There's no way to come back from this. It can't be done. They're toast. Failures.

I said Embree could be on the hotseat this year if the team played like ass. No one thought that could happen, but yet he has made it so.

Embree is no Mike Reily. Even though he lost to Sac State this year he won't be contending for a division title next year. Time for him to be shown the door. Hopefully he leaves by his own accord. I'm not even going to tune into the UO game.

He will survive the season because the fans just don't care anymore. We're completely beaten down and don't have the energy to go blowing up Bohn's email or calling talk radio.

I am assuming you´re talking about the 2013 season and whether he should be given a fourth year because that´s when things popped under Mac?

Count on it. The only way he'd be gone is if a big donor said no more until something changes. Benson could give a **** about CU athletics, unless it impacts overall fundraising.

I am sad to say that I believe the triumvirate will keep Embree for year three.

Benson and DiStephano are culpable for putting Embree in this situation due to the decision to extend Hawkins into year 5. They are reluctant to act quickly. They are not going to take responsibly for the football disaster. It's more politically expedient to ignore, deny and disengage.

Regardless of the performance on the field, they are prone to chalk 2012 up as a rebuilding year. Their public comments do not indicate anything other than allowing Embree a chance to rebuild.

Remember that the Embree hire is a concession to the well healed Alumni that campaigned for Embree in the first place. DiStephano and Benson seem like the type of leaders who are comfortable making these alumni sleep in the bed they made. They are not going to, all of a sudden, become world class football supporters.

Benson and Phil don't really care, they would rather not deal with it.

They will probably force some changes in the assistants that will not result in any significant improvement but will provide an excuse to delay dealing with the HC job for at least another season.

Are you serious?

They aren't going to do anything about Embree until year four or five. Football is not important to CU, otherwise, they would not have gone the cheap and inexperienced route with Embree in the first place.

Besides, McCartney has not given them permission to do anything. He is praying on it.

trashing McCartney, easily the greatest coach in CU history??? F**k you - you are no Buff fan

again, Mac is part of the reason we are here today, and someone who wants us to keep Jon around.

Embo won't get axed at the end of the year, no matter what. He should, but he won't. BB and Dr. Phil could not care less. MB has about as much say in the matter as Ron Paul does in Congress....and yes, Mac bears some responsibility for this mess.

If they make a change after this season, they have to hire a coach who can pull excellent players on the strength of his name alone. Because we're in a viscious cycle where a coach interits a bad roster and has to make something happen immediately.

Rightly or wrongly, the mindset of Mike Bohn and most AD's is that a coach must be allowed to have his own kids in place. Mike Bohn, playing Devil's Advocate here, would argue that Embree had an abbreviated recruiting class his first year followed by a full class last year. Most here would argue that, regardless, the team shows little or no improvement.

For me, I was in my 40's last time we were relevant. I'll be at least in my 60's before we are relevant again. I think it is pathetic that long time fans can go a significant portion of our life span without having the pleasure of enjoying a competitive program. For younger fans, maybe it isn't as big an issue. But for older fans, it is a slap in the face.

Both Arizona schools are winning with first year head coaches and both lost NFL QBs.

mcartney is not absolved for his part in this issue

In hindsight, I think McCartney had the right idea. If he had been named head coach, he would of had more political capital to survive the tough times we have seen the past 2 years and probably would have helped with recruiting had the basic staff we have in place right now come with him under the HCIW concept.

I will admit his steadfast support of this disaster is a bit tough to swallow. They are screwing the pooch by trying to instill an NFL system with non-BCS players that cannot compete within the system. Really hard to watch.

Embree has two major strikes against him.

1. Losses to Sac State, CSU, and the historic loss to Fresno cannot be chalked up to simply rebuilding. That was poor coaching, and should NEVER happen.
2. College Athletics is all about the mighty dollar today, and keeping Embree will cost CU more than letting him go. If he stays next year, expect lost revenue from ticket/concession sales in the millions.

Of course this is all based on the season finishing out on the current trajectory: 1-11.

How do you compare the rosters they inherited to ours? Rodriguez, at least, has had major success at a BCS school.
You don't, they don't compare. I don't think anybody really expected a quick turnaround. But similarly you cannot compare the CU roster to CSU, Sac. St. Those were the two games that showed this staff has literally no idea how to win at the college level. The WCO is probably the very LAST type of O you try to run unless you have U$C level talent. KjSU has pretty moderate talent, runs a simple straight forward attack and their D actually tackles by using their arms. Simple, straight forward, fundamentally sound. Instead we have jokers spending all fall camp installing the WCO in a no-huddle style. First off, has anybody seen that? Second, if it has been used it clearly isn't worth a **** because it hasn't produced squat.

Good CFB coaches take what they have on the roster and build around that. Look at UA and ASU, better talent, but they clearly are not getting rolled, nor are they wetting the bed against clearly inferior talent. RR and T Graham have something going and are passing the test coaches must pass early in their tenures...beating lesser teams. Embo and staff are getting beat by lesser teams and getting absolutely rolled by everybody esle.

Both Arizona schools have more speed on their benches than we have on the entire roster. You can also argue that their back-up QBs are likely more effective than our starter Webb. Different situations.

That said, and I like Jon Embree, we aren't getting better at the things that our available talent should let us get better at.

Throw out W-L record. Nobody expected us to be close to USC or Oregon this year. What is alarming is losing to schools like Sac State, CSU, and getting bombed by Fresno. It is a problem having no coherent running game, not being able to kick-off, and having more give-aways than a sample booth in a Wal-mart store. The unit that is supposed to be our strongest with depth, talent, and experience, our OL has been an embarassment.

Recruiting has been inconsistent at best with some strong areas (DB, DL, and with Dillon and Sefu QB) but unexplainable in others like OL (where Colorado has had probably the best two years of prospects in history and we got zero) and LB plus the unexplainable failure of EB to bring in a gamechanging RB.

Adding to all this is a seeming unwillingness to recognize our weaknesses and try to address them instead of insisting on maintaining a course that is not only not working but getting worse.

Another thing I find very alarming is his demeanor on the sideline. From the opening whistle he is walking around sulking on the sideline shaking his head after almost every play. He comes across in a very negative light, and cannot possibly be giving his players and staff a good vibe to feed off of.

As many have already said, Embree will not be canned after this season. If Hawk wasn't fired after that 4th year when it was clear to everyone who paid an ounce of attention to our program that he should be fired, then what possible reason could anyone have for thinking Embree will be fired after only 2 years?

And before anyone brings up the buyout, IIRC the donors were ready to step up with Hawk's buyout but the pussy administration was too worried about "perception". So why would that part be any different now?

Two reasons. 1. Colorado isn't on capitol hill begging for a pittance in state funding like they were at that time. 2. The perception of how horrible Colorado is, far outweighs any taxpayer perception. Colorado is the joke of college football and everybody knows it.

And we weren't the joke of college football when Hawk was finishing up his 4th season?

As for the state funding part, that doesn't come along every year? (I honestly don't know)

Still not fully convinced Embree survives, even with worthless Benson and DiStefano. This is just an unprecedented abomination. 5 more beatdowns to go

How are all of you sucking Arizona's dick at this point we beat the **** out of them last year. Did we graduate all of our skill? Speed? Effort? Didnt Arizona lose a damn good QB? The difference is solely on our coaches vs thier coaching change at this point.
