If Embree stays, the coordinators stay too

If we keep Embree, we're stuck with one of two things:

1. The coordinators we already have

Or

2. New coordinators with NO D1 coordinator experience.

Seriously, would any established D1 coordinator come here next year?

You'd be taking a 1 year contract with a lame-duck/hot-seat head coach for a program that has had 7 straight losing seasons. I don't think anyone wants to live in Boulder (for one year) that badly.

The only way we get replacements for the coordinators is by giving yet another position coach his "chance" or by finding some D2 coordinator who is willing to give it a shot. And even then, for coaches in those situations, they would either have to be so "old" that they recognize that this may be their "last chance" to move up, or they would have to be marginal enough candidates that they know they aren't getting a chance to move up in a better situation anywhere else.

For better or worse, we're either stuck with the guys we have, or we'll hire some guys that look just like they did 2 years ago.

IF, and it's a big IF, we were willing to pay top dollar I'd bet that we could get an experienced coordinator in here. But, I have a hard time seeing CU pay an OC or DC more than Embree is currently making.

I doubt it if this is even really a possibility but there I think there is an outside chance JE could bring in a new DC next year who would be happy to be back. Again not like it is a strong possibility but IF he gets rid of Brown it has to be for someone with real experience. (No use throwing the last 2 years worth of growing pains away to try again. ) And I am guessing he might be able to reach out to someone like Gerry DiNardo, Gary Barnett, Mike Hankawitz or someone else who MAY have a soft spot for CU and willing to take a chance on it. But again maybe just a pipe dream here.

I really doubt GB would ever be employed by CU again. He's also pushing 65. I think the guy was a very good coach, but if I were him I would probably kick back and enjoy life with my radio/TV gig. I ran into him at a BB game last year, the guy looked good, I hope he is doing well.

Changing coordinators is usually a last gasp. The top guys aren't going into a situation where they are likely to be looking for a job in the next year or two. So forget Walker if he gets canned by NMSU. More likely it will have to be some young promising DC from a non-BCS school...and that is often a crap shoot.

You get what you pay for never rang truer than CU Football. Your donations friends have been well spent.

I think we will get the entire staff back again with, maybe, minor tweaks.

I'm sure that there are coordinators out there who are out of work right now and would be willing to take a job for a year rather than sit unemployed. I have no names off the top of my head, however.

Assistant coaches are used to moving around. Getting 250-300K for a coordinator position would attract decent candidates. The bigger hurdle is Embree's reach across the country.

My opinion - no decent coordinator is going to come to CU while it is the good ship Titanic. What sort of job security is there for a head coach that has a total of 4 wins in two seasons? None. And when the head coach goes, so do the corridinators more often than not. They could possibly bring someone in with the promise of potentiallly replacing Embree, but those 'coach in waiting' scenarios seldom work out for either party (See Dallas, Texas, etc.).

We are screwed, glued, and tattooed, unfortunately. Our fortunes lie with the undynamic duo.

I'll take GB in a heartbeat. Could at least get us back in the top 25.

I don't care who we bring in, it's gonna take time. We don't have much talent, some others could get better results sure. We are way down the ladder folks, be a huge rebuilding job for any head coaches or assistants.

if eb stays then he needs to really dumb down the offense to a wishbone, veer run or option attack. Do not have the talent to run a (pro style - if that is what we are doing?) faster way to rebuild with the lesser talent being dragged into this mess. Easier for a high school kid to get in and learn the system, especially with no outside/deep threat

bieniemy was given a 5-year contract and is one of the highest paid ocs in the conference...

Thank you Sir! May I have another?

The unfortunate problem now is that Embree is damaged goods. The team may be low on talent, but the repeated beat downs have made it more than a daunting challenge for this staff to recruit at a level that will dig us out of the hole. I just do not see them being able to get it done now. Whether it be this year or we waste another year letting him try, the entire staff is going to have to be let go. The Admin is going to have to pony up and demonstrate that CU wants to be compeitive and by this I mean committ to the facitilites and hire a legitimate head coach with credibility. Without the facilites, I do not believe you will get quality coaching candidates to consider CU anymore. There are just too many other places a quality Coach will be able to go where there is a culture to improve and win. This expirament with Embree is going to cost CU a lot in terms of dollars and time to be competiive again.

Embo and EB need to look around at what works in CFB. The WCO, or the pro style variations thereof don't work well in CFB. Most teams have some zone-read, spread the field type approaches. That is where CFB is going. Simplicity of design and multiple reps of a limited playbook with playmakers carries the day. Out scheming is damn hard to do with 20 hour a week practice limits.

If the pro style was going to work, Fat Charlie would still be at ND. In the limited places it does work you have superior talent (USC) or superior brain power (Stanford). Take a look around the Pac, only USC, Stanford and maybe UW and OSU have anything that looks like a WCO. Fully two thirds of the P12 incorporate spread concepts. JMO.

This!

I still think Embo and EB are good coaches and can get us there, but not the way they are trying to do it at the moment. Our talent just is not there, not even close. Problem is, if you don't win at least a couple of games a year and show some improvement you are never going to get anything better than average talent. Until then, they need to come up with a gimmick of some sort. Give us the option, wishbone, or whatever, but a pro-style or spread offense isn't going to work. The AirForce figured this out years ago and have made it work very well. If this gimmick offense takes off and gets us to a couple bowl games, recruits will see winners and want to be a part of it, then you can start to mold your offense around that talent.

Question is, what kind of "gimmick offense" could our guys pull off? I don't see a power running game coming from these guys, and then there is still the D which, well, yeah...

If they truly want to throw the ball I can tell you where a guy is that can show them how to do it, and run the no huttle like a surgeon. Go to Southlake Texas and hire Todd Dodge to cordinate the passing game. His Southlake HS teams are legend 48 of 49 wins, 5 - 5A titles, only loss was to Katy TX and Andy Dalton at QB. Coach Dodge went to UNT and could not get it done as head man at the college level, they were terrible, terrible on defense that is, but they could throw it like crazy. Hell when Mizzou recruited Chase Daniel from Southlake whose offense is it that Mizzou ran ? its sure as hell not Gary Pinkels, they got it from Dodge. Now Todd is a mad man, Mike Leach like in approach and I think you want to run it a little more then that, but the man can as they say here in TX "thow it"
