up 1,000 from last season. Toss in another 2.5k CUnit and we´ve almost reached last season´s average (7.8k) before they´ve tipped a single ball in 2012.

A couple more years like this one and football may be envious of those numbers...

This is great news. And only 2.5k students bought tix? It will be hard for opposing fans to get tix now

I'm mad I didn't move lower a few years ago. I'm row 18 and wish we were around row 6.

They still require students to buy football tickets to buy basketball tickets. A decent number of students spend the 15 or so dollars at the door.

So students have to buy GA tix now? No cheap walk up tix? Hmm. That could cause issues with attendance for some. **** um, get your tix or pay extra!

they can probably buy GA season tix for $85 or whatever it costs.

This. I think there is only about 2,000 seats (or fewer) actually available to them. They get sections 13-17, but half of one of those sections is the band.
Gonna be a busy season for the ushers kicking out all the students from the seats they aint supposed to be in .

Students are gonna be standing sideways like they were back in 2001-02 when we were good.

right now we are only at 70% capacity. I am hoping with the boost in season ticket sales and more students showing up we get close to 9k on average per season. While it would be nice to expand the keg, I am actually hoping they increase ticket prices instead. An average of a $50 price increase per tickets puts $450k to the program (used 9k seats). An average of $110 will bring in a million dollars to the program. I was actually expecting my tickets to go up from $150 to $250 this year, but I definitely think we will see an increase of $100 in the first 10 rows next year, $50 for the mid level seating and maybe $15 or so on the cheap seats. They have to build a nice fan base first and show there is a lot of value in those seats.

If they do that, I will gladly pay it and still consider it to be the best major sports entertainment value in the Rocky Mountain region.

for attendance, do they count the # of tickets, or the number of people through the door?

They make everyone go through a turn style (unless you enter through the practice facility) so I thought door. Or maybe Plati counts.

The capacity of the student section may only be 2500 but my understanding is that they typically sell about 10,000 student sports passes (which gives access to all CU games including basketball).

I must say that the notion of about 7,500 season tickets sold (public + student) prompted me to purchase a season ticket today. Don't want to be left out when it comes to Arizona, UCLA, etc. Total cost of $92.50. Excellent deal!

We just moved to the good seats next to the student sections, as there were always plenty of empties. I also had plenty of empty coors light cups as well. I remember paying only $2 for every game back then.

This is exactly where the marketing wing of the AD needs to go with it. Focus on the scarcity of tickets in their advertising and let people know that their best chance to see the Buffs take on UCLA and Arizona is to buy season tickets.

Wait! You mean that a quality team generates lots of increased revenue for the AD??? Quick call Benson, and PD and let them know about this unprecedented correlation!

My first of hopefully many seasons as a basketball season ticketholder! :dance4:

The success of the basketball team may be the biggest enemy of the football program. Tad was the third choice among the three finalists for the job. He was the cheapest, so he was hired. It turned out to be a brilliant hire. Hiring the cheapest guy and hoping he turns out to be one of the best coaches in the country is not a solid long term strategy for success.

That's not the sense I got from the hiring process at all. McClain would've equally as cheap. I have no feel for how costly a third option like Dunlap would've been.

If anything, Boyle was hired because of his pre-existing relationship with Bohn.

While that's probably true, it still would not work as a blueprint for hiring a football coach.

Plus, if our basketball team sucked, it would shine the light of upsetness more directly upon the football team. Don't get me wrong, I love the fact that we're selling season tickets like crazy, and will likely have a near full CEC for most games this year. That's great stuff and I'm not complaining. I do think that it's indirectly hurting the football program, though. I think there would be a more pronounced sense of urgency to fix the problems with the football team if the basketball team couldn't get out of it's own way.
