The legitimate reason that this staff needs to be let go.

"I don't know what the problem is."

That is the reason. I am reading comments from Embree, EB, and Brown where they have said that exact quote, and regularly. I'm sorry, if you are the responsible parties of the most visible multi-million dollar program at one of the major BCS programs, you BETTER have answers!

You simply cannot survive in the business world when your boss asks you what the problem is with your area of responsibility and you consistently just say "I don't know."

Embree and staff, I know you bleed black and gold, but please step down and let somebody who does know start rebuilding our beloved program.

This.

The comments from Brown in the Camera were disturbing. He admits to not knowing what to do. Plus, the same song and dance regarding how good they are in practice and awful on game day. Cabral needs to take over this defense for the remainder of this year.

Even if they don't know the answers, stepping out in public and willingly, eagerly, and openly stating they have no answers is the worst answer they could give. It shows very poor leadership. It does not inspire confidence. It shows that they are unqualified for their jobs.

Why would football players have an ounce of faith or belief in what the coaches are teaching when the coaches constantly answer questions "I don't know."

didn't want to get in trouble for posting on recruiting thread - was anyone listening to 850koa yesterday afternoon around 4:40? some recruits dad had called in and was answering some questions...said him and his kids made the rounds locally - Air Force, CU, csu and Wyo... said he was not impressed and did not like "the feeling from the staff in Boulder"...that is worrisome !! what can these coaches do??

Because the LBs have been such a bright spot?

I say promote Tui in hopes that will help us keep him.

I don't like reading this. If they can't recruit then what can they do?

If the "feeling from the staff" is not good, then it is definitely time to go in a different direction. I have all the confidence in the world that Benson, Distephano and Bohn will all huddle together and decide to keep this staff anyway.

Oorrrrr, they DO believe that they know what the problems are, but are unwilling to state them publicly. Ever think that they provide a much different response to this question internally then they do publicly?

So, you are saying it is ok to publicly lie? I've seen these Tuesday press conferences and interviews. I don't think they are lying when they say they don't know what the problem is. These guys have that deer in the headlight look.

This is a public position, and these guys are accountable to communicate why we are seeing, literally, the worst football being played in 130 years of Colorado Football history. I saw Jeremy Bloom explaining at halftime of the USC game what the issue was (man coverage vs zone). Yet the coaches don't also see this issue? That is a very serious problem.

Yeah, Jeremy Bloom is the expert (I love Jeremy BTW). The product on the field is not good enough, period. That being said, this staff does have class, and they are not going to say anything publicly that could be misconstrued as throwing the players, under the bus, or shirking responsibility. The coaching needs to improve, but this team is full of two kinds of kids 1) those that are used to losing and maintain a losers mentality, and 2) kids that are so young and green that they have no idea what is what yet. This staff needs to be very careful of how much blame they place on the players directly because half don't deserve it.

Call it lying if you want, but that is naive IMO

It seems to me like the staff hasn't accepted much responsibility at all in this fiasco and they still default to youth, inexperience and lack of execution when asked about the problems. Now that other teams with new coaches like Davies at UNM are winning with way less talent they've just resorted to, "I don't know". I fully believe this joke of a staff "doesn't know" and are clueless.

Why should they say anything? Everything they say is used against them. The Internet boards are in full feeding-frenzy mode for this staff. I think they have held up well considering everything.

Actually my reference to Bloom was to highlight the sheer stupidity we are seeing. We are lining up true freshman against the most talented wide receivers in college football and asking them to play man coverage with no safety support. Are you kidding me??? A monkey could figure out that that is a bad idea.

Or, they were supposed to check to a different coverage, and didn't get the call made, or communicated because they made a mistake...happens ALL the time, especially with young players.

The fallacy that the product seen on the field is a direct result of idiotic play calls made by coaches is ridiculous. Say whatever you want about Brown...but go reread his resume first. He has been a coach FOREVER at a high level, and he has produced at many places. All of a sudden, he is completely incapable of figuring out that he has mismatches? Maybe he had a huge head injury before he arrived back at CU, and that explains why he is all of a sudden stupid.

Edit: Another thing to think about here....we are also lining up true freshman DL against some of the most talented offensive lineman in the country. Should we give them safety support in the box to support the run if we think USC's gonna run? Here is the crux of the issue. Barkley is one of the BEST in the country, we had no chance of disguising coverages against him with such a young secondary (it takes experience to be able to effectively disguise coverages)...so he could check to a pass if it was man to man, or run it if we are in zone. Add this to relying on the secondary to make all of the right checks and pre snap adjustments before the play starts.

The results on the field indicate their public comments (i.e. "I don't know") are pretty much right on the money.

I have read Brown's resume. Nowhere does it indicate he is qualified to be a DC at this level.

He is a lifetime defensive coach, specifically in the secondary. He is as qualified to be a defensive coordinator as Bieniemy was to be an offensive coordinator, and in that same vein, they are both just as qualified as Embree is to be a head coach. i.e. not very qualified at all.

Greg Brown has been a good coach for a lot of teams. He was a very good defensive back coach for the Buffs back in the early 1990's. He did a nice job with the defensive backfield when he was coaching for Dan Hawkins a few years ago. He has been in the NFL for a number of years - always working as an assistant coach. He worked in San Diego and Tennessee, and Atlanta.

Some people are just better assistant coaches than coordinators, just like some people are better as a coordinator than a head coach.

I remember seeing Greg Brown run onto the field after halftime once. This was in his short stent with Hawkins. He had no belt and looked really dissheveled. I was like, "This guy is a professional coach?" Now, I admit, he has looked better in that regard this year.

After reading the thread title again : 1) Getting smoked like a bong in a frat house, every Saturday. 2) Recruiting not doing so well this season. 3) No improvement week in week out. 4) No identity on offense or defense.

So what you're saying is that we just need to cinch a few things up?

Yeah, no ****. We practice against ourselves, of course we look good in practice. That's like saying your kid beat up a 2nd grader but I can't understand why he got worked over by Mike Tyson.

Bolded for truth. End of experiment. Coach the secondary and move someone else into coordinator role.

Actually, I'd say that Brown was the most qualified of the 3.

He'd actually been a co-DC at Arizona for a year. That trumps any coordinator experience on either Embo or EB's backgrounds.

Waiting list: Army (1-6); Auburn (1-6); Buffalo (1-6); Boston College (1-6); Colorado (1-6); Colorado State (1-6); Hawaii (1-5); Kentucky (1-7); Memphis (1-6); Tulane (1-6); UAB (1-6);
The above teams are on the waiting list to get into the Bottom 10. When you are in the same company as CSU and Tulane, you really, really suck!

Maybe they are great in practice because the talent on the other side of the ball isn't any good either. Just a thought.
