Why Dave Logan haters are stupid

Walt Weiss has been coaching at Regis for ONE year and he is interviewing for a major league job.

Weiss had a cup of coffee in O'Dowd's office which is unrelated to being a coach whatsoever.

Meanwhile, Logan has coached at a premier HS program, and played in the NFL as well as a stellar career at CU.

People here treat it like some preposterous idea that Logan could be a head coach in the NCAA.

It's not as if he didn't play high level college football, and certainly he has more experience running a program than Embree - who has been a disaster.

what the hell?

That's because it IS a preposterous idea. Preposterous, ridiculous, absurd, nonsensical... choose your adjective.

It's not a preposturous idea that he could be a head coach in the NCAA. It is a preposturous idea that he could go directly from a high school coaching position to a head coaching position at a BCS school without a second of experience as a BCS-level coordinator or head coach. There is a remote chance that he might succeed. However, CU is in no position - especially now that we see how well hiring coordinators and head coaches with no BCS experience works - to be training another greenhorn. The Dave Logan "hate", or most of it anyway, is not directed at him personally, but at his resume. If he truly wants to be a BCS level head coach (and my 2 cents is that he does not), he needs to put in the time working his way up the ladder. No more freebees with our head coaching position.

And, football and baseball are apples and oranges. Not even worthy of an explanation on that comparison.

Using a clueless organization's actions as proof that a group of "haters" are stupid is well... stupid.

Not sure your logic works on this one.

let's not engage the argument as if it needs to be argued against. Mockery and denigration is the preferred course here.

Goodness. IDK if Logan even wants the job, but, I would say he knows enough to be a CFB coach. The problem is not that DL can't do it, it is just there are better candidates hwo have, you know, actually coached BCS, or at least D1 CFB.

DL will be doing something he hasn't done before if he gets a CFB gig, so you can be assured there will be OJT. IF CU was going to can Embo (which won't happen this year, or probably next), why not go after a known quantity like James Franklin, Sonny Dykes or Gene Chizik? I have no idea if any of those guys would wnat to come to CU or not but it seems to me a guy who has experieince is a better bet than an unproved HS coach, even if he is as talented as DL.

Wow, it took a lot longer than I thought to get our first Dave Logan for HC thread but I knew it was a matter of time.

Coaching pro baseball and BCS football are practically the same thing so I'm sure this will work.

Didn't CU hire an unqualified former star player before? I thought I remember us doing that, but can't remember how that turned out.

Gerry Faust at Notre Dame.

I would have no problem with Logan if he had experience as a HC at a minimum of FCS level or coordinator experience at BCS level. As intelligent as he may be HS isn't the same.

Walt Weiss is a different thing in that he is much more recently in MLB and baseball is much different that football in the decision load and types.

If you want a guy with Colorado High School football coaching experience why not look to Mick McCall. Won two state championships with Mullen 10-12 years ago and then made his way through the college ranks and got the experience needed to coach at the college level.

He is now the OC at Northwestern, a team that has had a pretty good offense since he has been there, and Colorado ties.

That is how you make the move from High School to College. Put the Logan BS to rest!

I say we combine the best of all worlds and hire Tom McCartney as the new HC at CU. Dude has coached at Fairview for over 15 years, and look, he's a McCartney! What could possibly go wrong?

I think some market research is in order.

JDBattleMC,

Here is your assignment, if you choose to accept it.

On http://www.coacheshotseat.com/ you will find the list of the 10 college coaches widely believed to be in the most danger of losing their jobs after this season.

They are:

  1. Frank Spaziani (Boston College)
  2. Gene Chizik (Auburn)
  3. Derek Dooley (Tennessee)
  4. Joker Phillips (Kentucky)
  5. Jeff Tedford (Cal)
  6. Charlie Weis (Kansas)
  7. Kevin Wilson (Indiana)
  8. Dan Enos (C. Michigan)
  9. Skip Holtz (USF)
  10. Rich Ellerson (Army)

Go to a message board for each of these 10 programs. Join up. Start a thread profiling Dave Logan and stating your case for why he should be that school's selection as its next head football coach.

To give you a hand, here is Logan's wiki page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dave_Logan_(American_football). Feel free to add your own insights and opinions as you have in this thread.

Then, after these threads have run their course, please report back to us on how these fans were excited about the prospect of Dave Logan and how he has now become a hot commodity for an NCAA D1 HC job.

I suggest this because surely you wouldn't, given the current state of affairs, suggest a head coach based largely on his ties to the program and his personal network within the state of Colorado.

Boy, I'd take Chizik or Holtz off that list at CU. If Chizik ran the show, CU might not be a world beater, but the D would not be giving up over a quarter mile every game...Holtz probably wouldn't venture this far west, but USF has been pretty good over the years. SOme may say that was the dude who smacked his player who came before Holtz, but I can dream I suppose.

Chizik is an interesting case, don't know why it has fallen apart at Auburn.

I have no interest at all in Holzt. If he were our coach we would end up wissh Schlou schlobberinng all ober ur bwoadcwast evewy sweek.

At this point I'd be excited about Tedford and complaining about only wining 6-7 games a year despite top talent.

Walt Weiss is a different thing in that he is much more recently in MLB and baseball is much different that football in the decision load and types.

Faust played at Dayton during the leather helmet era. He then coached at Notre Dame in the 80s, after running a style in HS that was not anathema to what college kids were doing.

Meanwhile, Logan played at a high level college (Unlike Dayton) playing Big-8 football, then PLAYED IN THE NFL. Then he coached a pro-style system at the HS level which is directly applicable to what many successful college programs do.

While I agree that baseball manager is not directly analogous to college football coach, I do NOT think that high level HS coach is that markedly different from running a BCS program.

If you want a guy with Colorado High School football coaching experience why not look to Mick McCall. Won two state championships with Mullen 10-12 years ago and then made his way through the college ranks and got the experience needed to coach at the college level.

Except that right now we couldn't get a B1G coordinator on the rise to come here. He will move to a program that is going someplace.

I say we combine the best of all worlds and hire Tom McCartney as the new HC at CU. Dude has coached at Fairview for over 15 years, and look, he's a McCartney! What could possibly go wrong?

He didn't play big time college football, he certainly didn't play in the NFL, and he hasn't won ****.

Does any other school in the country want to hire Logan? If not, why would we? That's how we got in the trouble we're in now.

Plus Creek is only 5-3 and out of the 5A top 10. F**k that.
