The thing I liked most about Embree...

when he was hired was his recognition of and desire to change the mentality of the players. Man, I really hope I'm wrong, but from the tidbits I've seen and read, they appear to be slipping back into that same mentality. Please, someone, tell me this is not the case.

I've heard that there's been improvement.

On the negative side, I have also heard that with all the emphasis on recruiting guys whose goals are to make the NFL coupled with the losing... that we've got an issue with selfishness on the team. Everyone's trying to get his.

I don't know what it is. There seems to be something fundementally wrong, for sure. Our talent isn't this bad. I suppose many will argue its all coaching. I just don't know. It looks like one big cluster****.

Jon really needs to change his demeanor on the sidelines though. The head shaking just portrays negativity in my opinion.

I understand getting your ass kicked every weekend may have something to do with this but it drives me nuts.

That's easier said than done. I don't know what you do when you get blown out every week. If he were projectign a positive image, folks would be blasting him for that. Just look at Shaggy tearing Mack Brown apart for "clapping" and having a positive/encouraging demeanor on the sidelines. It just comes down to winning.

I agree and have been noticing the same thing (SINCE LAST YEAR)...If you look when he does it also... There are about a half a dozen Buffs watching him like< WTF?

That's what I've thought all along. They are young, but adequately coached we should make more of these actual games, not who can pad their O stats - at least with the likes of ASU and UCLA. Even with Oregon...a decent, mid-level BCS school should never have 70 hung on them.

Leadership and maturity have to be developed. You don't know how many times Barnett use to talk about this (Mac does also). You need a critical mass and you also have to have some playmakers leading - we lack playmakers. I think it is changing but it is a complex dynamic.

The demeanor on the sideline is a Red Herring, IMO. Everyone got tired of Hawkins clapping and seeming oblivious to what was actually happening. Embree is on the sideline dying a little bit each game, if he looked happy then I would be pi$$ed. Watch Les Miles on the sideline or Steve Spurrier. I have no problem with Embree's sideline demeanor.

I think we won 2 games we whouldn't have least season based on raw emotion. End the end, that'll only get you so far.

Embree's demeanor is that of utter confusion and dissaray. The guy looks lost and clueless. He is clearly a tight ends coach in way over his head. And yes we are way down on talent each saturday compared to our opponents but he does some things to bring this on himself. Jordan Webb is not the guy to be behind center! That was clear weeks ago, give the back up a try, it cannot be any worse. I haven't missed a Washington homegame this year including Saturday's thriller over Oregon State, Sark took tons of heat for 3 straight losses, nevermind that it was against Oregon at Oregon, USC and At Arizona but the guy took heat, what did he do? He went back to basics this week in practice made some gameplan changes and came out with a gameplan to RUN the ball, yes run the ball behind 3 back up O-lineman and he stuck with it. Look what happened? Huge win. I would die for a coach like Sark right now, I have always said firing Barney was a mistake and to this day I still shake my head at thaty move. I don't even know what to say anymore. Ugh.

What ifs are a double edged sword. If we won the first 2 games this year, Embree would not be on the hot seat at all. People expected us to be about 3-5 around this time and blow out losses could be excused, especially if we picked up a game or 2 after Stanford and finished 4-8 or 5-7. If that were the case, we would not lose any recruits and we could go to others saying "see, we are turning this thing around".

I suspect if we get the right HC-OC-DCs, we can turn this thing around pretty quickly next year. I look to Rhoades at ISU...one year of good coaching and they are relevant.

Personally, I love his record. I think he is trying real hard and needs more time. That's got to count for something. CU is a dumpster fire now, and it's going to take a lot of money, and support to get this turned around, and let's be real. CU doesn't have a great history when it comes to race relations, right?

As much as I hate agreeing with BC90, if Embo had simply prepared his team to beat CSU and Sac. St., very few would be on his case. You will never convince me those two games were anything but gimmes and Embo simply could not get his team ready to beat a MWC cellar dweller and a D 1 aa team, simply inexcusable.

Has OU stopped scoring yet?

Great post. I espeically agree with your Barney comment.

Watch the Husker coach on the sidelines. Would you want that? He's an embarrassment. Dude is in defcon 5 as a permanent state.

In the end, it's all about winning and there is more than one way to skin a cat. Calm and cool guys win, just the same as guys that show a lot of emotion.

I'd rather have Bo's demeanor than Embree's. Embree's body language is absolutely horrific. I've never seen worse from a head coach. He's a little bit John McEnroe and a little bit Eeyore. It's easy to do the jumping butt slap thing after we go up 7-0, but he should be coaching up our guys from first snap to the last, and it seems like he stops once we're down 14-0. We need to see the same intensity, teaching, and atta-boys no matter what the score is.

I hear you. It's a personal preference, but your comment about McEnroe says a lot. The dude was mopey and annoying, but was one of the greatest tennis players of all time. Borg is also on that list and has the exact opposote demeanor.

Jesus, people. Do you also judge people's personality based on how they act at a funeral? When we are winning Embree has a great demeanor and in itself makes you wish you could see it more often.

chest bumping the players after the last touchdown in the wsu game...that's about all I have on him, that I am liking

I have to say, I never have paid attention to him on the sideline.

I disagree, I think when we do something right, which is very rare he looks Bush league. Act like you have been there before, show some emotion but act like you expect it and move on. The chest bumping with his 6 inch vertical leap look ridiculous.

Agree. His post game interview after the WSU win was embarrassing. I don't see how people can get upset at the STUDENTS rushing the field but not mind when our gd head coach looks like he just pitched a no hitter in game 7 of the world series after squeaking out a win vs Washington Freaking State.

Intangibles like, grit, toughness, heart and hustle mean nothing. I give two ****s about the ethos of a coach. Two things matter the skill of the player and the coach's ability to execute games. I understand most sports fans like projecting their identities and beliefs onto the teams they follow, but the only thing that matters is winning.

I do think teams take on the personality of the coach, in most cases. Saying that, look at what we have going on.
