Powell

I noticed Powell had like 121 yards on 20 carries. Sounds like the O line and RB are getting in sync.

Anyone see the game/debacle? How did they look?

Powell is a good back. You could tell that the Oregon players didn't like having to hit him in the hole. He's a great piece to build off of for the future. The OL looked competent for the most part. Play calling is still frustrating for me. We have the slowest developing screens and bubbles in the country. I would rather just see us stick with what worked and pound the rock. Oregon is vulnerable against the run.

Is he really a RB long term or is this just making do with what we have? He was supposed to be a stud FB coming in, I have to believe he goes back to his natural position if we ever bring in a decent RB.

The issue is who else we have to complement him. He has been very good, but 20-25 carries a week with his bruising running style is not sustainable (he has already been dinged up). He needs help.

Are you thinking of a speed/homerun kind of back to complement him, or someone like Payne with a similar running style to step up and take some of those carries?

I'm really surprised that Josh Ford hasn't gotten much of a chance. I'd like to see what he does with 10 carries. Tony Jones is more of a pass catcher and I like him in that roll. Coming into the year I was looking forward to seeing Payne, but haven't heard anything. What's up with Creer?

Either one works. Pretty clear the coaches don't have a lot of faith in anyone other than Powell right now. Would hate to see him overworked.

None of this a knock on Powell either. One of the most physical runners in the conference.

Good point. I'm frustrated cuz we supposedly want to be a bruising running team, but only have one guy to do it. This coaching staff is...well...we all've said enough about them I think....

No we don't, or at least anymore.

What drives me nuts is that the running game was working but we only used it for one an a half series and then went back to slinging it around. Run damn ball EB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

1 bright spot out of how many recruits?? Thank you for coming to school here, almost went to nu... Hopefully it pays off for Powell, he deserves better. I also hope our staff doesn't get him beat up

Powell isn't the only bright spot in terms of recruits under this staff...

He committed to UCLA, I believe.

I would prefer to see him move in to the primary fullback role with maybe 10 carries a game. I'm not sure if that's the plan as guys like Payne develop or not but I think a rotation with a couple of big backs plus a fresh Powell every so often would be pretty exhausting to deal with defensively.

Do you all really F*CKING think we're going to get a decent complimentary back anytime soon. This thread REEKS with a NetBuffs stench. Let's be realistic here:
1) We might have a decent lightning to Powell's thunder already on the roster, but I'm not holding my breath.
2) We ain't getting one anytime soon with the season we're having and the type of offense (no scheme, no personality) we run.
3) Powell has proven he can tote the rock 20 times a game. Some people are acting like there are no other big backs in the country that do this due to the injury possibility.
4) Any player that has a chance to be the featured component in a college offense will jump at the chance. "Hey Christian, want us to build the O around you, get you 100+ a game and increase your chances to get to the League?". "Welllllll....." Yeah, right.
5) What a waste to move him back to FB. Regress to 5-7 touches a game? Get real.

Christian is now our TB for as long as he can go and as long as he wants to be. END OF STORY.

5-7 touches a game would be a LOT for a fullback.

I agree with Da Lama - he can handle 20 carries a game. Most programs that feature a power running game feed the ball to the RB a lot more than 20 times.

In my perfect offense and in the offense I thought Embree was creating when he came here: we'd be running the ball 70% of the time and using play action to gash defenses for big yards through the air. I'd like to see Pow get the ball 20-25 times a game and someone else like Abron, Jones or whoever steps up get 10-15 in a "change of pace" type of spot.

We obviously don't have a QB who can win games for us, so why the **** keep trying? Run the ball dammit!

Agree x 1000000!

Would much rather see 40+ rushes and -20 passes, than the current garbage offense.

I think we have one in Ford, and maybe Payne, who knows about him yet. Tough to evaluate the performance of Ford given the numbers/situations he gets game action in. I agree with most of what you say here but I think Powell has a chance to get to the league as a fullback and I'm not so sure as a running back. Then again, maybe Norgard will be a stud and we wont need Powell as a fb

 Cool opinion bro.

That's not the point. If he is rushing 20+ times a game than durability becomes a question (he has already missed time). We don't have quality backups behind Powell if he goes down which is the concern

So instead of playing our best back, we should depend on our depth which is lacking. HaLkins? Is that you!?

and to clarify, I want him to get a boatload of touches this year...I'm just hoping our situation will evolve to the point of us being able to move him in to more of a FB role

Watch most feature backs and compare them to Powell... who is taking more direct big hits?

I have no issue with proclaiming Powell the best back on the roster, he is. I do have an issue with the "Aw **** it, Powell can handle it" strategy.

Buffs nation is starting to resemble a post apocalyptic wasteland - kind of a crossover between Revolution (no power) and Walking Dead (zombie apocalypse) - with Buff fans devouring each other over scraps.

Running it 70% of the time will not work against most of our competition. I have witnessed open receivers on many of the passing plays that get thrunted. Also, Powell is great and should be our featured TB.
