Man, I remember thinking I wanted Paul Johnson. Proves how little I know. Him losing to Kansas a few years ago was just a disaster.

is it bad there is no one on that list i wouldnt take over Embo?

Sorry, Benson won't let this happen. Until benson and his point man distefano are gone, cu football will suck and they won't care.

Send tedford our way, I would take him in a heartbeat over Embree our Head Tight Ends Coach.

I know we're all frustrated with JE, but I'm not sure that I'd be thrilled with bringing in Tedford at this point. Probably a bit better and way more experienced, but his teams seem to underperform of late which is exactly what we're trying to stop doing.

He'd bring in a lot of talent. Tedford's a program architect who probably needs a change of scenery at this point.

Plus it beats bringing in a guy who a) is a first-time HC and b) doesn't know the Pac-12 territory

Tedford would have us making bowl games. That's a Buff fans dream at this point. Not my first choice, but would take him for sure. He'd be rejuvenated with a new job, yet also bring in lots of talent...along with knowing the Pac-12 extensively.

I don't dispute that a couple of years ago, and even now he'd represent an upgrade. And yes, he's had a knack for bringing in talented players (with a big assist from Tosh of course). So he would be a "safe" hire, I'll give you that. However, I still have reservations based on what he's done with some of the talented teams he's had over the years. If we're making a move at this point, I'd like to see us swing for more than a currently mediocre retread. Just my preference I guess. The guy currently on our staff that we poached from Cal maybe has me a bit gun shy.

He took over at Cal after they were about as ****** as we are now.

Obviously a lot of love for Tedford here. Based on my posts above on the subject, I'm still not personally sold on the guy, but I don't want to rain on anybody's parade, so I'll let it go with that.

I think your opinions are fair. I just think the chance we hire a Harbaugh type coach who takes us all the way back is unlikely. An interim guy like tedford to build us back to mediocre might be the way to go.

I wasn't a fan the first time nik mentioned him either, but the more I have thought about it the more he seems like a good idea. I'd love to underachieve to the tune of 6-7 wins a year at this point. Plus he'd leave the next guy loaded with talent and ready to move into the 8-10 win range.

maybe we can work a sign and trade with Cal.

We take tedford for three years so they dont have to buy him out. They take embo & staff and can fire/buy them out way cheaper than Tedford.

I like this. Hell, they could keep EB as RB coach and they'd probably be happy with it. It's not unlike a baseball trade where one team wants to unload a big contract and the other team just has to give them a minor piece or two.

Until I see a hell of a lot more smoke coming out of the admin, I refuse to believe the staff is getting fired this year and think this is a moot discussion. if I had to guess I'd say Brown and Marshall are gone, but that will be about it.
