I was mentioning how bad CU is right now to a coworker who asked how the game was this weekend. She commented (she doesn't really follow college football) about how she was surprised because as long as she could remember, Colorado typically had a good football team that people like to watch.

Just thought that this was worth sharing because our long term reputation is being destroyed along with the short term damage.
 
Everyone at my office and all of my friends know that I am a die hard CU football fan. They have stopped with the razzing and now just say how sorry they feel for me in that I am a fan of such a craptastic team. I just get pitty as nobody has the heart to tease me about my fandome.
 
i got to hang out with some usc, notre dame, and udub fans this weekend. it's funny how they perceive CU. more talk about CU never covering the huge spreads and it's easy money - we're so bad, than anything.... nobody gives a crap about our 1990 nat'l championship anymore.... all others see is a dumpster fire that keeps growing in intensity....
 
I was razed by a couple CSU-Pueblo fans this weekend. It was sad that I really couldn't offer any counterpoints to the program they've built. They honestly believe not only would they beat us, they'd cover any spread out there!
 
My office environment includes fans of the Sooners, A&M, Alabama, Oregon, Notre Dame, Missouri, Penn State, Longhorns, and CSU.

The discussion I had today was not on the subject of CU's self inflicted wounds, but the impact of CU's miserable play on the quality of NCAA football and the BCS. Poor play by the Buffs is bad for all of college football. Many sports fans might just turn the channel. Others might watch CU and decide that NCAA is a truely inferior product to the NFL and make a point to tune out.

Bad CU football is bad for the College Football brand. It devalues the value of the Pac12 Network. It opens the BCS and the major conferences up to controversy. There are dozens of colleges who care about football that are frozen out of a power conference. These schools would do anything to switch places with CU.

If Oregon wins out but gets bumped from the BCS title game in place of KState based on strength of schedule, then there will be lots of angry Pac 12 teams with buyers remorse. An historically poor CU team is an anchor and a liability to the conference members with legitimate mNC aspirations. Its not Oregon's fault CU sucks, yet it could be CU that makes the rest of the nation have to watch Granny Schneider instead of Chip Kelly.

nor should they... that history is meaningless to everyone but the players and fans... no recruits give a ****

Welcome to the world of multi billion dollar television network contracts.

Those millions of dollars that Uncle Larry negotiated comes from advertisers who want to place adds.

Do you think CU has helped or hurted these negotiations with DirecTV? What kind of advertiser is going to pay good money on ad placement during the second half of another lopsided CU buttkicking?

Inferior entertainment options are not money makers.

Well this is just the stupidest thing I have seen today. CU is not a historical anchor nor do they diminish the value of a conference. CU is historically one of the most televised teams in the country(top 15).... and its cause there is interest among fans. They also happened to win the Big 12 north 4 of 5 years in the early 2000's and won in 2001. So clearly they were not an anchor in the Big 12. And in case you missed it during the last decade of the Big 12 CU almost played for one national title. Also OU played for 4, Texas for 2(?) so clearly if CU was an anchor they were not holding much down. And if your point was that a poor CU team is an anchor to a conf team with nc aspirations then thats a huge dumb generalization. Every conf has a bad team every year... Even SEC has the Vanderbilt's and Auburns this year.

PS Oregon is not gonna get bumped out by Kstate based on SOS. Every computer has projected they will jump kstate if they beat USC, OSU, Stanford and win the conf championship. BUT if they do lose based on SOS maybe they should analzye why they scheduled ARKANSAS STATE AND TENNESSEE TECH!!!!!! Don't have the right to bitch about scheduling when you put that as your non-conference.

Colorado (11). Coach on the rocks: Jon Embree. Why: The Buffaloes took a chance on a very inexperienced coach and the result has been a 4-18 record, with this year's team far worse than last year's. Eleven years after playing in a BCS bowl, Colorado is the worst team in a big-six conference, being outscored by 30 points a game. How good is the job: Iffy. There is a spectacular campus to sell, but not enough in-state recruits to sell it to. And there aren't enough big-dollar donors willing to push Colorado forward in the facilities arms race.

I live in San Antonio now, and much like Denver, has many people who have been transplanted from all over the country. My office, believe it or not, has more people from SEC country than UT or aTm fans....the SEC people know nothing about CU. I mean, nothing...they didn't even know we had a CFB program. That is the perception from the "big boys" down south.

We are as irrelevant as can be.

Then they must be living under a rock. In the past 5 years Colorado played Georgia in two thrillers, and won one of them. They also played Bama and lost by 6 in the Independence Bowl. Those are two of the "big boys".

I understand what you're saying, but I don't believe it works that way because everyone involved--fans, TV executives, ad guys, etc.--knows that college football is a zero sum game. It's baked into their analysis. Every conference has their loser, the bottom-dweller. It's shocking when it's your team, but it's always someone. Look at the Charlotte Bobcats' record last year. It's just part of the deal. That's my take on it.

I believe Oregon was set to play KSU this year OOC but KSU backed-out....which one of those creampuffs was the replacement...
 
I travel College Football with work, coast to coast, and the national perception or comments are in two camps: (1) Laughter and snickers, with people muttering how happy the Pac-12 is at picking up a new perennial doormat, and (2) Laughter and snickers from Opponents fans - "Wish we were playine Embree's teams for his tenure pllus a few more years. CU Football has been kicked around for a while, and a while longer, too."

When i stumble across other CU fans, I can tell. They say nothing. They turn and walk away. They pretend to be busy - "Sorry, Mom's in a mining disaster and I have to take this phone call."

Heck, some of them hop from the table and say they'll pay the bill, then meet us outside. Talk about The Fantastic!
 
One of my good friends and current roommates went to Bowling Green in the MAC, and for a long time I was able to give him **** about his school and the MAC...and now karma has come around full circle and I find it increasingly impossible to defend CU when he takes shots at us...very embarrassing situation...
