CU Football in the Bruce Benson Era

Benson took over in March of 2008.

Football was coming off a bowl season and had pulled in a Top 25 recruiting class.

2008: 5-7
2009: 3-9
2010: 5-7
2011: 3-10
2012: 1-10
Total: 17-43

Look at that record since Benson became CU President.

This is not a coincidence.

Winning Percentage: 28%

Before Benson CU had been winning over 60% of its games for a 100+ year history.

I will go up there and fire him on Monday. Tell him to take Desteph with him.

How do we go about getting Gee back? Is he still at OSU? He seems to have some good football juju following him around.

What about CU prestige in that era?

Yeah, that's right. He sucks at that too.

Benson is a shallow root. Our problems don't stem from our failure to capitalize off an Independence Bowl bid and a marginal top 25 recruiting class. Neuheiseil (sp?) saw it and bailed. Gary Barnett resurected a Northwestern football program that couldn't beat Ceal Berry's basketball team in a game of horse to the Rose Bowl but couldn't clear all the hurdles that Boulder threw in front of him.

This cancer is in the lymph nodes and it was there well before Embree was hired.

This is not a coincidence.

During the period of football's slide into incompetence, the Anschutz Medical Campus and Fitzsimmons Life Science district goes through a $4.3 Billion rennovation, making it the largest medical related development project in the US.

CU Denver attracts $375 million in reasearch and teaching grants annually, and has eclipsed amounts raised at Boulder campus.

The Boulder campus is no longer the primary focus of CU's president and regents.

The results you get are a factor of what you emphasize.

2004: first CU medical center labs move to fitzsimmons campus
2005: Administrative offices approved to move from Boulder to Denver
2006: changes name to Anshutz Medical Campus (AMC) following $91m donation by Phil and Nancy
2007: $644 million 820,000 sq ft University of Colorado Hospital complex opened. Awarded $373 million in grants. Library opens.
2008: All CU Denver health sciences and colleges relocated to AMC. $170 million national institute of health awarded
2010: School of Pharmacy relocates to new building.
2011: $780,000 rebranding. Ralphie logo demoted for use with CU Boulder athletic department only.
2012: Medical Campus gains national attention in aftermath of Aurora theater massacre.
