Omni Classic for Women Tonight

Since I am in town for the Omni Classic and the Air Force game on Sunday, I thought I would start this thread.

Tonight CU will play the University of Texas-Corpus-Christi at 7:30 PM following San Diego State vs. Auburn. The winners face off Saturday for the championship game. I'm expecting CU to play San Diego State for the championship on Saturday. The head coach at San Diego State is Beth Burns who was an assistant under Coach Barry for five seasons before moving on to head coaching.

Thanks to Buffnik, I will be attending the men's game against Air Force tomorrow.

CU at the games!

:gobuffs:

SDSU up 24-11 early on Auburn.

And if you're sitting close to 'Nik on Sunday, be careful - if the AD/B4L crew hires snipers like they hire coaches, you may be in the danger zone.

No ****. I may need to increase to 3 tix so the people on either side can be in suits and sunglasses.

Solid 78-57 win.

Arielle with 16 & 8
Chucky started to get it going with 14 & 9
Sborov (AB's designated player to cheer for) went for 10 & 6

one may want to sit in an entirely different section from buffnik....for the rest of this season....

So I'm in big trouble sitting with him on Sunday?

This was a solid team effort. Tonight's game will be a very competitive game I believe. Beth Burns, a former CU assistant under Coach Barry, is an excellent team. SDSU is favored to win the WAC.

Arielle Roberson is very impressive in person, more so than on my computer screen. That kid has quite a future.

I think Lappe wanted to hold Meagan Malcolm-Peck out of the game due to back problems, but there came a point when her defense was needed in the second half. It worked and MPP didn't take any stupid clunker shots.

Arielle did something to her arm or shoulder during the game. She did go back in. Will have to see if it affects her game tonight.

I finally got to meet Chucky and the Wilson twins. I twitter with them and got to give all three hugs. Fun evening after a very nice lunch with BeBe.

I miss Boulder. I miss Boulder. This is my home.

Good win tonight

Yes good hard fought win with great defense! Jen Reese was big tonight. Hargis played solid on both ends of the court. She is surprising me a bit with her play so far. She still needs to get a little tougher and not have the ball taken away from her so easy but she has really improved.

Jeffery solid and starting to get back in to the swing. B-Wil should change her nickname to D-Wil. She is awesome on the defensive end of the court.

Roberson was frustrating me a bit. She made quite a few Freshman mistakes. Maybe its because she is a Freshman. But then you look up and she has 17 pts.edit; AND Tourney MVP!!! She is so good though that you can easily forgive the rookie mistakes. Man when she becomes more seasoned she is gonna be special!

The Buffs struggled early. I don't know if anyone else noticed but CU stopped struggling once MMP came in to the game. She isn't quite the scorer we had hoped she would be but she has a calming presents on the team right now. I think they trust her as a leader but also she is so good at all the little things.

Like the Mens team, a lot of room for growth but at least they are winning while they are learning!

This was a very good win that should look good on the resume at the end of the season.

Go Buffs!

SDSU is a good team with the coach I wanted after Ceal.

This was an important win for the season.

67-53 (I expect this one to be closer).

Here are the stats from Pac12.com

One thing I'm worried about is Kresl's 3pt shooting. Seems like she never picked it up since late last season.

She was money at midnight madness. Too good of a shooter for her to not pull out of it this season.

Yes, strange. I don't know if you were at the Basketball kickoff event but they had a three point contest. Then the Mens winner (Ski) went up against the womens winner (Kresl). Kresl was lights out and BEAT SKI! I thought that was a good sign but not turning out to be so far.

Maybe Huggins can come in and fill that role soon. She hit both of her 3's coming off the bench last night.

Yeah I was there. But doing well in casual contest doesn't translate into game performance directly.

She was pretty good in early last season though. So idk, just hope she could pick it up soon, better be before conference game. We need her outside shooting.

SDSU's only loss prior to tonight was to UCLA in the first game of the season by 14 points and CU beat them by 14 points tonight if we are looking for comparisons.

Arielle sure is consistent in the scoring department. She was the MVP of the tourney.

CU hosts Wyoming Wednesday night.

Yes, the team still has a lot of work to do, but it's early in the season. The biggest thing that is impressing me is how they play as a TEAM. The players seem to be happy to let the game come to them and not force it. B-Wil passed off a couple of times when she might have forced it if she didn't trust the players under the basket. I did notice both last night and tonight how the team reacted when MPP entered the game. Was happy Jen's injury didn't appear to be serious and she returned to the game.

I haven't seen the stats, but I know there were too many turnovers to please Coach Lappe.

Arielle Roberson is already a good player. By the time she leaves here, she will be a great player.

Andre was in the house along with mom and dad and a couple of little sisters. Andre and Arielle could be twins. Yet another set of twins on the basketball team.

I just realized that cu football is now below women's basketball on my enjoyment scale and maybe even trips to the dentist.

Two good games with the ladies holding down home court. Congrats to Arielle as MVP and Chucky for all-tourney team. It's so good to see the way this team has improved. They now have more talent and more depth than they have had in several years. Nice mid-range shot and fadeaway from Jen Reese; dogged defense from many; love the moves from Chucky and Arielle; this team is definitely not one dimensional with everyone contributing.

Please get better on your free throws Arielle. With as active as she is in the paint, she will be getting a lot of chances at the free throw line and there will come a game when making a higher percentage of them will be needed.

Looking forward: Wyoming will be a tough test for us. Illinois is beatable, even on the road. CSU and Denver both need to be "W's" before we have to face #7 Louisville

No doubt Wyo will be tough for the Buffs, even in Boulder. They always will play this game with a chip on their shoulder.

The Cowgirls are 4-0 with their closest victory 10 points over Seton Hall in the first round of the Pepperdine Thanksgiving Classic. The comparative score is with Idaho who Wyo beat badly in the first game of the season (86-53).

Wyoming recruits Colorado more than any other state, which means there will be a lot of support in the stands for them.

BTW, Arielle is the Pac-12 freshman of the week once again (I doubt this will be the last time).

I find it amazing that Arielle is the Pac 12 freshmen of the week for the second time in this young season. She has such incredible talent.
