Joel Klatt - Let's get real about him

Buffnik

Real name isn't Nik

We're talking about a QB who had like a 19-15 record as the starter at CU.

He loudly trumpets this era of CU football as though it was some kind of glory era that earns him a place beside the players from the early 1990s and the 2001 team.

During his senior year, he loudly defended Coach Barnett.

As soon as the season was over, he loudly went to the media blaming the NCAA for not protecting players (citing the UT game hit that likely reduced his IQ 30 points) and complained about how he and others are used by the big business of college sports without getting paid.

He also went on a rampage over Barnett being fired for mediocrity followed by nationally-televised blowouts and an image that was beyond recovery due to the scandal and GB regularly putting his foot in his mouth when speaking to the media about it.

Klatt then went into media himself, became the loudest voice criticizing the program, blaming Mike Bohn, and calling for Hawkins to be fired. This turned into him being the loudest voice lobbying for a true Buff to be hired and that this Buff needed to be Jon Embree or Eric Bieniemy (ideally with both on the staff).

After that plan resulted in what may have been the worst football season in the history of college football, a need for a complete staff and system overhaul, and recruiting that was no longer gaining any traction with prospects... Klatt has now become the loudest voice attacking Bohn and CU for deciding that Embree was not working out and a change was necessary.

Klatt has been a cancer for CU football and it's only going to get worse.

thinks a lot of him self, pussied out in the Texas game, won't shut up, average qb

Honestly don't think this is appropriate at all......everyone is entitled to their opinion and while AllBuffs may not agree with some of his opinions and the fact that he has a pulpit to voice them, attacking his character and calling him a "cancer" is just not right

Allbuffs has become just as big of a "bully pulpit" over the past 3 months than many others....if you disagree with the majority of crazies here you are ripped to shreds, just as I'm about to be :smile2:

Did allbuffs or buffnik start this thread? That's what I thought

Whenever my non-CU friends mention him, it's "CU started to go down hill when they started that Klatt guy".

Thats the objective reputation of Joel Klatt. He was as mediocre as it gets. The record shows it. Winning the Alamo Bowl against UTEP isn't what the CU tradition is about. Big 12 North "titles" aren't recognized as legit titles to anyone outside of CU. I could never stand this guy.

2003: 5-7 (3-5)
2004: 8-5 (4-4)
2005: 7-6 (5-3)

Thinks he's big **** because he beat CSU 42-35 and also won a Houston Bowl over UTEP.

Public figure who has decided to put himself out there in a very aggressive way. That opens him up for this.

So can Buffnik have an opinion about Klatt? Or is that only Klatt can have an opinion about Bohn? I'm confused about who can have an opinion. To be safe, we should ban opinions on Allbuffs, especially if a majority of people share the same opinion. Then it's a bully pulpit. Or is it Vox Populi.

This part about Allbuffs is just not true. All along there has been a constant that no matter your opinion, please make it known to the admin and request that they in turn start to support the program. Some, me included, thought that a move on the HC was necessary. Others voiced the opinion that the admin including bohn needed to go. There has not been any bashing of anyone that I know of for voicing their well laid out opinion espcially when it has been supported with facts.

I wish JK woulod just shut the hell up. He had a cup of coffee with the Lions and now he thinks he Ron Jaworski. Jaws has forgotten more football than JK knows.

His little vendetta to right the wrong that was done to Barnett is doing damage to the University he claims to support. Sit down and shut up JK. Go play some golf. I don't like Mike Bohn but I kind of wish he would throat punch JK.

Whenever I find myself getting angry with Klatt which is often I watch this:

And this:

Exactly. We rip Henderson, Ringo, etc - why should Klatt be exempt, just because he played at CU?

In Klatt's defense, the team's records during his years were the glory years compared to the past 7

What the **** are you talking about you ****ing moron?

Traditional worthless Allbuffs post....expected nothing less

Did allbuffs or buffnik start this thread? That's what I thought

Nik is as much a representative of "Allbuffs" collectively than anyone....if that were not true, the site would not have been pimping his plans as they were

Public figure who has decided to put himself out there in a very aggressive way. That opens him up for this.

Certainly opens him up to disagree with his opinions and the way he goes about them....but calling him names, saying his input to the program and as a QB was worthless, digging up old dirt about his Barnett opinions (which in hindsight are actually pretty correct) just don't sit right with me

Go **** yourself you ****ing Klatt lover.

Yep...love Love LOVE him

He certainly can...and so can I correct? Of course if you disagree with the majority on this site, you then receive more negative rep and "**** you" responses than most...which is where I came up with the "bully pulpit" verbiage...maybe not the best terminology, but again me immediately smacked for disagreeing with the undisputed king of allbuffs (don't worry, doesn't hurt my feelings :smile2:

As a friend of the family I really hate this thread but he is in the public light now and is using his position to try and influence CU. Arrghhhhh losing sucks.

JK has strong opinions. To the point that he does not listen at all to the other side. He needs to grow up a bit.

JK was a solid QB for us and I chose to remember him as such. Not this post-playing career crap.

I recognize shortbus was his OC and all, but his love affair with the guy has always made me question Joel's judgement.

I have mixed feelings about Klatt right now. I generally like listening to him and give him the same benefit of the doubt I give to every current and former Buff. I just think many of those ex players (Big Al is another) are too close to Embo to evaluate this situation objectively. They wanted JE and his staff to succeed so much that they were willing to overlook things that they never would have overlooked from Hawkins or any other outsider.

They're emotional right now (as Embo is) and are lashing out. Klatt was borderline unprofessional with his questions for Bohn in the press conference today.

I agree completely and as a rational objective fan can see right through that emotion and can empathize with it....but I'll choose not to attack him as the point of this thread seemed to be

Yeah, anyone going after Klatt should be doing the same with Big Al, who has a much stronger on-field resume. He's gonna be pissed on the radio this afternoon.

I choose to empathize with them. We all wanted Embo to succeed, but some realized that it wasn't going to happen sooner than others.

Hopefully Klatt has his media rights revoked so that he can't attend anymore of these.

You do understand that some of those posts were a parody of your statement that people who disagree with the collective are ripped to shreds, right?

If not, do you think it's possible that the entire joke is lost on you?

And also, is it possible in your mind that posters on Allbuffs reached similar conclusions without the groupthink phenomenon? Based on the product we witnessed, it was a pretty easy conclusion.

Rraalph,

I didn't actually call Klatt a name. I described his influence on the program as cancerous. I never said he was worthless as a player (or anything, for that matter). But I called out the fact that his self-aggrandizement of his accomplishes at CU is significantly overblown. He was an average QB on average teams. He presents himself and his teams as much more than that. I also laid out a history of him being loudly outspoken and clearly showing a pattern of behavior and loyalties.

And, yes, I am using AllBuffs as the soapbox for my thoughts. Just as others are free to do. That's part of why this site exists. And the day people here, like yourself, stop disagreeing with me, calling me out, or questioning things I say.... that is the day I'll quit AllBuffs. We need debate and I've been a bit uncomfortable with being out front on things or getting too much attention. I'm not AllBuffs. I'm one voice on AllBuffs which probably has more influence than it should. So, thank you.

P.S. The only thing I am dug in on in terms of my influence on the direction of AllBuffs is that the recruiting forum will not be a place to attack CU, CU coaches, CU players, or CU prospects as long as I'm involved. Anything else I consider fair game.
