Born: November 2nd, 1961 Lynwood, CA

Alma Mater: Fresno State 1983

COACHING CAREER

1987-1988 Fresno State, Volunteer Assistant
1989–1991 Calgary Stampeders Offensive Assistant
1992 Fresno State, QB Coach
1993–1997 Fresno State, QB Coach and OC
1998–2001 Oregon, OC/QB
2002–2012 California

Head Coaching Record: 82-57, winningest HC in Cal history
Bowls: 5-3

In his 11 seasons at the helm, Tedford established the Golden Bears as one of the elite football programs in the Pac-12 and lifted the team into the national discussion on a consistent basis. He led the Bears to tied for the third-most victories by a Pac-10 team over his first decade, final rankings among the nation's top 25 four times and spots among the top 10 at some point of five seasons.

Cal posted a school-record run of seven straight bowl appearances from 2003-09 and played in a bowl game eight times in his last 10 campaigns. The Bears were 5-3 in the postseason under Tedford, including a school-record string of four consecutive bowl wins from 2005-08, making him the only Cal mentor with more than two postseason victories. Cal also won enough games to be bowl eligible with a seven-victory season in his first campaign in 2002 but were ineligible for a bowl. In addition, the Bears put together a school-record-tying eight consecutive winning campaigns from 2002-09 and added a ninth in 10 seasons in 2011. Cal twice posted a school-record-tying 10 wins under Tedford, the sixth and seventh times in school history, in 2004 and 2006. Tedford posted a career record of 82-57 (.590) in a school-record 139 games at Cal, having set the school's win mark when he recorded the 75th victory of his career vs. Presbyterian at AT&T Park on Sept. 17, 2011. He is also the school's all-time leader for victories in road wins (26) and conference victories (50). To top it off, he was 7-4 in the Big Game, equaling Pappy Waldorf's school record of seven wins against Stanford.

Quarterbacks Coached

Fresno State

David Carr 1st overall 2002, Houston Texans

Oregon
Akili Smith 3rd overall 1999, Cincinnati Bengals
Joey Harrington 3rd overall 2002, Detroit Lions

California
Kyle Boller 19th overall 2003, Baltimore Ravens
Aaron Rodgers 24th overall 2005, Green Bay Packers

Running backs coached at Cal

2002: Joe Igber (1,130 yards)
2003: Adimchinobi Echemandu (1,195 yards)
2004: J. J. Arrington (2,018 yards)
2005: Marshawn Lynch (1,246 yards)
2006: Marshawn Lynch (1,356 yards)
2007: Justin Forsett (1,546 yards)
2008: Jahvid Best (1,580 yards)
2010: Shane Vereen (1,167 yards)
2011: Isi Sofele (1,322 yards)

Pros

- extensive HC experience
- took over Cal after 8 non winning seasons and turned them around, only having 2 losing seasons in 11 years as a HC
- strong West Coast and P12 ties, especially in California
- was at Cal during a time when they went through with a transformational facilities project
- just received a hefty buyout from Cal, so money may not be that big an issue

Cons

- might be burned out
- health?
- might want to take a year off to recharge his batteries

Not my top choice, but I could see Ted finding Boulder the perfect place to get rejuvenated and turn the Buffs into a consistent winner and bowl team. Assuming he assembled the right staff (aka NOT Steve Marshall), he would bring in solid talent and likely get us some excellent QB play. Despite his long tenure at Cal, he's only 51.

I'd be much more in favor of Tedford if this was next year and he was able to take a year off to recharge his batteries between coaching jobs.

You just can't get excited about this. The lack of winning at the highest level and inconsistency are all red flags. I'd be all for him as a coordinator, but you can't take the throwaway from a mid level PAC 12 team and think it may take you to the rose bowl

I feel like if we got him a couple of years ago it'd be great. His star has really fallen the last couple of years, though. They seemed to be doing really well (ranked #1 overall at some point I remember) and then Longshore appeared and everything went downhill from there.

seriously, this thread needs to be closed asap.

CU's plan is to hire a coach from the same conference that just got fired for not winning enough? really?

the idea of jeff tedford is just about as full retard you can go.

close the thread and ban all supporters of this idea. we do not want to give the AD any stupid ideas. lord knows they have had enough without our help.

I'm not going to be overjoyed if we were to hire Tedford, but you don't see why he's a decent candidate? He took over a mess at Cal and promptly turned them into a consistent 7-9 win school. The last couple of years he has fallen off for whatever reason. He's well known as a QB guru and his offenses are usually solid.

The similarities to CU are striking imo. He took over when they didn't have a winning season in like 8 years. The previous year they went 1-10. His first year they went 7-5. He recruits well, knows California obviously, knows the P12 well.

Not saying he's a perfect or he wouldn't be getting fired by Cal, but he's not Dave Logan as a candidate either.

and that is absolutely not what colorado needs at this point. perhaps if the timing were different i might agree with this thought but, this is not a win hire at this time for CU. the man needs at least a year off and different conference to re-establish his credentials. CU can not afford to make that gamble.

come on man. forget the name... let me tell you this... coach is fired from a mid level team in your conference for not winning and your school just fired its coach for not winning. so, your solution is to hire your conference rivals coach who got fired for not winning? tell me where that makes any sense?

but, on balance, i think i would take JT over dave logan. not that that is a great deal or anything....

You're not wrong 4db :smile2:

I'm just saying, we might hire Calhoun, who has won 7 or so games in the MWC. We might also hire a guy that has produced a ton of 7+ win seasons in the P12. I think I'd rather go with the guy that I know will win 7 in the P12.

It does send a poor message though. Not good enough for Cal? Well we here at Colorado are fine with losing seasons and not winning enough! Just please beat Sacramento State and it's all good.

Tedford had TWICE the talent at cal, a great recruiter in the dl coach and couldn't win.

If TEDFORD or CALHOUN get a sniff, bohn and the other two idiots still have no clue.

CU needs a guy who will attract recruits, not another I-25 hire. Calhoun won't get the BCS recruits in here, he oor tedofrd would show everyone how cheap cu is and they will never make a commitment to football.

This. He's not a top choice, but dismissing him as complete garbage is the wrong move. He had 9 winning seasons in 11 years at a Pac school that was as bad off, or worse off, than CU when he took over.

Per Ringo, Tedford has no interest in the CU gig. Views it as being too difficult for numerous reasons.
