The more I look at it (admittedly from very long distance right now) the more impressed I am with Tad's ability to make all the right moves.

On one hand you have Chen. Lot's of people questioned him getting a roster spot when he transfered in. The result has been a guy who is a defensive wokhorse willing to do all the dirty work without caring about the glory. With only one ball on the floor and the offensive skills that a number of Tad's guys have Chen has become the perfect compliment. Yes he can slip open for a quick layup when teams forget about him, he can even drop a decent jumpshot when needed, but his game is to make the other four guys on the floor better.

The other hand is Stalzer who again many considered an afterthought and questioned if his scholly shouldn't have been saved for somebody else. The result has been a freshman who has icewater in his veins and again is one of those guys who makes his entire team better. In the past couple years one problem this team has had has been a tendency to lose composure on the floor and give up some big runs to the opponent before getting their heads back together. In these runs the offense has become scattered with individuals trying to do to much of things they can't do against defenses aimed at stopping what they are trying to do. Stalzer may never be a star, we don't need him to be. I do see a potential very soon for him to be a guy who can come in in spurts and help the team regain composure and get back on track quickly as well as a guy who can come in and help get our key players back into the groove when needed.

I will be the first to admit that I didn't understand why Chen was on this team last year and didn't think he would ever play here if he couldn't get on the court at DU. But Tad was genius with Chen, he made a deal with Chen on a year to year scholarship basis, so he didn't tie up one of those valuable scholarships if he didn't perform but still gave Chen a chance. This gave Tad the flexibility to still go out and recruit that scholarship while giving Chen motivation that turned into a starting spot.

Stalzer looks great, he looked his best against Air Force on Sunday night and is knocking down the 3 when the ball is swung to him and he is open. He is a good ball handler, plays good D and doesn't get flustered. You can tell this kid is used to playing at a high level in high school. He is everything you want in a PG, he knows his place and his game. I would look for him to get some more minutes as the season goes on. He played 12 against AF, but it felt like a lot more.

Tad's ability to formulate a team is amazing. With only 1 obvious spot opening up next year (Chen) and 3 guys incoming how Tad is going to make this works is anybody's guess, but I can't wait to find out.

Does Chen remain a starter all season? Seems like he'd be a great sixth man.

Unless Adams overtakes him, yes. The only guy on the bench right now who's worthy of starting is XJ, and I'm hesitant to take his versatility off of the bench.

my hoping is that Stalzer turns into the next Aaron Craft, high hopes but i think its attainable

Chen could end up as one of those guys who starts but plays less minutes than the guy coming off the bench. George Karl has done this with guys for years.

It isn't about having the best five players on the floor, it is about having the best team on the floor. Having XJ and Adams available off the bench means that you have offense available. Having Chen with the starters means that more opportunities offensively are available for the guys with the offensive skills and we have more firepower coming off the bench.
