The sooner Bruce Benson is done as the president, the better. Interjecting a rehearsed statement via speakerphone pretty much says it all. The guy does not and never will care about football.

Bruce Benson has done a lot to create a positive legacy, but CU athletics is a glaring failure of leadership.

So is the conventional wisdom that this is Benson last academic year as president?

I was talking to a friend who used to be a professor at UT and when I mentioned Benson had to go she was stupefied. She said "He's only the guy raising all the money for CU!" I said true, but he's completely ignoring athletics which didn't seem to register. I think the vast majority of faculty and the general public really could care less about CU athletics. We are the vocal minority and I don't expect Benson will be going anyplace else.

Careful what you wish for. If most of the Regents, for instance, do not consider the AD a high priority, we could get another Betsy Hoffman.

On the plus side, Betsy Hoffman's testimony in which she was defending football players calling Katie Hnida a "****" was one of the highlights of the year. Apparently it comes from Shakespeare, and was used as a term of endearment! And she would know, she was a scholar!

That's the conventional wisdom. 5-year term is up and he's going out with is 75th birthday in July.

But conventional wisdom is that conventional wisdom is only right about 50% of the time. :wink2:

So who the **** knows something?

When you've got YOUR name on a CU building, cuz you gave $20 mill to build it, then you can criticize Benson.

I'm feeling more hopeful for the opinion of the regents - we had some nice responses to the letter writing campaign

It was Chaucer, not the Bard.

Man it feels good to finally use that Arts & Science degree.
