AD: "At Southern Miss we expect to compete hard and succeed both in the classroom and on the field."

The AD: I don't like him!

Cant imagine how bad of a desk Ellis Johnson had to sit behind this past season.

I bet the coach had to deliver water with a pail and a ladle, too.

I never was in his corner...The no experience was killing me and then when he pulled in eb for assistant I knew we were destined for the basement

Would you have been fully in his corner if he dropped an 0-12 in his 1st year?

I would have been. I didn't stop supporting Hawkins after the 1-10 opening year. Recruiting looked good. And he followed it up with a decent season the next year.

I'll never think Hawkins was going to be the right long-term guy for CU, but that was also very close to being very different. That damn miracle field goal by Nebraska that kept us out of a bowl in 2008 is when it started to unravel. Hawkins' recruiting strategy was completely reliant on getting December visits during bowl practices.

Hawkins went 2-10 his first year.

An 0-fer is hard to recover from.

Yeah. Looking back, though, I don't think I would have given up after 1. Of course, I never thought I'd be on the side of terminating a coach after 2. I guess you never know until you go through it.
