Should any assistants be retained?

I post this at the risk of being banned or put to death, but the next HC will have to assemble a staff. There's a good chance he'll bring his whole staff from the other place, but that doesn't always happen. (For example when the jilted school promotes the HC from within, lots of time the staff stays in place.)

So would you guys throw ALL of these guys in the trash heap? Personally I'm still impressed with Kennedy and Marshall, mainly based on their past accomplishments. (BTW, I doubt either of them will have any trouble finding other employment.)

Bieniemy - OC/RB
Scherer - AHC / QB
Cabral - Running Game / LB
Marshall - OL
Tuiasosopo - DL
Brown - DC / Secondary
Brookhart - Passing game/TE/Special Teams
Kennedy - WR
McGhee - DL

I like Kanavis but that decision needs to be entirely up to the new coach. We have had enough of trying to keep this guy or that guy or medling with the program.

Put the coach in charge, give him the resources, hold him responsible.

I leave that up to the new coach.

:yeahthat:

Personally, Tui would be my first choice to keep. But I'm not sure he was planning to stay even without the coaching change. I wouldn't mind seeing McGhee or Cabral stay, but with the atmosphere that has developed with the faction of ex-buffs, I'm not sure keeping any of the ex-buffs on staff would work right now...

Of course the new coach makes that call although I think Bohn may want to at least have his opinions heard or provide a final approval to avoid what happened with our last coach :)

I am inclined to say if it were me, I'd start all over. The only thing is there may be some value to having 1 or 2 stay because of their knowledge of their current players, the players being recruited and how to get stuff done at CU.

Anyone who might be too bitter, like EB needs to go for sure though.

Frankly, after the way these former players have acted in the past 48 hours, I wouldn't have any problem with the next head coach ditching everything and everyone.

Great point. There's so much bad blood going on right now, all of these coaches might say no thanks.

Plus it's a touchy situation with their severence pay, which is completely up to the discretion of the University. Who knows whether they'll be treated well enough to WANT to come back. (It would be in CU's interest to treat them well, with at least a few months severence.)

I don't have a problem with any of them as position coaches, Embree included. I was disappointed in the O Line play in the beginning, but it got better. The staff as a whole did not get the players to preform on the field that doesn't mean that individually they are not qualified. It is likely the new HC will keep a few of the position coaches. It is more important that the new HC, OC and DC set a direction and game plans to produce results on the field.

Name one unit that even met (much less exceeded) expectations. Name one unit that was impressive at any point this season.
QB - no
Receivers - hell no
o line - no
d line - no
lb - way hell no
d backs - uh, no
kick return/coverage - no/no

There were some good players, but that because of their skill, NOT their coaching. Even our good players were out of position most of the time or couldn't tackle of they were.

I just didn't see a lot of talent at many positions this year. Where there was talent, it was often very young. That's the epitaph for this staff: "While it's true you didn't inherit much talent, you didn't make the most of what you had."

Still, I picked Kennedy because I thought he did a fair amount with very young players and NO breakaway speed. I picked Marshall because I saw the unit get better as the year went on. Plus if you look at that OL, do you see any future NFL guys? I do not, at all. Well maybe Nembot but he has so far to go.

Bisonic, I agree with the Kennedy pick. There were no expectations there with Richardson out and the freshmen greyshirting. I'd be fine with Tui, too. But yes, let the coach choose.

I like Kanavis, I don't know him personally or how good of a coach he is. I do know he can recruit and has his foot in the door in htown. Those boys down that way are big, strong, and fast. I found out the hard way, it's great recruiting ground, a&m can't get everybody.

As much as I love Carbal, it's time to clean house completely. It's time for new blood and it's time to look forward instead of relying on our past.

Embree assembled a staff that had a lot of good position coaches. The issues were at the coordination and CEO level. If the new coach wants to talk to guys like Tui and Kennedy, that's his choice. I'll support it either way. I can see both sides of that (continuity vs clean break).
