Colorado reportedly reaches out to Utah State's Gary Andersen

Would be cautiously optimistic. But he would assistants with BCS experience for recruiting.

fify, I think that's what you meant. Anyway, that's the thing that jumps out to me the most is his lack of experience at a big-time program. And no, Utah doesn't count. That, plus he's had just 1 good year at Utah State.

I was advocating for Sonny Dykes but if you compare LT's results to USU's results, it appears that USU under Andersen has done a better job of taking care of opponents. USU also only gave up more than 40 points but that was against LT while the others were between 3 to 27 points.

Utah State's two losses were 6-3 to BYU and 16-14 at Wisconsin.

The Utah State QB threw for just over 3,000 yards with a 27-9 TD-INT ratio and the upcoming game is against a lifeless Idaho squad so I believe that the QB will go over 30 TDs for the season and the USU RB has rushed for over 1,200 yards.

Given that the WAC is on ESPN, which USU games can be rewatched on WatchESPN?

Thanks, that is what I meant. Cannot emphasize the recruiting angle enough with the next coaching hire and if you look at Andersen's current staff at Utah State, not much juice there.

Utah State didn't lay down and let OU run over them in Norman in 2010: http://espn.go.com/ncf/recap?id=302470201
Same for @Auburn last season: http://espn.go.com/ncf/recap?id=312460002

Last time Utah State got blown out of a game was 2010...when was the last time CU didn't get blown out in a few games in a season?

We need to win some games. We are 7 years into a rebuild. Other schools have two failures and two failed promises to point out to recruits. I care more about the coaching angle.

Not overwelmed by Andersen...but not the worst possible canidate. IF he is the choice.....i could live with the hire. Just concerned about what kind of staff he could put together.

While I do like this guy, he would be my fourth or fifth choice. DeRuyter/Malzahn etc for the name recognition and I think they are probably just as good. Look at the defensive turnarounds DeRuyter has engineered. If we really are throwing out 2.5 mil, I think we can get a bigger fish

Want. Really Bad. I think he is a huge rising star, and has the experience and credentials to back it up.

If i had to choose between a great recruiter and a rock solid coach, i'll take the rock solid coach. I think that as you start winning the recruits will come, espeically in-state recruits.

I don't think CU could go wrong with any of the guys on the list of: Anderson, DeRuyter, Malzahn, Dykes, the San Jose guy and maybe a couple of other guys.

It just blows my mind that CU hired a head coach and an OC that had zero credentials and zero interest from any other school in the country.

I really like Andersen - He seems to get a lot out of his guys. He's one of my favorites along with DeRuyter.

They need to save the $2.5M for a big name (i.e. Leech, Rodriguez). If we hire Andersen or DeReuyter, should be $1.75-$2.0M and spend extra on great coordinators.

Pay what the market will bear, not what you can afford.

I'd be wary of a coach that didn't require us to over pay him a bit. Who the hell wants to coach here at market rate?

I don't have a lot of faith here. Embree would have accepted a contract with a $1 buyout. We essentially threw away $2M.

Holy Buff.... u sound more like my jewish mother, who is concerned about everything....

Let the coach be concerned about his assistants..... we can NOT be ANY worse....

HolyBuff should share that faith.... maybe even lead it.

How did Andersen engineer this turnaround? Well, he appears to be a hell of a pure coach, for starters. But he also was ranked as Rivals #1 Recruiter in Non-BCS conferences in 2005. He's doing it in living rooms as much as on whiteboards. He gets the scraps of recruiting and that forces him to be elite at evaluation. And he's relentless in getting their signature.

Apparently he may not be such a bad recruiter.

I'm not sure that DeRuyter and Malzahn have that much name recognition either. I really don't see them as having much more than Andersen...

Malzahn is a pretty national name. Plus he can point to coaching Cam Newton and engineering the offense with Darren McFadden at Arkansas (#2 in Heisman). That's instant credibility for recruits

Given what has happened with Gene Chizik, I don't think coaching Cam Newton is really a positive claim. It looks more like, I got lucky and was in the right place at the right time.
