When USC hired Pete Carroll

Carroll was their fourth choice. Bellotti, Erickson and Mike Riley turned them down before they got Carroll.

Stitt won't be named the head coach........ why do people love to resort to panic?

Step 1: go after Charlie Strong
Step 2: go after Al Golden
Step 3: ????????
Step 4: PANIC HIRE BOB SITT

Yeah, no time to panic. If we really get in dire straits we could always just rehire Embree for a season, fire him next year and try again.

anyway, playing devil's advocate to the Carroll thing.....

Nebaska tried to hire about a thousand people before Bill Callahan.....but those morons loved it too for a while (he invented the forward pass)......they deny it now.

so, i'm iffy on the 5th choice hire is the best principle.

I don't see how it's bad that we apparently went after Charlie Strong and/or Al Golden. Unlikely we get them, but I'm glad we apparently tried. From there, who's to say that the next guys on our list have said no?

We actually went after Golden? Heard his name pop up a time or two, but was not aware that we actually made a run at him.

shrug, seemed like he was the flavor of the day a couple days ago. Do we really know for sure anyone that we've gone after?

And there lies the question, who has CU talked to about the position. Keep hearing other schools talking with and hiring new coaches, but nothing from CU....... starting to get a little worried

Auburn, Arkansas and many others have been searching longer than CU has. I agree we need to name one soon, but it's not time to panic. There has only been 2 hires out of like 17 openings so far.

Going about this quietly is the way to do this

we have to find the right fit. i have a hard time believing that a guy who would want to coach at auburn would also be considering CU and so forth.

it is discouraging right now but there are still lots of quality coaches out there. these guys have to get this hire right. we're desperate for a turnaround.

Very true, I am kinda of a worry wart and very impatient..... just wish that they would announce someone they have/or plan on interviewing. Seeing what direction they are going, a current HC or coordinator

Yeah. Coaching searches are inexact. Sometimes you end up in the fortunate situation of missing out on the big names or hot names and having to settle on a guy who was better anyway.

Truth is that everyone on this level is a good football coach. And half the coaches on this level lose their games every week. Got to find the right fit for CU who can buck the average.

I really don't think it should be that difficult to find a guy who can at least get us back to being a bowl team. How many Pac schools have won that conference and also been towards the bottom of it all within the last 20 years?
